New affiliate website - advice welcome

I'm a newbie, have been lurking in this forum for the past several days.
Here's the situation: my husband and I started an affiliate website (coupon codes and discounts for online retailers) just over two months ago.
We're doing all the right things, such as writing and submitting articles, press releases, trying to get backlinks (quite hard if your budget is relatively limited - all legitimate non-spammy link-sellers,bloggers etc. require extortionate amounts to write one blog post for you!), have submitted our site to a few directories (these we actually paid for) and are SEO-ing our pages as best as we can but without having them look trashy/made just for SEO.
Now, our US visitors have never been more than 25-30 a day on a good day (but closer to 15-20 on most days)! That's extremely low! (I'm specifically talking about US visitors because these are the most likely to use our US-focused coupon codes and we are targeting those more. With international visitors the number goes up to maybe another 10-15 a day max).
Despite that, our CTR is very high and for having such few visitors, our sales numbers are actually not bad at all (we've made a very modest $140 in commissions since we started and a total of 21 sales) so I know that if enough people come to the site, it can be very successful and profitable.
Our target number is 1500-2000 visitors a day, which seems very far away and almost unrealistic at present.
So my question is: outside PPC (which we're "experimenting" with at the moment but with limited success so far), how can we increase our visitor numbers? Obviously I'm not expecting them to go from 25 to 1000 in one night, but it seems like our traffic goes up VERY VERY slowly despite our link-building and SEO efforts. If it continues at this pace, we're going to need 2-3 years to get to our desired traffic level!!
