PPC is all about precise targeting, so I imagine bidding on keywords with the word 'buy' or keywords including brand names (when allowed) are the most effective keywords to choose. I've also bid on competitor domain names with high success.
I find that a single keyword performs its best when it's in its own Ad Group. This keeps the CTR of your keyword from mixing with the CTR from other keywords.
