PPC Question: How do You Track Affiliate Keywords

5 replies
Does anyone have any tips on how to track what PPC (Google AdWords) keywords that brings in the sales as a Clickbank Affiliate.

I would assume that if I add 100 keywords to a campaign some of the keywords wil give more sales than others.

Is it possible to track what keywords brings in the cheddar and what keywords just take my money away?

    Hi,

    Clickbank uses the TID variable for tracking:
    For more info check this: FAQ Hoplink - ClickBank

    That's it

      With the TID I would have to set up a copy of my landing page for each keyword, and then set up one different adwords campaign for each keyword as well, with different TID's?

      Or am I missing something here?

        You can use clickbank tracking like this:

        Add a variable to your links:
        yoursite.com/landingpage.php?w={keyword} (the keyword searched for will automagically be inserted by Google)

        In your Landing (review) page html code at the top you put this code:

        <?php
        $page = $_GET['w'];
        ?>

        Now in your clickbank hop link for the TID you do this:

        yourhoplink.com/?tid=<?php echo "$page"; ?>

        You can set it up quickly on a different page and run a test to make sure it works...

        Go all the way to the order page and make sure your 'nickname.tid' appears at the botom and you are all set.

        Then configure your actual pages once you are confident everything is working and test them all.

        There are a few ways to do this with php script, this is just one variation.

        You can also use free tracking software like Tracking202 (service) or Prosper202 (self hosted) to track conversions to the keyword level. You can track which ads are converting as well.

        If you have a budget, I would recommend Affiliate Prophet. Not only does it track to the keyword level, but it will predict which keywords will convert with minimal clicks, saving your advertising dollars for ads instead of too much testing.

        There are several tracking threads with good information, you may want to do a search.

        Good luck
