I want to set up a real business

Hello Warriorforum,

I've been wanting to set up a business for quite some time now and came across internet marketing and this forum. The thing is that I want to really set up a business. This means that I don't want to do any affiliate marketing or something similar.

The problem is that I have no idea where to start. I do not have any special skills in any field but am willing to learn. Does anybody have suggestions or something, any help is appreciated.

Find a problem that many have and solve it...

Actually, you will want to learn some about business. An online business is still a business and follows many of the same principles.

A bit of advice about the business side of it.

Set up an S Corp or LLC and run all your business expenses as well as your profits and losses through the company.

Get a good accountant, they are well worth the expense.

As far as IM advice, I'll leave that to the other more experienced people on this forum.

Something you might want to consider, though. You said you don't want to get into affiliate marketing. There are people who make a lot of money as affiliates and it's every bit a real business as anything else online or offline.

I'm surprised this hasn't already been suggested:

Start a business that is based on something you are passionate about.

As the old saying goes "find something you enjoy doing, then find someone who will pay you to do it".

If you focus on developing business ideas that interest you, you will eventually come up with a winner.

If you don't enjoy thinking up business ideas, maybe you should look for a partnership. You are still running your own business, but half of the work has already been done.

Good luck with your new ventures!

Does Would you have any advice as to who might be generous enough to give me a run down of what i need to do to get started and to read up on materials about online marketing so i will more familiar with terminology and will pick up on training etc a little easier?
        Thank you ;D

What's wrong with affiliate marketing? It's probably one of the easiest things you can do with little or no marketing experience and it can certainly serve as a great business model.

Spend a little bit more time reading on the forum and decide what type of online business you want to do.

There are many things that you can offer, it can be a product, a service or consultation. Like what highrank suggested find out what you're good at and get someone to pay for it

    Good luck!

      Hi Bartoss,

I am really new to internet marketing too but I can tell you what helped me get started.

Some people have mentioned some good ideas for you here. I definitely agree about finding something you are passionate about.

You said you don't think you have any specific skills but I would suggest that most people do - they just don't realise it. I felt exactly the same way but I took some time to really think about the direction I wanted to go in and discovered there are quite a few things I'm good at.

      Take some time to:
      - brain storm all the things you know a bit of information about already (might be related to your current study/job) and all the things you are passionate about
      - Make a list of the things you think you are good at (things you excel at or find easy) and another list about what people tell you your good at
      - A list of things you think you could talk about for ever without getting bored.

This is how I got started. You may find that in the end internet marketing is not for you. But from what I can see internet marketing is not just about affilliate marketing.

      You can also:
      - Sell advertising
      - Create your own products or service
      - Provide membership and charge for that
      - Coaching
      - and many more options. And thats just in the internet marketing field.

Other people make money from things like Selling on Ebay, Writing for other people, supplying a service (check out the 'fiverr' website as an example) and heaps more. I see so many opportunites on the internet.

After you work out what you want to do I suggest finding a mentor or someone who will lead you through the information minefield. Look for someone successful in the field that you have chosen, with a proven track record and who is willing to help others.

I flew half way round the world to find my mentor. And although I don't have much knowledge in internet marketing I found a mentor who is showing me how to build my knowledge while at the same time how to monitise my site along the way. I'm not saying you have to fly anywhere but make sure you find someone who you feel can help you.

I guess if you are serious about a business then like me you will realise that success won't come over night and that it will take time. The only way that I know of to become financially free overnight is to win the lotto!

Anyway good luck with your business and look me up when you're doing well as I love to hear peoples success stories!

Focus on using your strong sides to build your business and out source your weak sides.

Try to ask your self how much entrepreneur your compared to being and administrator or accountant, if you know your strong and weak sides on this matter you have allready gone far.

Try to read some Isak Adizes it is very learning full material regards companies and you as a leader.

I was there for sumer solstice but didn't go at night (when the open it up so you can touch the stones) because it was cold and rainy and I heard up to 30,000 people go there.... a little to much for me. But was great seeing it in person. I couldn't believe it was just next to the highway too haha!

if i get back over that way I'll give you a shout out!

You know what, Internet marketing is the trend right now. There are a lot of people who are doing business on the net. And it seems like they're really earning. It will be kinda tough at first but when you get used to the system and the rules, you will definitely earn the money that you want.

Have you been successful in internet marketing? Would you suggest for me to just browse this forum through its entirety and find whats appealing to me to set grounds for starting the building of an online revenue for cash flow?

I may be wrong Nick, but the OP asks about IM, then says "Not Affiliate Marketing, OR ANYTHING LIKE IT"

We all lok on IM as a business, a Marketing business. But he wants a business utilising Internet Marketing.

I suppose I ought to suggest something that answers the OP.

Open a Fish 'n' Chip shop (a business), and build a website to advertise it (internet marketing).

First of all let me welcome you to this IM world...

here what you need is persistence, consistence and hard work...

don't think affiliate marketing as something "useless"...you'll learn a lot from it...how to get leads and etc which in turn will help you in the future as well...

and don't hesitate to learn anything new!

start out with fivver and start offering legit services that people actually want. If you can offer any services on youtube then you can sign up for their partnership program

if you're good at writing content then wait no more and sign up at yahoo associated content. You'll start earning in no time!

Above mentioned example are just ideas...you can do a lot more...

If you're creative then you can buy a really good domain name and build a website and sell it on flippa

there's lots more but what you need is consistency!

    hope this helps

Over the past few months, I have truly noticed something that could potentially backfire. People (in the masses) are incorporating product creation as their only way of creating an online income for themselves. Anyways, let me cut it short: diversify your income streams.

I was skimming the thread and I just saw something related to Limited Liability Companies. I am NOT a lawyer, so don't consider this legal advice or anything. If you think you are going to truly make a decent amount of online income, it definitely be worth taking a look at Limited Liability Companies. There are numerous personal tax benefits, too. So, consult a lawyer and find out what is best for you and your business plan.

Of course, you could start an ecommerce business and sell physical products online.

I am doing this - on a dropship basis - and I'm finding that you still need to learns lots of internet marketing skills.

As a previous poster said doing your business through an S crop or LLC is the way to go and selling products as a retailer really does force you to operate through a company. Even if the commerce thing didn't work out at least you'd already be disciplined in operating through a company, keeping taxes etc.

Thanks so much for all the useful replies! Especially Nick Lawless.

I want to clear a few things up now. In my OP I stated that I didn't want to do anything like affiliate marketing. Rereading it I think it was indeed a little vague. The thing with affiliate marketing that puts me off is the fact that you are basically just promoting. You are more of a salesman for someone else. I am in no way saying that it is bad or anything as I think it is something that really requires a lot of skill and persuasion, it just doesn't appeal to me.

With the "anything like it" I meant that I would prefer not to do affiliate marketing, pure adsense websites. The thing with those is that I don't feel like I'm running a business of my own but that I am just being a promotor of someone else's.

Again, I don't think any of that is bad or that it isn't a real business, I apologise if it came across like that and I certainly didn't mean to imply that affiliate marketing is bad.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all the replies! And this is a serious thread.

P.S How can I thank someone?

      Hi Bartoss

Excuse my cryptic cynical reply earlier, it's just that there are a lot of people starting threads for alternative reasons recently, and this old codger has become wary.

I don't think anyone was offended with your remark, but it did come over a bit confusing.

I noticed that your sentence appears to combine Affiliate Marketing and AdSense. Although the two can be used together, they are alternative ways tp make income.

      1. AdSense works almost in a subliminal way, and earns income purely by people clicking on an add on the side of your site.

      2. Affiliate Marketing involves promoting and gathering customers to sell other peoples' products, thus earning an 'agent's commission'. It is often used as one of the quickest and easiest way to start a business online. By working in a tight niche, it enables you to gather prospective customer (to your list), to whom you can promote and sell your own products later.
Maybe by looking at it this way, you can see that it is indeed a business model, and a very successful one for many people. It is also a good way to build a business foundation to build on as you grow.

I can understand that it may not appeal to you, and you may need to find a different business model to work with. Good luck with whatever you elect.

      To Your Success

      Alan
