Linking to an Amazon category page?

Anybody ever tracked it to see if you get the referral?

It seems to generate the affiliate ID for it, but it's not the same as linking directly to a product, when you click on the link the affiliate ID doesn't show up.

Thanks

Good question. I just created a link to a category and tested it. My affiliate ID was not in the url either.

Another issue I found lately. You have the ability to create affiliate links to products that are listed on Amazon.com but only sold through external websites. I contacted support to see if affiliates actually make commissions if people purchase the items through our affiliate links to external website product listings on Amazon.com

    The Answer: NO

Really? I remember linking to a few, I always assumed it would be a referral.

      Thanks

I know this thread is kinda old but I finally fiqured out how to link to a category, and thought I should post the response from Amazon.

Here's what I got back from emailing them:

Thank you for your question about items listed on Amazon.com that are sold through external websites.

We will not be able to pay advertising fees for orders completed on external websites. Only qualified orders that are completed on Amazon.com will earn advertising fees. Any items listed on the Amazon website where a customer does not need to visit another website to place an order will qualify for Associates advertising fees (commissions).

For your reference, the examples you included are all items that would go through the Amazon check-out:

Sold by Paul's TV and Fulfilled by Amazon
      Available from these sellers
Ships from and sold by Audio Video Communication Store

Only items listed in the section or an Ad that states, "Product Ads from External Websites," would not be an eligible click-through for earning Advertising fees.

      ----

And as for linking to categories go to the tab - Links & Banners. Click "Link to Any Page", then "Link to Search Results".

And enter for example "Electronics", and a general search term like "plasma tv" and it will carry your affiliate ID. If you try to create it from the page itself it generates the ID, but doesn't show up in your browser when you click on it so I wasn't certain.

I used to link to category pages at Amazon and I was getting commissions. Not sure if it's working now though. Are you creating the links to the pages through the get links tab within your acc?

it has worked for me in the past. Someone that was visiting wanted a book from Amazon, so I kindly grabbed the link for them. The only hard cover book I have ever sold. But if you have doubts, have someone make a test purchase.
