How much initial investment is required to get a good start?

As in paying for domain names and hosting and all that. How much recurring fee would I have to pay every month to maintain/keep those things?

I don't have a wad of cash to spend on PPC as my starting joint to Internet marketing, but I have a few change to spare for a single host and a few other necessary tools to have a start. I'd rather use a little money to start then none at all because I don't feel like I'm in control when I'm forced to use websites like Squidoo and whatnot.

    For a domain name, it'll cost you anywhere from $5 to $15 a year.
    For web hosting you're looking at $7-10 a month.

    Exactly what Mike said. Also shop around, you can usually find discounts for domain names and hosting online.
