Exact Keyword Match Domain Question

I have an exact keyword match domain name for a make money online keyword that has 14,800 global searches per month. However, there are more than 4.7 million competing sites for this long tail keyword per Google and I have no clue where my site ranks, except I do not see on the first 10 search result pages. Note - I do, however, rank #1 on both Yahoo and Bing for this keyword! LOL - $0 as a result to date!

I am actually considering a complete overhaul of my website as it was running a certain pre-installed multi-income stream for me that wasn't working. However, I do not want to waste time if it doesn't have the potential to turn into a financial success somewhere down the road.

So I guess my real question is this: With the above information I provided - 14,800 global monthly searches, 4.7-4.8 million competing sites and I have the exact keyword match domain (no "x" or anything before or after keyword, just the exact match) - does the fact that I do have this exact match make it worthwhile for me to exploit that or is competition just too great regardless? I realize there are additional SEO considerations to take into account, i.e. high PR links, backlinks, etc, but I am wondering if this domain can be key to cutting through the competition and receiving pro-treatment from Google with the right SEO strategy.

I apologize for the length of my post, but I wanted to provide as much detail and information as possible in hope that it would be sufficient for someone to answer my question.

Any comments/responses would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Anthony

  • Is the 14,800 search number an "exact" match, or "broad" match? If "broad", then try checking "exact", and you'll see those numbers drastically reduced. If it is "exact", then, good find!

As others have told me, the only competition you have is page 1 of Google results. Check the top listings and see how stiff the competition will be.

    • I just triple-checked via Google Keyword Tool - 14,800 monthly global searches is result with the Exact Match box checked. Currently, I am unable to check competition on first page as the SEO program I have been using for this purpose, Traffic Travis (free version), will not properly load for me...frustrating!

Thanks for the input; much appreciated. Now I just need to figure out my next move, assuming I can get some competition information...soon!

  • If that free tool is not working for you I would highly suggest you use SEO Quake.

It's a free tool that works as a toolbar in your browser and gives you immediate results from a single website/page or all search results with a cool toolbar below .

    • Thanks for the tip; actually, I already have SEO Quake on my home computer! I'm at work now, so I cannot access that information. However, I must say I like the information it produces.
  • You might also get a free trial of Market Samurai which will show you your competition including how many backlinks they have and where you rank for your keyword.

    • Thanks for the advice! I'm currently at work (hardly working - LOL) so I can not download Market Samurai on my work computer. I plan to do so when I get home in about 7 hours (unless I cut out early...it's Friday!). If anyone is interested, I'll post my results later to see if my domain name has potential.
