Don't Make This HUGE Mistake!!!

Hi Guys:
I just read "Big Mike's" excellent post about "getting back to basics." In the same vein, I caught myself making a HUGE mistake recently and want to share my little insight.

Too often we mistake "being busy" with " true income generating activity." Here's the difference.

In networking and IM there is only one true income generating activity....talking to prospects!!! Everything and I mean EVERYTHING else is deriviative..important...necessary...but derivative. If we don't talk with prospects we don't make money (now true...there are affiliate commissions ...from people who say "no" to our main opportunity and in pure product IM you don't necessarily speak with any of your customers....) but for my purposes here I want to focus on spending time on the main thing that generates income...talking with prospects.

On the other hand, we ...I...too often get bogged down with things OTHER than the one thing that makes me money....organizing, reading sales letters, google searches..and on and on. Before long I look up and I've spent my available hours on these non income generating activities...and wonder why I haven't generated the income I want.

I have several solutions to this problem:

1. I am VERY VERY clear in my own mind that talking to prospects is my number one priority...EVERY DAY!!! I schedule definite times (the same times each day) to talk with prospects EVERY DAY and pre- schedule EACH AND EVERY prospect appointment so that I appear to be and actually am professionally dealing with all my prospects. Blocking out specific times each day for prospect appointments helps keep this vitally important activity on my radar screen...and also lets me know when I need to up my efforts (if I don't have a full appointment calendar during my set appointment time each day!!!)

2. I also plan the time I spend EVERY DAY on important, but not directly income generating activity...
forum posts, video posts, PPC campaign management, social networking. This activity helps generate the leads that I talk to in my scheduled time each day. Important...yes...but not quite the same as speaking with prospects.

3. I'm always asking myself..."is this income generating activity?" This question keeps me constantly on track along with knowing that each day I have specific times when I speak with prospects and work on generating leads.

Doing these simple disciplines keeps me from making the huge mistake of substituting "busy work" in place of true "income generating activity."

Any thoughts?
