Oh my, is this really the beginning of the end

Oh my, is this really the beginning of the end . . .

Is this going to shake up the Internet Marketing World.

For one reason or another, looks like many folk are jumping off the Facebook bankwagon. I guess they are not getting the results they had expected or maybe its not what it is cracked up to be.

Where are all these folk going ??? I don't know, wish I did.

Maybe Google will tell me.

    BS.

Facebook and any other PPC network is just as good as it always has been. You just gotta know how to use it.

But if ya really think its failing, why dont you try and go after some 2nd tier ppc engines like Stumble Upon of Ask.

    But hey, ummm... GET EM?!

        Heya Mike, how you doin'?

Personally I see less and less people in Facebook, maybe it's just a "Portuguese thingy"

But there was a report a couple days/weeks ago showing some (big??) traffic losses in some countries. If we think about it, it makes sense: people are getting use to it, and it comes the time of saturation.

        Interesting times ahead.

They just did go public with that amount didn't they? That's pretty crazy.. It was some college student or something like that who started it, right?

They expected too much from Facebook. It didn't work out. You should know 1) how to get traffic from Facebook and 2) what to do with this traffic.

The initial fascination with Facebook (and Twitter) was the ability to connect with anyone....anywhere...any time.

Now many folks are realizing they don't want to connect with "everyone" - they aren't interested in "everyone" - and they are pulling back into groups that are family/friends or people who share the same interests. Facebook is becoming "niche book" and I think the trend will continue.

I quit visiting Facebook after my Farmtown crops all went bad one weekend. That game had me by the short hairs for sure. The only way I could stop myself from playing it was to delete my FB account. How that plays into this conversation I have no idea. I have never even considered using FB for marketing however. It just seemed to Myspacey to do so.

I just don't think FB was ever a great place to find people to market to.

I never had any success anyways. To me it always lacked the commercial activity that profitable IM requires...

        It's the great internet pendulum.

It swings one way then it swings the other then it swings back then it swings another. Bigger and bigger ad groups will buy more and more ppc and cpm oversaturating the prices and driving the market prices of keywords through the roof. Facebook advertising will be the same saturated under performing monstrosity that is Adwords

        Spot on !

        I'm doing just that.

With regards to FB PPC, I decided not to jump in because of the
        narrow commercial-intend traffic in there.

Probably body-building and dating offers would work with FB PPC.

      Now THAT is funny.

Considering when you Google "Matt LaClear" there are quite a few mentions of you as a myspace spammer.
You mean that one weekend I posted something 5 years ago regarding Myspace? You take one instance from 5 years ago and think what you just posted is relevant? Why not let Warriors know the real reason you posted that?

I would spend time looking up your name on Google but...

Edit: Quite a few? It was one post on one marketing forum in which I offered to help a group of people on Myspace marketing. At the time I was building 3k new list subscribers a week. So what you said was a lie in order to make myself look bad to Warriors. So I cannot wait to hear your reasoning for lying on an open forum like you just did.

Many people go about promoting on Facebook the wrong way. It should be used to build customer loyalty and sales over the long haul, not just for a quick buck.

They will build a fan page and blast promotions in nearly every post and wonder why their page won't go viral and why no one will buy from them.

agreeeeeeeed. I guess some people have success with using facebook but unless you make a fan page that can just draw millions of people and is product based (like victoria secret), I doubt it can make people money quickly or as steadily as they claim it does.

Facebook is a social network and it functions best when you use it for its intended purpose. It may not make direct sales but you can definitely use it gain other values like branding/loyalty.

People log on to Facebook to look at pictures, talk to friends, and socialize. People do not log onto Facebook to buy things or snoop around advertisements. That has always been my take on why using Facebook as a marketing tool is a rough method.

I know it does work in many cases. But, I think that this late in the game, you are more likely to lose money than make money.

      Jim,

I would say Twitter is good as a part of a set of action plans. (Free Methods)

Why not combine whatever social media together to funnel traffic to offers and list building.

I bet a lot of people know this already but let me highlight for the benefit of newcomers to IM.

      Twitter + FB + EZA + Web 2.0 + Google + YouTube + RSS + Social Bookmark + Forums + Groups => powerful organic IM tactic

Let's translate this formula into action in Steps:
      1. Select an offer to promote or whatever goals
      2. Design and write copy for the landing page
      3. Make a Video and embed in the same page
      4. Ping for RSS and SE to pick-up
      5. Get the page indexed by G & other SEs
      6. Submit to EZA & other directories
      7. Let EZA and Directories TWEET & email to subscribers
      8. Announce to FB friends
      9. Promote in Stumble Upon
      10. Spark interest in Yahoo Groups & Forums

Even though it looks massive but will only take 2 or 3 days focused
for an Offer or for whatever objectives of the landing page. Results
may start trickling in after 4 or 5 days onwards. Then the flood.

Done this and seen the results. More organic in building back-links, PR,
traffic and credibility ( branding to some ).

Prefer it that way than spamming those spaces with 50 Articles, 50
      Videos and 500 Forum Profiles.

Of course, the fastest route is still PPC & PPV in targeting people with
      commercial intend.

Twitter seems to be more professional than Facebook, especially for marketers. But Facebook will not die. It is now a billion dollar business and I'm pretty sure they will come up with something in the recent future to stay in the game.

In India business owners have just started knowing the value of Social Media Marketing (60% are aware, rest are not). And We have the population to keep facebook growing.

I never really thought that facebook ad traffic would ever be as good as traffic from search PPC, be it adwords, yahoo/bing or any other SE.

people go to facebook to socialize, have fun not to find what to buy, while they go to the SEs for the sole reason of FINDING YOUR SITE. they go their not to stay but be redirected to a site. in contrast, they go to facebook to stay their. You're taking them away from having fun and trying to get them into buy mode.

of course people are making a killing with facebook ads, but that doesn't mean everyone can. There is a learning curve to facebook just as there is to other PPC methods and I think its way easier to sell to someone who is already in buy mode rather than sell to someone who is in "lets see what my friends are up to" mode...
