Which would you rather be? a franchisee, or a franchisor?

Hello to all warrior members,

I would just like to to hear your opinion. Operating one of the free stores, is kind of like being a franchisee, but focusing on building a network of people who buy the products, do the business or get free stores is kind of like being a franchisor. Which would you rather be? A franchisee, or a franchisor?

    Franchiser. No doubt. Easy Answer.

A 'franchiser' or affiliate program is generally in a much better position than 99% of its affiliates

        Totally agree.

Being a franchisee is just like buying a job.

Being a franchisor is being a business owner and entrepreneur.

I agree with all the above posts, but they both do have their own merits.

          Pros

          Franchiser-
          • You are at the top of the food chain
          • Ability to sell off the brand as a whole if you chose to
          • Unlimited scaling availability
          • Set your own price point
          Franchisee-
          • You are walking into a proven system
          • Branded right out of the gate
          • You know exactly what your profit rates are to start
          • Exact blueprint of what to do
          Cons-

          Franchiser-
          • HUGE risk on a non proven business
          • Unbranded to start
          • A new business usually takes 4x the amount to start than anticipated
          Franchisee-
          • Never TRULY your own boss
          • A % of your revenue will always go to someone else
          • Selling your business you don't necessarily get to do
          • You now not only have a boss, but employees as well
          -Shawn

I'd love to choose franchisor. For instance, creation of a chain of pizza/wings/pasta etc.-type family-oriented restaurant. I've always been able to be very creative with normal, every-day foods and put my own ideas to work. A franchise would stifle my abilities and would make me very unhappy.

A lot depends on whether you like to follow rules or make your own. My preference would be the rule maker with food (and a few other, different things.)

Primarily, your interests and abilities would determine which way to go, not which way you want.

          Agreed.

Most people here on this forum are here to change their lives, they're here to take CONTROL of their lives.

IM is the ultimate 'job' - you set your own rules and live your own way.

IMO, If you're answer is 'franchisee' you are probably less likely to go full time in IM, your mentality would keep you in a 9x5

Thanks Dave for your opinion. Most importantly, we must take CONTROL of our lives and set by our own rules and own way, flexible hours and much freedom.

Yes, it is a matter of choice. I think most people would prefer for the better choice.

I'd say franchiser, easily. You can make a lot more money that way.

Definetely franchisor, I like the idea of sitting back collecting royalty checks and not have to run the business.
