How do Clickbank refunds work for affiliates after payout?

4 replies
Hey guys,

How would a refund work in the following scenario;

Affiliate drives traffic to vendor sales page
Visitors buy vendor item for $40, affiliate gets $20
Affiliate chooses to be paid the $20
Visitor now decides to refund the product

Is the affiliate's account debited $20, making their balance -$20 while the other $20 comes from the vendor, or does the vendor pay the entire $40 amount?

    I could be wrong but I always thought that had to do with the Threshold column in the stats. It implied that they held certain funds. I could be wrong though...

    Im not sure what happens if you have already withdrawn the money from your click-bank account.

    However if you still have the money in your click-bank account, and the customer refunds the product, you lose your affiliate commission.

    Yes.

    Except that the affiliate's account is unlikely to be on $0, so he'll typically be in the red for less than that.

    But you can have a negative balance, as an affiliate, at least in theory. ClickBank will reclaim it from your next earnings. If there are no "next earnings" they'll stand the loss: there aren't circumstances (apart from things like "deliberate fraud", I don't doubt) under which an affiliate would ever have to send money back to them.

    No. The vendor never has to refund more than his own net share of the earnings (from the specific sale refunded) after the deduction of ClickBank costs and the division with the affiliate.

      Awesome. Thanks for that. Was just a random thought that popped into my head while watching Seinfeld lol.
