Keyword in domain with added word?

One keyword I'm trying to rank for has been taken on all the popular domain extensions. So my only suggestion I can think of is to add a word on the end.

If my keyword was "How To Watch Football Online"

Would it be harder to rank for that keyword if I added a word on the end in the domain?

e.g.

www.howtowatchfootballonlinetoday.com
www.howtowatchfootballonlinenow.com

I haven't had any problems with using the keyword in the domain and adding a word or letter at the end of it. If you can't get the exact keyword domain alone then I'd go for it and maybe even test out two different sites and domain options.

I am not guru here but I think adding just one letter say Y or V would help better than a word. Say, www.howtowatchfootballonlinev.com

I think Google would remove that letter and read it as EMD.

I've seen some domains at the top of google search results using this method recently.

Same, but I'm just wandering if Google will smack down on this in the future. I suppose the letter could mean anything, but it looks obvious that it's used for SEO purposes.

I think the exact keyword phrase is the best way to go and adding a word at the end is secondbest:

    keywordworld.com
    keywordsecret.com

Some people say that using hyphens (How-To-Watch-Football-Online.com) is better than adding words to the end. I don't know how that compares to a domain with a word added to the end though....

Just add a hyphen. When you start adding words, it gets to be too cluttered. Not necessary to add hyphens between each word, either.

    Try: www.howtowatchfootball-online.com

Adding another word or letter shouldn't really have a huge effect on your rankings. It generally doesn't look as nice, though.

I'd see if the exact match keyword domain is available in .org or .net.

If not, then adding another word at the end would be fine, or even just another letter such as:
    howtowatchfootballonlinee.com

Adding another letter that is the same as the last isn't as noticeable and does not make the search engines want to rank you for another word as well.

    I hope this helps.
