How many hosting accounts do you have and what's the best value.

I currently have 12 active sites, all on the same hostmonster hosting account.

Should I be using different hosting accounts, and link my relevant sites together?

I have two hosting accounts. My first account has about 25 domains.

My second one has 1 domain. When the 2nd hosting gets to about 25 or so i will look for another hosting account.

I dont link my sites to each other. Just scared google will notice something they dont like. but thats just me.

Ideally you should put them on different Class C ips if you want to do some interlinking. You should look at 'seo hosting" packages. Two of the cheapest available are hostnine and indianets.

I also use seohosting.com and have a dedicated server with hostgator for large sites.

    Many, many, many, many, many.

All right - I have two.

One with HostGator (US), the other with United Hosting (UK).

You don't necessarily need more than one host (or multiple accounts with the same host) if you're able to fit your entire portfolio of sites into one, but it's sometimes a good idea, anyway: if your host has some extended downtime, do you want to risk earning naff all for the entire time, or at least earn from those sites that are still online?

My reasons for using two hosts are twofold: the first being as described above; the second being for the benefits of having a more "local" host in relation to the predominant geographic location of a site's traffic makeup (some sites are mixed, of course, but others are visited almost exclusively from people in the UK ... and not only does hosting here perhaps help one's relevance in Google's UK index, it also provides slightly better site performance for my visitors).

As for your question regarding whether you should use separate hosts so you can link your relevant sites together, I would say just do it regardless (but, yes, only if they're actually related).

I have several hosting accounts. For my Joomla sites, I use Rochen Host. I picked them because they're the official host of the Joomla platform, so I figured if I ever have a problem with the CMS, they would be in the best position to help me. I've been with them a few years now and the support has been great and prompt.

For my WordPress sites, I use Just Host and Stable Host.

For my WP site on Just Host, I'm very unhappy with the results. In the past month, according to Pingdom, Uptime was 98.57%, Downtime was 10h 39m 57s, with the average downtime length being 29m 5s. This site was down 22 times in the past month. Needless to say, I'll be switching hosts for this site.

I picked Stable Host for one of my money sites after an extensive search for a reliable host and reading really good reviews of them. I haven't had the need to contact support yet, so I can't say much about it. With this host, my Uptime was 99.26% for the past month, Downtime was 5h 31m 54s with the average downtime length is 7m 12s. This site was down 46 times over the past month!

So, with Just Host, the number of Downtimes was less, but for a longer period each time. With Stable Host, Downtimes were a lot more, but for shorter periods each time.

With all the good things I've been reading about HostGator, I'm seriously considering switching to them. Anyone care to share their Uptime/Downtime stats for HostGator before I make the BIG switch?

I currently have 4 hosting accounts, and will have another one for a new project next week. I don't like to put all of my sites on a single account, or with just one provider.

Over the years I've had web hosts suspend accounts without warning, had accounts hacked, and had downtime problems occasionally, so I like to spread my sites out to reduce risk.

Also, my larger sites need to be on semi-dedicated plans so they should be separated from cheaper shared accounts.

I have one hostgator account and its a dedicated server. Now when it goes down.. I'm screwed. But it has a 99% uptime.. so thats not too bad. The 1% makes me nervous

Actually 99% uptime is not good at all. A site with just 99% uptime is down just over 7 hours a month. Anything less than 99.9% for a business site is really not acceptable. I have three dedicated servers and one of them has been up over a year, the other about 8 months and the last one needed a drive replaced a couple of months ago. Without all those other peoples sites on your dedicated you really should hardly ever have any downtime.

I have many web hosting accounts. I just recently started using HostTheName for some of my websites and they have been great so far. I have 13 websites on a webhostingpad shared account and 12 websites on a HostGator baby shared account. HostGator is has been the best web hosting experience for me yet.

I used to have more than one hosting account but after having problems I ended up with just one VPS account with Hostgator who have been very reliable for me. That's for over 30 sites and blogs. Maybe I should get another but past experience puts me off.

After responding to this thread earlier, it really got me thinking that I need to switch my host sooner rather than later. So I went ahead and purchased a VPS plan at ServInt for $49/month. It may be a lot more expensive, but I figured the money I lost because of the downtime was wayyyy more than that. I am so glad I won't be dealing with the constant downtime of a shared hosting account anymore.

Too many ... more than I need ...

My main and favourite hosting account is at TypePad, but I also have HostGator and Heart Internet (that's a UK one, for my .co.uk sites targeting a UK market specifically).

I also have the paid upgrades at both Weebly and Yola (which increase the number of sites/domains you're allowed and take away the host's advertising button from your pages, making it look more professional).

I also have a free hosting account at Byethost (they don't put an advertising button on your sites) but I'm hardly using it at the moment.

i tend to go for dedicated servers - I really hate it when you end up on the same VPS as someone who abuses the machine with spamming or excessive scripts!

I have a few different accounts. I use Dreamhost for my personal accounts, they have been my favorite host out of all that i've used. For business related stuff my partner has us set up on fatcow...not happy with them at all. I've used a company called startlogic before, they were pretty good. I have clients that use hostgator, they seem to be a good host as well. Also dealt with network solutions, which seem to work really well but are a little on the more expensive end for my liking.

I have five of them. I like to keep sites in broad niches on different hosting accounts. Fitness, writing, etc have their own accounts.
