Not that long time ago i've started my own Japanese tea shop and now i'm trying to push it from just addition to hobby to a full time job. I know it will take a while, but i do enjoy it.

Well, here is actual question. I don't have a lot of money for marketing and i thought affiliate system would be great addition in promoting. But i really don't know what i have to offer for tea blog owners or other related resources so that they would be interested. Is about 15% from sale not too low? Can't go much higher anyway.

What is usual referral percentage for food related products?

Maybe someone here would be interested?

Affiliate system is not yet ready, but Opencart team probably will release soon an update script. New stable version with affiliate system is already out, i just can't upgrade yet

15% is decent for a physical product, but you may want to consider creating some digital content as well (make your own tea eBook type stuff) and give affiliates 50% for that.. good luck!

Also, consider giving people a higher percentage for their first 30-60 days as an incentive; also, take your own margin into consideration here and assume you'll get a lot of repeat business - don't be afraid to give away a lot to the bigger affiliates, it will pay off in the long run. You can also go on the popular affiliate product sites and see how much other tea products are giving away, and beat them by a few percent.

That's a good point, even if i earn almost nothing from sale i do get a customer, who most likely will return or tell friends. So far, in those several month i'm working, more than half customers bought twice or more times.

I will remember idea about my own book, now i'm not ready yet to write it. Still an apprentice of a local tea shop owner

For retail products, 15% is fairly competitive. Not sure it's different for tea products, but that's good in general.

To offer more incentive, you can offer performance-based tiered commission rates (e.g. <$1K/mo, 10%, $1-2.5K, 15%, etc.).

You can also offer monthly spiffs to push specific products and keep affiliates constantly engaged and updating their campaigns.
