Have Amazon/Kindle Gone Crazy? Please Help!

Hi Everybody,

I recently started uploading PLR books via Kindle and all was well up until a few days ago...

I started getting alerts rejecting my books one by one.

I have changed the titles, subtitles, created new cover images and have done everything I can to create a completely "new" and unique version.

But Kindle are still rejecting them!!!

If anyone knows how I could solve this problem, god bless you.

Here is the message I have been getting:

Hello,

We're contacting you regarding an issue related to title(s), that you published via Kindle Direct Publishing.

The title is either undifferentiated or barely differentiated from an existing title in the Kindle store. We remove such duplicate (or near duplicate) versions of the same book because they diminish the experience for customers. As a result, we will not be selling the following title(s) in the Kindle store.

Your Healthy Marriage: Down to earth methods that can save your relationship, effectively dealing with your marriage issues, easily solve any marriage crisis and prevent any future relationship breakdown (ID: 1415163)

If you have any questions regarding the review process, you can write to kdp-quality@amazon.com.

Try writing some original stuff. The PLR days on Kindle are just about over.

Yes I wouldn't be surprised if they started getting rid of the "change the title and subtitle and it's unique" PLR method.

Will mean a lot more effort to get your Kindle ebooks published.

      Seriously-

People uploading PLR are ruining it for real content creators.

If you aren't adding value to the market, you will fail.

      Figure it out.

Within the last week or two there was an article (in the WSJ, I seem to recall) about the overwhelming number of titles on Kindle which are rehashed PLR (and its cousins). If memory serves, the percent of new submissions to Kindle which are rehashed PLRs is either 60% or 80% of all submissions. The term in the publishing business for such submissions is 'slush.' If 60 or 80% of all titles produce bad reader/buyer experiences then Kindle will die of slush overdose. Either the stables get cleaned out or the market dies.

I do this on Amazon. It usually takes me several months to writer a 60-to-100 page special report. The downside is that some sell instantly, while others never sell.

Often, the reports I believe are the best in every way sell one or two copies a month.

But that is part of the game.

Amazon will soon spit all spammers out, in my opinion.

OMG... Please tell me people aren't going to put illegible spun stuff up on the Kindle as a book. Why not just open a text document and hit random keys on your keyboard and then publish that?

If Amazon is cleaning up the Kindle store, that's really fantastic.

The other day, I was searching for books on a hobby and the Kindle samples I downloaded were just pathetic. It's like I was browsing one of those article directories that will publish anything and everything.

Let's hope Amazon does a good job of it.

The way that I can see to solve the issue is to write the book rather than try to get by on PLR material. It won't be long before many more of the PLR Kindle titles are thrown out by the looks of things.

Very true. They know the market is saturated. Probably had their own PLR books rejected and know the writing is on the wall. So what do they do? Make as much money as possible by selling a kindle course.

No offense, but that doesn't sound crazy to me. It's perfectly reasonable. Amazon is a respected brand name -why should they want to sell the same book over and over again under different titles? This could quickly get out of hand, and it would end up ruining Amazon's credibility.

When Amazon says "title", they are talking about the entire product.

All they have to do is compare two documents to see how original a title is.

If a "title" has more than 20% in common with the one that is marketed the same way, then it is absolutely an over-the-top copy of an existing work.

Um... no. You've just created a new and unique mask to hang on the book so people don't know it's the same as another one.

Amazon has not gone crazy, they've come to their senses. The lazy approach never lasts long. 10+ years ago anyone could put up an AdSense site and it would start to make money. So they began to sell templates and courses so folks could throw up 1000's of AdSense sites in day(s) then Google killed it.

Happens on other things as well. It's now just happened with the throw up PLR "as is" model on Amazon. Ba-bye. Good riddance.

PLR isn't the problem, it's the way it was used on Amazon which gives it a bad name.

couldn´t agree more - sometimes i´m wondering why, on the internet, anyone thinks fast money is possible while nobody has the idea to copy a brick and mortar store and open the exact same store or with 80% same products and no personal approach at all - just pure copy. i know that there are the same kind of stores everywhere but they all have their personal business model while PLR is just about adding the same copy again and again.

Now is the time to invest your time and energy on the content and less on the process.

Using better tools will help you add value and make the creation process faster and much easier. Good tools will allow you the time to focus your attention on writing higher quality content.

Here is something I wrote awhile back that applies even more now...

To achieve the best results, you need to do more than just copy-paste-upload your PLR Articles. Spinning your PLR Articles is a great "first step" to writing valuable content. PLR Articles that are "Spun Correctly" can be considered a "starting point" to help you build your research. Always remember to add as much "real" value as you can when using PLR Articles. The earnings potential of non-customized content is limited and any money earned will likely not continue for very long.

I've been hearing this was coming for a little while...lots of people didn't want to listen.

Amazon wasn't about to let their grip on the potentially BILLION dollar ebook market take a nosedive because of a group of get-rich-quick spammers trying to sell a bunch of CRAP thru their system.

PLR wasn't necessarily the problem....I still believe there is quality PLR out there and you can use it to produce a high quality product.

But the way people were using the cheap, worthless PLR and uploading it to Kindle without making any changes...or just changing the title...well, anyone looking realistically at things had to KNOW that wouldn't cut it for very long.

I feel sorry for those who were sold on these methods and paid money to learn them...

I'm glad Amazon is finally cleaning things up....but I'm not going to give them a round of applause - because I knew this was coming....it was bound to happen.

Amazon had to protect their business...and ebooks are quickly becoming BIG business.

Enough people keep buying crappy ebooks on Kindle and Amazon will get the blame.

The average person doesn't know what PLR is...or that there are people teaching other people to fill Amazon with this nonsense.

All they know is that they bought a Kindle, bought a few ebooks....and felt ripped off.

How long before those customers get sick of wading thru the CRAP ebooks and just say, "Screw it....I'm buying a Nook!"....or...."This sucks....I'm buying an iPad"....?

Amazon can't risk having that happen.

I know you directed this question at edlewis but I just wanted to give you my 2 cents. I purchased several Kindle packages from various Warriors. A few of the Kindle packages were all about putting as much PLR content as you can on Kindle for huge profits.

Ed's Kindle clone method was different.

His method shows you how to put quality ebooks on Kindle for a sustainable income. This is not a get rich quick method but it is a long term method. That is what you want.

The days of PLR crap on Kindle are coming to a screeching halt! So if anyone tries to convince you that you can throw up some re-hased PLR and make a bundle.... run the other way as fast as you can!

I really want to thank all of you for all the great viewpoints and angles!

The thing that really annoys me is that I've purchased about 4-5 kindle products from different people and most of them were purchased quite recently crowned as WSO of the day!

Almost all of these guys show you a 5,000 to 6,000 paycheck on their amazon account (it may be fake) and that really gets you fired up and motivated to get there as well.

I feel a bit dumb now, for not listening to my gut feelings in the first place.

But as most of you know, when you are trying to prove to yourself that you CAN make a living online, these kind of products become especially tempting!

I've also purchased the kindle clone eBook earlier today and have read it in about 15 minutes. The eBook is good in giving you the basic concept, but I felt that it doesn't provide solid examples and step by step instructions on how to implement the idea presented in the eBook.

You don't need an ebook to create a unique Kindle book. Everyone has something they are genuinely interested in and can write about or hire a ghostwriter to write about. I'm working on my second Kindle book and I'm loving this one.

Don't worry about getting the wrong start. You've got the right info now and know what direction to go in. Think about something you're really passionate about and write an ebook about it. Forget about what's hot in IM ... write for the larger audience. There's literally so much one can write about. It's endless.

The ironic part is that if you use quality PLR (from the likes of Peggy Baron and Tiffany Dow not the PLR warehouse type sites) and put some elbow grease into it vs. wasting time doing the PLR "as is" splatter approach you'll make more money in the long run even though you'll have a lot less titles.

And now that Amazon is given those type of titles the boot it means that a lot of folks just wasted a lot of their time. The silver lining, I guess it didn't take that much time to liter Amazon so you shouldn't have wasted that much time. :p

I'm always amazed at how much time spammers will invest in something, get hammered so their time is wasted, then do it all over again and again.

I'm even more amazed someone would post this thread and proclaim Amazon has gone crazy.

When you look at various threads the past few months: ban this, ban that, and now payment processors just looking to ban the IM field - this is a poster child of the problem.

Unless there is even a minor barrier to entry for something you can be sure there are hordes trying to litter it with crap.

I want to actually thank you for sharing this experience. By you sharing what Amazon sent to you, you have actually made my day. I just started publishing to Amazon, but was already reading and seeing all the crap that was being suggested, even by warriors about PLR and Public Domain.

This thread has renewed my excitement because I was becoming disheartened watching so many make bank and I KNEW a lot of it was from PLR. I just can't bring myself to do that. I mean, PLR has it's place. For me, it is an idea/brainstorm generator that helps to catapult me into a new direction of writing.

But the bottom line was that I was worried that my own works would be lost in the Amazon Sea of Crappy PLR books so I would never get the fair shake that I see that this could be.

I am so glad they are cleaning house. Now I feel renewed and hopeful as I move forward with my own works.

Incidentally, there is another millionaire, John Locke, who wrote a book on how he sold 1 million ebooks in 5 months. I went ahead and purchased it last night.

For us who are internet marketers, it is worth the $5 for the info, but the basics are that he created his characters persona, a website, twitter, and a few other small things he did. For those of use already using all this, it will be a cake walk.

Search Amazon for "How I Sold 1 million ebooks in 5 months". He breaks it all down. I am of no affiliation, just hungry for the knowledge.

I just finished John Locke's book on "How I sold 1 Million ebooks in 5 months"

I actually had purchased one of his fiction works prior to reading this how to book....I did not like his fiction at all yet his books remained in the top ten best seller list for Kindle for a very long time.

I always wondered how he did it. But his how to book simply explained his method.

His books are written to his target market. I obviously was not the target market...lol.

But there is a couple of things that really stand out with his method for selling his ebooks.

                      1. He works hard to cultivate a great relationship with his readers.
                      2. He doesn't spam his customers or even asks them to buy his books. He just treats them as his friends.

He knows his market and works hard to keep them happy!

We hear things like this often in the IM community at large. It is pretty cool to see that it works. Pretty simple, find a market that wants to buy things, and sell them those things.

                        Sounds win win to me.

            Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the great feedback!

In a way I didn't feel 100% comfortable filling the kindle store up with crap that thousands of other people have already put there!

I already started making some money (not that much) and you know that feeling when lightning strikes and those darn $$$ signs come up to your eyes.

The kindle profit dream is a really big one, and once you start selling you really see its awesome potential!

In retrospect, perhaps the next step in kindle publishing is finding new ways to re-create or create 100% completely unique content that doesn't take ages and has true value to its readers.

That way its a win-win situation.

In any case with that in mind do you guys/gals have any suggestions other than hiring a ghost writer?

            Thanks
            Ari

If you don't want to write completely unique books, you can at least outsource rewriting of PLR content quite cheap (~$1/100 words), but quality would not be great, so the best choice would be to publish great quality books in high demand niches (such as fitness or weight loss)

Amazon are just looking after their reputation and their customers. You can still make good money on Kindle, hire a good ghost writer and you want have any issues with them.

Changing titles and subtitles and covers hardly constitutes uploading a unique ebook. Try writing something of your own instead of uploading PLR. Kindle was bound to catch on to this crap sooner or later and clean house.

This is true. There are those who spend the time and effort to build a real business and provide quality to their customers and then there's a large crowd that's just looking for the easiest buck they can make.

They're like a swarm of locusts, devouring everything in their path. It makes no difference that the long term effect of sending their spam all over the place or spamming the crap out of Google News or submitting crappy plr ebooks to Kindle makes it more difficult for all marketers in the long run. The sites under attack start cleaning house, closing the doors, whatever necessary to get rid of the pests.

Then they come and whine in the forum about how evil Amazon or Evil Google or evil [insert]Plimus, Yahoo, Squidoo, Hubpage, EZA, Craigslist [/insert] is discriminating against Internet Marketers.

Give me one good reason why they wouldn't?

I am a big believer in the "what goes around, comes around" idea. If it is indeed someone's intention to STS (spam the s**t) out of a site or a platform and they make aditional money teaching this to others, that the world will even things out for them.

Funny thing, you never hear about that part of it.

I was just on Amazon the other day and the sheer amount of rehashed crap is mindboggling. I'm glad that Amazon is coming to their senses with this. And OP, agree with other posters, you should definitely write your own content. Not only does it look better but you'll get more street cred for being an authority in your niche.

Oh I know, trust me. I own a forum, and as soon as it hit PR1, it was like someone had sent an army of autobots on my door step. I'm battling it every single solitary day.

The sad thing is that probably the majority of the people who use these methods of making money and promotion have been taught that it's alright by other marketers. It's a never ending cycle.

You will find that there are marketers in these parts who also say that spamming forums is an awesome technique to win the love of Google.

Sometimes I think that flogging and blanket parties should be brought back.

lol I know. I've read it more than a handful of times, and quite recently too. Unfortunately, what they don't tell you is that most forum owners will delete such spam as well as accounts that do not post any relevant content to the forum.

Then you see people creating threads that talk about how they created a million backlinks with software X and are now wondering why the vast majority of them aren't showing up in Google. It's kind of like throwing sh!t at the wall and seeing how much will actually stick.

I think it is great that Amazon take their Kindle store seriously and reject remakes.

I would be very angry if I bought a new book, and it contained the same content as one I have already bought.

I also do not like spinned books for that matter. I want to learn new stuff, not send you money. Books are to express original ideas, not to reharch other peoples work.

What you are saying is that you have done everything you can to create a new and unique version EXCEPT create a new and unique version.

Put a party dress on a pig, and it's still a pig.

Take the bad advice about using spinners, and you get a party dress full of rotten sausage.

I have to agree with the general consensus here. it's great that Amazon are making efforts to remove as much crappy content as possible. There's no substitute for writing about topics you have some genuine knowledge in or that you care about.

I'm surprised it has taken Amazon this long to figure out what was happening and how to stop it. Hopefully, they will do everything necessary to clean out the spam as well as stop the incoming rehashed trash.

Telling us your experience is appreciated very much. I've got several eguides (ebooks) started and they will all be original work. Original work is what will stand out and make a name for yourself.

PLR certainly has its place, just not on Amazon with new titles and a new cover.

(Repeating the rant of: I can't believe it took Amazon THIS long to take action.)

Personally I think they should hire a publishing firm that will preview each book to make sure their is a proper standard. You should also be required to pay $200 for every book you upload to Amazon. That would certainly stop the trash

I think doing that would be like shooting your own two feet. Amazon needs inventory, and lots of it, with more fresh inventory arriving constantly. They just have to perform some due diligence in what they accept to insure the work is original.

It will be interesting to watch just how well they purge junk, what safeguards are put in place, and what extra things an author might need to do before getting published.

Yes, because traditional publishing houses never ever publish trash. I've never read a book published the old way that I did not like.

Lets not all go crazy now with over regulation. It appears Amazon has seen the light and is rejecting this crap out so lets give it some time.

Well one thing for sure is that I know if I had a Kindle and I bought a book on a certain topic and then went back into the store after reading the book and went and bought another book with a different author and title and it turns out it was word-for-word the SAME book I just bought the week previous, I'd be angry to say the least. So good on Amazon for improving the 'customer experience'. It would be a different story if all books were free... but if you're paying for a book and end up being duped to buy a duplicate, then do you think that's fair to the consumer?

You are uploading slightly rewritten PLR and wondering why Amazon is rejecting it? You got to be kidding.

Why would you think that Amazon would want to be bothered with old, rehashed crap? They are one of the masters of marketing. They are not going to sell that kind of crap. Maybe that was possible previously, but they obviously caught on and put a stop to it.

I am so glad that amazon is finally realizing how deep the PLR waters have gone. Personally i love the kindle self publishing opportunity and i am writing my own fiction as well as a how to ebook which i will publish to kindle once completed.

What use to dishearten and demotivate me was the fact that i had to work so hard to write my original imaginative and creative content while people out there are just uploading garbage and banking it! This is great news for the real self publishers and writers as removing the trash will give us more opportunity and exposure.

    thank you amazon,

Don't be discouraged, dollars to donuts the minions out there uploading PLR "as is" especially in the last few months are not banking it.

The only person banking it in that scenario is the person selling them the course on how to spam Amazon.
