What is the average profit margin in an online business?

Hello everyone,

I am starting an online services company. We do SEO and Virtual Assistance.

One of the partners has invested some money and I would like to know when it is considered to break even. I suppose the investor should receive his investment plus a profit in a certain amount of time so he can say the investment paid off.

What is the average percentage it would be considered a reasonable profit for his investment?

What is the average profit margin for this kind of business?

    It reallllly depends what you're doing. I have made over 5,000% ROI in the past, but that's not typical for most things. If you can double your money within weeks or months, that could be considered a reasonable profit. Breaking even should be your minimum goal. If you are losing money, sometimes all you need to do is make a few minor tweaks to break even, then make a profit. It's too complex of a subject to go into detail about here, though.

    How long is a piece of string? It's kinda like that. There are far too many variables. Business model, niche, traffic methods, competition, etc all play a role in profit margins. There are just too many variables to give a meaningful answer.
