Website Construction Pricing

My neighbor hired me to work on a few websites for him. I have built plenty of my own websites, but I have never done so for payment. Thus, I have no experience when it comes to pricing.

One task was the remodeling of an existing company site. Basic html site. I worked off of the existing code and cleaned it up and made it look nicer.

The second task, he wants me to build a web store (no checkout) where he has the ability to add new stock. I'm just going to use wordpress and add an inventory/store plugin.

I'm trying to come up with a fair price, given that he is my neighbor, but then I do love money...

For anyone with experience, what rates do you normally charge for tasks like what I'm doing?

yep 500 is a pretty fair price... if you do high quality work that is

  • I would charge him either zero, or well enough to cover both my time AND the cost of completely outsourcing the job elsewhere if I wasn't capable of completing it to his spec. In fact, I might outsource it in parallel, just in case

Working with neighbours/friends/family can be precarious - my advice is do it for free, rather than for too little. That way you're in control, and if it doesn't work out, it was a favour, right?

If you go down the route of charging him say 30% of normal rates (let's say $200 instead of $600 someone charges elsewhere), do you think he'd appreciate that he got a $400 discount if the site doesn't end up meeting his requirements? (hint: answer is "No")

    Hi,
It depends on website. Every website keeps its worth different from any other one. Most of the website constructor charge accordingly but someone have fixed charges for it. Can you share the name and registration authentication to me? I can tell you after focusing on it.

The company I work for does $500 for WordPress sites, from custom themes, setup, support, and training.

I was doing some smaller sites for $200 before Christmas (for some quick cash).

And I generally charge $20 hourly for WordPress design and setup, and $50/hour if I have to code anything by hand.

Don't short change yourself, as there are many people that I'm sure know less and are charging more. Make it worth your time, as working on these sites takes away from other projects that will generate income.
