My Mistake: Try Not To Use WordPress For Landing Pages

Hey Warriors,

I just wanted to give a quick heads up for those who may be
thinking about using WordPress for unique landing pages regarding
PPC campaigns.

============
It's not easy!
============

Especially if you are using any type of keyword tracking scripts, etc.

Why?

Because the visual WISIWYG editor blasts your HTML.

For example, if you enter:

<div align="center"> YOUR TEXT </div>

Then toggle back to your visual editor...

Then go back to HTML.

Your text will probably look like this:

<div> YOUR TEXT </div>

Which does basically nothing, and blasts your code.

It's also very difficult to format squeeze pages, remove navigation,
alter headers, remove side bars etc.

I've spent too much time coding, and then recoding.

And then recoding my recoded stuff.

And coding THAT again...

I think I'm going to just make a similar LOOKING
squeeze page format that is congruent with
my WordPress theme. But just code it in HTML
for my landing pages.

Again, just a quick heads up.

But if I'm crazy, and there's an easier way, I'm all ears.

Thanks, and happy Tuesday!
-Sean

        Thanks Andy,

        I'll post it for you.

        Here it is:

Anyone used Wordpress for landing pages?

That advice does seem to work so far.

(At least from an editing/formatting standpoint.)

I just flipped off the visual editor in my user settings.

Now I have to deal with only HTML...

But, wow is there a difference!

When I want to <center> my forms </center>

        It actually CENTERS them!

        Weee!!

        It's the simple pleasures

        Thanks!

        Hi Sean,

Ahhh! Is that a real puppy?

        {ahem}

Ok. When you use the WYSIWYG window, are you actually in that editor or do you switch to the HTML tab? I've never had problems using the editor in either tab. You can't put HTML in the WYSIWYG editor window.

Why do you even need HTML? Just enter your text in the editor and use the formatting keys.

Here's what I do when needed:

After I get the text as I want it in the editor, I switch to the HTML to add any additional code, like an opt-in box code.

Insofar as modifying sidebars... some themes are designed to allow more flexibility. Can't tell you which ones. You'd have to look around in the themes directory - unless someone has a better idea.

I'm gonna let everyone in on a great fix for this. I use it on ALL of my WP sites.

I too use to get pissed at the fact that my html was getting all jacked up in WP. But not much anymore.

I am not saying this is a 100% fix. But I am saying it will make your life a whole lot easier when trying to create pages in WP. Like a landing page or something.

          Here it is:

          Have fun,

To be honest I have not yet tried it on the newest ver. of WP. Because I have not upgraded any of my sites just yet.

I like to like to wait till a new version has been "ironed out" before I upgrade. But I can say it works just fine for me on the previous ver. of WP.

    Hi Sean,

If it's just the visual WYSIWYG editor that's giving you headaches,
then give this WordPress plugin a try --

WordPress › Disable Visual Editor WordPress Plugins

    Kind regards,
    Manuel Viloria

P.S. If you don't like plugins, then you can also uncheck
the use visual editor box in your WP Profile page.
