Aweber Experts - Using Segments

I need some tips from those who have mastered the Aweber platform:

I have 20 different aweber accounts and don't have autoresponder sequences for these because they're not meant for that type of setup.

My goal would be to have some type of automated followup based on solely those who clicked on a link in my follow up email messages. I know I can do this manually by creating a segment then just following up to those folks but its just way too time consuming.

I assume there is a way to do so but I haven't put 2 and 2 together yet. Someone please guide me. Thanks.

I don't believe you can do this automatically with Aweber. You can have users tagged by things they click on or website pages they visit but still then you can only create segments of those lists and send different broadcast messages to those people - I don't believe you can have different auto-responder sequences for different segments. This is always something I have felt Aweber should add but don't think they have yet.

If you need this kind of functionality then a service like Infusionsoft would probably be more suited to you - more expensive as well but you get what you pay for.

I don't think that is possible in Aweber... although it is possible with Imnica...

I thought there was a way to segment by actions. Maybe not. I thought you could automatically place someone onto a new list and unsub them from the old list by an action they take. Such as when someone buys something from you and they are removed from your prospect list and added to your buyers list.

Have you asked for help with this from aWeber support? They are usually pretty good at solving stuff like this and then you'd have it from the horses mouth so to speak.

Good luck and let us know what you find out, ok?

That much is possible... but not what he is asking...

To clear it up some, I can explain how Imnica does this...

You set up an autoresponder (follow up message, whatever you wanna call it) and you would set the delivery action to "link click, message opened, campaign opened, etc)

I haven't used Aweber in awhile but I don't think this is possible w/o going the long route you mentioned in the OP.

Thanks guys. It looks like you are all correct---this is not a feasible action with AWeber. Why? Doesn't make sense to me either.

I used to use Infusionsoft and segmenting your lists by
subscriber actions is a breeze by using tagging.

Unfortunately, with AWeber, automatic list segmentation
for people who click on links is not currently possible.

I use a solution that allows me to easily segment my lists
based upon subscriber behavior - including those who click
          on links.

ActiveCampaign and Interspire can do this easily.

For example if someone clicks on a link they can be automatically
sent a different campaign, added (or removed) from a particular
sub-list, or even update their subscriber info in the background.

Fine list segmentation is the key to effective list management
          and boosting response.

          Dedicated to mutual success,

          Shaun

            Hi Shaun,

Just curious, why don't you use Infusionsoft anymore? Their tagging seems very elegant... We started to use them but had so much difficulties getting the cart up and going in a timely fashion that we bailed on them and moved to PremiumWebCart. I love PremiumWebCart's product, but we lost that integrated emailer and tagging and are still using Aweber instead...

I too, like others above, am actually pretty disappointed with Aweber. Not because it doesn't do a good job at what it does, but because I've used it for years and they have made no effort to expand its capabilities or enhance it in any way. It has been stagnant from a features perspective for years and advanced tagging and/or segmentation could easily be implemented yet they've never even tried...

You can do some automation within Aweber but it is very limited. Goto the List - Automation menu. What you can do is automatically add users to multiple lists or delete from one list when added to another, etc...

Mainly this is useful just for simple segmenting like removing someone from your "just interested" list when they join your "buyers" list. You can get complex with this but it is not as elegant as Infusionsoft.

Ok, if anyone wants to do this in aWeber, here is how to do it. When someone buys a product from you, send them to another opt in page and tell them that you want to be certain that they want to receive emails from you. They have to opt in to get the product they ordered. Now you set it up in aWeber so when they subscribe to this "buyers" list it automatically unsubscribes them from the other list.

I hope I've explained that so it can be understood. If not, PM me and I'll try to help further. ok?

Yes, you can do this very element method via their automation as I mentioned earlier in the thread, but this is hardly advanced segmenting. And there is no way to do conditional branching in your AR with Aweber.

A conditional branch might be something like "only send this email to those that have bought from our VIP coaching product line" or "only offer this discounted offer to those that have not yet purchased", etc... You can use automation in Aweber to create basic segmented duplicate lists, but there's no branching logic that can handle this in an automated fashion within your Autoresponder.

It also becomes very tedious to maintain and can easily create a web of confusion when you have several lists, etc... not to mention that you are duplicating people on various lists rather than elegantly "tagging" them via a capable autoresponder/CRM product. I'm also not 100% sure how Aweber pricing handles that. If you have a list of 1000 'unique' emails, but because you're using automation and multiple lists actually have 2500 total emails across 12 lists - I'm not sure what number you're charged on...

In fact, we just today "bit the bullet" and are moving to InfusionSoft. I've been trying to force this level of integration with PremiumWebCart/Aweber, etc... but ultimately it really comes down to one thing:

Do you want an integrated CRM/Autoresponder/Shopping cart or do you want to piecemeal solutions together?

Once your business grows to a certain level, the integration and the benefits that advanced tagging and segmenting offer as well CRM become critical in order to maximize your visitor value. And that is the decision that we have just come to - that without that we're leaving too much money on the table trying to work within a limiting collection of semi-capable systems rather than a product that was designed to be integrated from the beginning.

InfusionSoft is not for everyone at $299 a month and a $2000 startup fee, but after your business hits a certain level systems, automation and integration become more and more crucial. We found that the $299 a month was only about $50 more than we were paying for a collection of solutions anyway so that wasn't much of a factor in the decision.

Ya this is probably the best advice, but only for buyers. I don't think there is a way to automatically segment them and tag them to a different follow up just if they clicked a link in your email. You would need some sort of tagging feature or if/then sequence and you can't do that in aWeber

      Hi Yul,

Yezzar.com can also do what you are looking for. To make sure we are on the same page which is to send an email to people that didn't open one of the email, or emails you send.

Infusionsoft can do what you want but not Aweber. so either you change your autoresponder or do it manually for each segment.

If anyone is still interested in having someone moved to a new aweber list when a link is clicked, hit me up... I wrote a script to do it using the API

I also wrote aweber scripts to one-click backup ALL of your lists, as well as automatically move people to another list once they reach end of follow ups, etc...

As many people have said, you CAN NOT segment your list on aweber by clicking a link, that functionality I have seen it just in infusion, what you can do in order to segment your list is to send your subscribes with a page with different offers so they sign in to the offer they are interested the mos, obviously each one of this offers will be delivered once they confirm their email on the auto responder you have previously set up.
