I use Google's keyword tool to research demand and PPC competition levels. I also use ebay's advanced search completed item feature to see if money is being spent in my target market as well what items are being sold.

Thanks for the info about where to look for keywords. I am interested in doing a blog on customer service, also along with webcasting.

Hasn't anyone noticed yet that the google keyword tool's advertiser competition column reads "no data" for any particular keyword?
Is it the same for you guys? Or am i probably missing something?

Micro Niche Finder is superb. Analyses all the competition and gives you a simple traffic light indication as to whether it's a good or a bad keyword to use.

First site I tried it on is now listed at number 4 in Google.

Worth every cent.

OK, I'm going for a New Year's drink, but first, I swear this is my last post of the year!, I'd like to also toss in the use of the (what used to be free) tool that you can get with Office 2K7-Excel as an add-on.

this is what the file is called, "Excel2007IntelligenceAddinSetup" This will install an Excel add-on called, Ad Intelligence.

William Owens, a wonderful Warrior who really, really helped me a lot says this, "In search of the Holy Grail...Now we have the ability to make statistically accurate search volume predictions for our market. Finally a tool that I bought some time ago that has returned good results is, "Niche Inspector." Although, it's a bit outdated now.

I use Keyword Elite, SEO Elite, & recently bought Micro Niche Finder (I think its great btw.. already found some wicked niches, saves so much time) and I'm also pondering internet business promoter (the price tag stinks but I used to have a copy of the old one and it was awesome for everything to do with promoting, including a lot of what Keyword Elite and SEO elite do already). ie: Keyword Generator and Keyword Density Analyzer, Search Engine Spider simulator, Top 10 optimizer, etc..

I miss it actually, cos it was sort of an all-in-one program, and I think I've just talked myself into paying the bucks because I can also see it as a valuable add-on service to my niche blog customers to submit their sites to all the search engines, directories and provide a list of sites that they should try to get a backlink from. Ugh, but now I'm getting off-topic! :/

Anyways, I procrastinated about buying Micro Niche Finder for months.. and only bought it a few days ago, and definitely think it's value-for-money, it finds untapped niches for you.

To give you an example, you type in the keyword, ie: Photography
Click on Search. And it brings up tonnes of "Photography" searches.

Among the results, we are looking for a Search Count of at least 250 and Exact Phrase Count of less than 10,000 from the results (and you can quickly narrow that list by removing all those that dont fall in that calculation).

For each term, it brings up:
- Search Count
- Last month's "Trend" for that search in a mini-graph
- Exact Phrase Count
- Ad Cost
- Commercial Intent (whether someone typing that keyword is likely to "buy" based on their searchterm)
- Strength of Competition (whether the sites that come up under that search terms' results have "optimized" their site for that particular keyword).

So I type in photography, and I get a massive list, most of which is completely saturated (as you might expect), but when you sort the list by search results.. you find some beauties that have not been tapped.

As in, not a single site in Googles search results has optimised their site with that exact search-term so it should be relatively easy to rank for this term in google. (Although in this case, it might be because of the apostrophy since inurl is counted as part of that SOC calculation)

Search Count: 1,000
Exact Phrase Count: 5,970
Ad Cost: $1.27
Commercial Intent: 21%
SOC: 7

Maternity Photographers
Search Count: 880
Exact Phrase Count: 7,430
Ad Cost: $2.20
Commercial Intent: 47%
SOC: 43

A quick click on each of the terms, and it takes me directly to affiliate programs.. at clickbank, Amazon Search, Google Search for "affiliate searchterm", and google product search.

A quick click on each of the terms shows me the articles in Ezine Articles, a Google Suggest Keyword Search.. shows me the Licensed and Unlicensed content, adword ads, etc.

So yeah I'm happy with this, I haven't yet used it for anything except an example photography site based on those keywords (for my own testing purposes) and am looking forward to using it to improve my existing sites and to offer solid micro niche sites that rank well.
