Are domain name discount codes only good for one year registrations?

Today I went to my friendly neighborhood domain name registrar to get a domain for my latest project. After inputting the discount code for this month and updating my input, absolutely nothing happen. No discount for you buddy. Not today.

Having been a long time reader of this forum and a student of things IM, I know that Google gives more PR SERP love to websites that are initially registered for two years or more. It's a credibility thing, baby. So of course I opted for two years. Good niches I stay in for the long haul.

So tell me something, are these discount codes only applicable to one year registrations? If so, in order to take advantage of them we have to sacrifice credibility and Google love just to save a little money? Do you see the irony in this?

I hope you get the gist of my concern. I am a little pissed off right now.

    I use Godaddy for my hosting. Whenever I register a domain with them, I use a coupon code. It has always worked for me. It doesn't matter if it is a one year registration or a multi year registration.

    On the other hand, if you are worried about Google preferring multi-year registrations and can't get a coupon code to work for your order, is it really that big of a deal. It is usually only accounts to $2 or so.

    I know the principle is wrong, but is it really worth anyones effort to do something about it?

      Hey Jim,

      I see your point. I know that the savings is minimal, but a penny saved is taken by the taxman. That is how the old saying goes, right?

      So coupons codes do work with Godaddy? Have an account but usually use Namecheap. Maybe I should reconsider my choice of registrars...

        I use code - OYH3 for Godaddy. It takes $3 off the 9.99 price and works for 1 year or multi years.
