Help: spammers flooding my autoresponder.

Hello There,

I've come here looking for a bit of help or advice regarding a dilemma that I am currently having for my website.

I host an auto-responder that doesn't require a double opt-in. Anybody can come and create an account and they will start receiving our series of emails.

The problem is that I am being attacked by a persistent group of hackers/spammers that are installing bogus accounts and using proxies to do their work.

Although I've filtered all their IP addresses and eliminated the bogus email accounts, they still come at me every day! I've thought about using a CAPTCHA, but that will only slow them down, it won't stop them, so my question is;

Is there some way that I can stop this attack, other than using a double opt-in???

I thank you for your help and look forward to your input.

I don't know of any, but may I ask you why don't you want an opt-in?

    • Well my boss here at the company has the final say, and he has been dead set against using either double opt in or captcha (or both), simply for the reason that he "thinks" it might deter away potential clients.

It seems to me that the above solution is perfect for what we need, but my boss is having me post around to see if there are any other solutions to solve this problem, while still maintaining our active single opt in service.

I'm perfectly fine with double opt in/captcha but my word isn't final. Hopefully we can convince him to go for said method. It would make our lives easier.

Thanks very much for your reply

If i were you....i would try to convince my boss to do with
double optin for now to slow down or stop the spammers.

If its still a major issue then go with both captcha and double optin.
I know it could be a problem for future customers but if your boss
allows this spamming to go on then it will just damage product
and hurt the business plus hurting your reputation.

Split test it and see if it decrease or increase income.

The spammers might get your IP/domain blacklisted if they are doing what I think. (Using the single to spend spam to other people using bounces.) Might even if not.
