What services would suit my skills?

Hi guys,

I'm very excited about my future in making money online since finding this site. But right now, I need to make some quick cash. Many people advise that the best thing I could do to earn some money asap would be to offer a service.

So I have been thinking hard about what service I should offer. I am currently studying for a PhD in Astrophysics, and have 2 degrees in physics / astrophysics and so the obvious answer would be something in that field - but I don't think anyone wants any articles writing about Astrophysics! My programming skills are only okay - nothing compared to a programmer.

I was just wondering if there was anything that jumps out as an obvious path that I haven't thought of.

Thanks guys!

    Hmm...

You seem well versed in the English language. Maybe you could be a content writer. If you have two degree's you are no stranger to research--which means you could potentially write content for any niche/topic.

Something to think about at least.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Do you have any hobbies you can expand upon to do what’s called Niche Marketing? Write articles about it and produce a site with your own products or as an Affiliate (digital reseller) for others merchant’s products. If you set up a WordPress (wordpress.com) site it’s quite simple, and you can start up with writing articles about your topic.

    Just one idea

Think about topics you may have some knowledge or interest in. Then go to a keyword ranking tool like Google's keyword tool and start investigating different keywords to determine if there is any traffic and demand for them. Based on these results, you can start to write articles and submit them to places like Ezinearticles to generate search volume. It can lead people to your website or blog.

Find a need for WordPress users and develop a small plugin (php) for it. Then sell it on here in the WSO section. But that would take time, depending on the plugin.

If that's too much and you need money fast - use craigslist or donate blood. My course in my sig takes money to purchase and setup so if you're broke that has to resolved first before you can invest. I hate being broke, for a guy there's nothing worse. It eats at your brain or something.

Your gonna have to rely on something else, I tend to agree that not many people would buy something on Astrophysics.

Therefore, what are some of your other skills? What hobbies do you have? Is there something else that you are really good at?

Thank you for the replies guys. Food for thought.

The other thing that I am passionate about it body-building / fitness. I've been going to the gym for about 12 years and am in good shape. I just get the feeling that that market is saturated?

I'm also pretty good at writing poems. Ones that rhyme, not "feelings" poems :-) I tried putting a gig on fiverr but no bites yet. Haven't made a video or anything though to spread the word.

Thanks again for the responses guys!

Yes, there are a lot of marketers in the body-building / fitness niche. That’s because there is a loooooooot of people interested in getting fit = money $$$ in that niche. Find a Niche within this Niche (Food, nutrition… etc)
Go to Google Keyword Tool and find some good keywords and start a WordPress site, write some articles, find an Affiliate product to promote. Buy a course in Affiliate Marketing.

Tip: Mark Ling, Andrew Hansen, Edmund Loh etc are some of the serious guys I take advice from, price around 97$.

Stay away from buying for traffic to your site before you have some knowledge about it.

I don't agree that there is nothing you can do relating to Astrophysics... just nothing comes to mind.

Anyway, you do seem well-versed in the English language and writers can make a killing if they know what they're doing.

Maybe try taking some copywriting courses, get some books, and re-write some swipes? Good copywriters can charge $1000+ for a salesletter - just realize that it takes more work to learn than it seems.

Saturated markets are saturated for a reason. There's a lot of money to be made in the fitness niche still - especially if you have something unique.

      Hi Ryor,

I started writing on Fiverr about a month ago and landed a lot of work. Here's two articles I wrote on getting work from Fiverr:

6 Fiverr best practices to keep you rolling in dough

12 free ways to promote your Fiverr gigs and make more money

In my experience, video is the number one way to get gigs. Even if it's a video describing how awesome of a writer you are. As an experiment, I started an account on Fiverr with only one gig, offering to write a 250-word article for $5. The video consisted of me saying how people think that my articles are written by Jesus and how great I am. After a week, I had to suspend the gig because I was far too busy.

Another thing that's not mentioned in the above links... be oddly specific. Although more would appear to be better, not everyone wants a 450-word article. If people want an article that's only 250-words, they're not even going to ask someone that's offering 400-words. They'll just keep searching. I've heard the same for specifying which types of articles you want to write (ie. press release, blog post, SEO article, How To article). Create one gig for each, add unique videos, respond to inquiries promptly, and you'll be wishing for the days when no one was biting

There's no such thing as quick cash unless you work hard for it. You can be a writer if want or build your own website on your interest, hobbies or passion.

Why don't you take your knowledge of Astrophysics and start a blog which explains things in easy to understand terms? There's a huge market of people who are interested in science, look at magazines such as Omni and Popular Science! You could make money several ways:

Sell affiliate products from the NASA store and Think Geek.
Write a fun book on the topic which explains the concepts
Creat videos on Youtube which present physics ideas in an interesting visual way, direct these back to your site.

There's a guy on youTube who creates really cool videos demonstarting physics ideas, one of his pieces, a moire pattern optical illusion has 1,429,179 views. What would this bring in for adsense alone?

I'm looking at a couple of scripts right now. One is the $7 script. The other is RAP or Rapid Action Profits. To keep it simple, both allow users to set up affiliate programs through PayPal.

Looking at a lot of the feedback for each of these, installing the scripts appears to be a pain in the butt for lots of people. Just reading through some of the technical stuff around this makes me cringe. I'd bet you, or anyone with a knack for such stuff could do well to hang out a shingle to do this for folks. I've searched a bit and only seen one guy doing it and he charges around $50.

Maybe this is something you'd want to look into.

You have degree in physics. Do something along it.

    As an simple example,

    1. Find few subject areas related to high school physics.
    2. Create model papers (questions and answers).
    3. Join with social networks like FB, related forums and make contacts with targeted students.
    4. Give few papers away free (think in viral too- keep backlink to your site), capture their email address.
    5. Promote paid versions to list.

You can try voiced outsourcing services, inbound or outbound. Since you also write well, try web content writing. And with your few programming skills, you can try SEO webmaster or website manager (as this job does not really require much of a programming skill). If there's anything you know nothing about while performing your task, Google comes to rescue if you call him. Hahaha
