Best ways to build a relationship with my list

Hi all,

Recently I've been getting low opens and clicks on my lists.

My question is, how do I get a good response from my list?

What should I send to them?

I do ad swaps and the offers are not too bad, because I review the offer before to check if it's suitable for my list.

Thanks
B.H.

Have you tried giving them some great content for your niche?

For example writing long emails with good information, or sending them a report that doesn't suck.

      Hi,

      I normally write short emails..
I'll try giving them help in their niche in the emails.

I do give them free products like reports and tutorials

Sending offers that they "should" be interested in doesn't mean anything.

Your first 5 emails set the tone for how your list will respond- if your first few emails are offers, people will either unsubscribe or just never open your emails.

It sounds like your list in is IM if you're doing adswaps-- a 20% open rate for an IM list is amazing-- meaning that people on your IM list are on 30 other lists and that equals about 10 offers a day that they're seeing.

Provide value and be slow to promote offers.

Great reply Nate, thank you. I loved the comment about your first 5 emails setting the tone for how your list will respond.

I like the idea of creating some sort of audio or video to send your list so they can hear your voice to help build a relationship. Either you talking on the camera or giving a live demonstration of something using screen recording software such as CamStudio.

Also, if you try to get people on your list as a result of buying something from you then that could be good. As there is already a relationship there as a result of the purchase.

If they have parted with their money and have gotten a awesome deal from you on one of your own products then I think that can be an excellent relationship builder and more powerful than just giving them something for free to get them on the list.

Do your market research and find out what people in your
niche *REALLY* want - and then give it to them.

If you want to build a better relationship with your list then
start interacting with them to find out what they want. You
can survey them, get feedback via e-mail exchanges, etc.

Your decreasing open rates and click-through rates are an
indication that your current strategy is not working so it's
time to change and find what does work.

I don't think that running multiple ad-swaps in a short time
period is a good idea because you dilute the attention that
people pay to you. Effectively, you're sending them elsewhere
to pay attention - and money - to other list owners.

I've very protective of my list subscribers and don't whore out
my list database at all. I'll only promote someone that I trust
and that has a product that I believe my subscribers will find
    really useful.

But I rarely promote others. Instead I focus on strengthening
the relationship between me and my subscribers and get them
to focus on how my own offers can benefit them.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

    Shaun

I agree with what has been said - good content that matters to them.

You have to know your customer - what are their problems, fears, stuggles, etc...and what can you offer that will help them with those things?

    That's where you should start.

I'm doing a niche survey on my site right now - check it out. Those who participate will get my raw data for free....if it's in your niche then it may help you with some fresh content. YourResearchDiva dot com - the video is on the "Niche Research" page - see you there!

I agrees with what other warriors have said. Send valuable content. Overdeliver. Don't sell at all in the first few messages. Tell a personal story, build a relationship. Only send high quality offers that you would buy yourself.

Why don't you do a video of yourself doing a review of an offer and show that to your list

The best way to build a good relationship with your list is to not just hard sell them. In between your offer emails put out some content that will be useful to them. No links, just something to help them out. Don't be afraid to go the social route either, it lets the list know your personality and can make them like you better. Something that should be extremely effective is to use the word FREE. Throw your list a bone and give out some free content from time to time.

I agree with the above posts on this one, got to give a lot of value to your list and they will come to respect you for it in the long run, building a social presence with them is great as well as they will come to know like and trust you.

So many poeple worry about the frequency in which they should be mailing their list as well, my thoughts on that is if the content is great then it wont matter at all.

Hope this helps and good luck

here are some suggestions to further Cement the relationship with your list . You might think some of what i am going to be crazy but hear me out

      1. Give the best that you know : Most people to give the best that they k now because they do not want to create their own competition but giving the best that you know sets you apart from the rest . they are probably on a lot of people list and competiting for their attention too . If they have come to know top quality from you every time they open your mails , they would open your mails. You engage them . you understand them and most importantly you are helping them .

      2. Help a lot before promoting : Sincerely and genuinely help this people like a friend . know their problems. talk about your experience . Show them ways around it their problem. Send at least 5 helpful emails before promoting anything that would make you money .

      3. Get on camera : Do a live video recording of yourself reviewing a product or service or the results you got with product et.c . people want to see the face of the people that has been writing to them . It helps with bonding with your list because they can see you are a real person . they get to hear your funny accent if you have one and get to see your personality is like . anyhing that helps you bonding with you .People feel they know you more when they can see you . If you notice in most product launches , you can see product owners live on video . there is a good reason for this .

4.Do more video : People not always patient enough to read through long text emails . video is easy . if you are giving real value they would download your video , they would know your name and when you next email they would want to hear from you because you have helped them all through the steps

5.Survey your list : Ask them what their biggest problems are . Right post about it . Video post . Ask what time they want to receive their emails . Ask them what they want and give it to them . it is hard to resist someone who is giving what you want

      6. Increase your social proof :Always be seen with big name marketers in you niche . Interview powerful people in your niche .Do high value webinar presentations . Stamp your authority in your niche . everyone wants to be associated with a success .The more successful you are perceived the more likely they believe you can help them

7 . Do a pre-launch : Once you figure what your people want , do one of two helpful videos and make it very clear in your presentation that this is a product launch . Say it more than once . Most product launches involve 3 helpful videos and then a final presentation that ask your list to invest in your program .And show them why purchasing the product will help solve their solve their problem .

The above posters have good points.
Good content for sure. But don't give the farm otherwise the list will just expect more free
stuff all the time. Enough so that they learn something valuable and want to learn more.
Also, email them often but NOT offer after offer. Many big name guys pummel their lists, don't be the same
When they come onto your list, let them know more about you. who you are, what you've done, how you feel you can help them.
      Write compelling subject lines.
While you're doing adswaps, don't expect a high conversion rate. Adswaps are great for increasing the size of your list initially. I wouldn't do that long term though. 3-4 % on an adswap list isn't all that bad actually, so don't be too disappointed with those open rates

Do the right thing, and I am sure they will respond positively. Try to think of them before thinking of you and I am sure all will be fine. The problem is internet marketers most of the time just think of their own benefit and treats their as if they were a group of stupid fellows to be exploited.
