Making Websites for Consumers and SB, any Experience?

hey warriors,

Anyone have any experienced, and if so can you give me a general idea of how you approached potential customer on what they needed to supply you in order to complete a site for them?

It seems, there are a lot of things and variables, and I just don't have any kind of checklist, not certain of a viable approach

Any feedback is greatly appreicated!

Web design, like a lot of freelance businesses requires a few examples of your work to pitch to potential clients.

The very first place you'll refer your clients is to your personal site, so it needs to be sweet and clearly outline your skills and attributes.

If you don't have a portfolio yet, you should get crackin. You can do a few free sites for friends or family or even set up a hosting account and build a few example sites.

From there you need to start finding clients to pitch. There are several freelance sites online such as Elance, or iFreelance to start you search. There is a lot of competition in the web design niche, so you'll need to find what makes you different and position yourself correctly.

You can also focus on your local market if you live close to a modest sized metropolitan area. Depending on you budget there are plenty of ways to advertise your services locally.

Tell me a little about what steps you have taken so far to get started and we can go from there.
