My Moving Avatar on Twitter Is Making Me Sales!

I know there's a love em or hate em status with moving avatars, but I just gotta say that mine has made me several sales and gained me many followers!

If you want to see it look here: Twitter / TiffanyDow - I'm smiling and waving at you.

I get SOoooooooooooooo many follows and questions on how I did that. I direct them to my blog, which has a tutorial on it - and of course, all my products for sale.

I've had several people say this:

"I saw your moving avatar on so-and-so's profile page so I clicked to follow you. I asked you how to do it and you sent me to your blog, where I saw your Building an eBook Empire link, so I bought and I love it! What's the URL to your PLR site again? (where they then buy from there!)"

Not only have they become followers, not only have they become BUYERS, but they've become REPEAT buyers...all from a smile and a wave.

I'm just sayin....

    I haven't had any luck getting my animated avatar on Twitter. On the days when it will let me upload a GIF (rather than a JPEG), for whatever reason, it just seems to take the first frame only.

    Your avatar definitely stands out from the crowd. I almost DM'ed from twitter you last night to ask how you made it.

    Instead I looked at the properties and noticed it was 19 frames. Did you pull that in from a video? Or make 19 stills and animate them.

    Definitely a sharp idea to get exposure from the masses.

      Finally! I managed to get an animated avatar uploaded to Twitter!

      For anyone else having a problem, here's what I had to do to get mine to work (I think...):

      1) Have more than 2 frames. I ended up adding additional frames I didn't really need. Don't know if this was necessary, but it was one of the features of the final, successfully uploaded file.

      Other file export settings:
      * Dithering on
      * Transparency off
      * Save differences between frames off

      I'm not sure which of these made the difference, but these were the final settings I used. Perhaps I'll try different settings some time and see if I can pinpoint what was preventing the animation from happening. (When I viewed the image file in a web browser, the animation worked. When I uploaded the file to a website, the animation worked. When I uploaded the animation to Twitter, only the first frame displayed.)

    Tiffany, that is one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen. When I clicked on your twitter link, I KNEW I was going there just to see your avitar, but it STILL got my attention. I ended up looking at your site, reading your updates, clicking on other pages of yours.

    There are 3 steps to making it. Since I'm too lazy to rewrite it, I'll swipe it from my blog:

    Step 1: Create a short video clip - under 8 seconds. Mine was 3 seconds. All I'm doing is waving and mouthing "Hi!" I used my handy dandy Flip Mino. I plugged it in and imported it to Camtasia.

    Step 2: Produce the video as a GIF file. I chose 64 colors. I played around with this - too many colors made the file too big. Too few and was just a bunch of dots hopping around the screen. Set it to custom size 150Ã--112. On file size, make sure both options are checked - Disable callout fade...and use instant zoom-n-pan. Both options help reduce file size. Name it and finish it.

    Step 3: Log into Twitter and go to Settings - Picture. Click browse and find the GIF file on your computer. When I tried doing it through FireFox, it kept saying Twitter is over capacity. But I then tried through AOL and it worked instantly!

    That's it!

          If you currently have an animated GIF as your Twitter avatar, do NOT change it!

          Twitter no longer allows animated GIFs. Learned that the hard way, because Twitter doesn't actually tell you anything.

    It used to be a real pain to upload an animated GIF. Apparently, instead of trying to fix the problem, Twitter decided just to not allow animated GIFs anymore. It's hidden away on a page--I don't remember where. It would be nice if they would tell you stuff like that on the upload page. But, for a communications service, Twitter does a pretty lousy job of communicating.

      Yep it took me a few tries to get my avatar uploaded but I knew that happened going in, so I did it when I had time to repeatedly upload. I know not to change it either, some people did and now they're pissed they can't get it back. I'll be frozen in time! lol

      In the morning, before I've poured enough caffeine down my throat, that avatar makes my eyeballs go squirrelly.

      However, it does dive me an idea. My new avatar will be me doing a hula dance in a mankini.
