My First Month on Kindle: 25 Sales...Thoughts?

Okay...I took action in early June...created 3 ebooks I uploaded to Kindle...so far, 25 sales and included transactions for all 3 books...One is clearly ahead of the other two...all deal with relationships...

I'm writing three more this week in a different niche...albeit evergreen...

Thoughts?

That does sound quite good for your first attempt.

I'm tempted to try writing a book for Kindle now that they're cleaning up the marketplace a bit (cracking down on the PLR etc).

I think I'd be happy to get any sales at all as I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to Kindle!

Listen folks...it is not rocket science IMO...you need to find a niche that is hungry, a topic you're interested in and then do some research, and then write your ebook...my three ebooks are in the "relationship" arena...divorce, getting ex back, marriage...there will always be a demand for good quality information on those topics because, let's face it, none of them are going away anytime soon.
I'm writing a new one today and tomorrow focusing on "women's health"...another area that's not going away too soon...
My advice to you all aspiring writers is to take your time, put out a good effort and then get it launched...my gut is telling me this is something that I can continue to build as a business, with a website of my own...blog posts on the topics I write about, etc...don't know if it will make me rich, but I do know that it is making me a few dollars right now...which is more than I can say for some of my other IM efforts...

I totally agree with everything you said here. The advice you laid out is better than 99% of the WSO's being offered on this subject. There really is no "secret trick" to making money by publishing to Kindle.

Most of mine are repurposed PLR exceprt for 1 and that is the only one that ever gets refunds. LOL.

I'm not sure what your are pricing yours at, but one thing I do is start them off at 2.99 then if they sell good, raise it to 4.99 the next month. Let that ride for a month and if you made more profit than the month before, raise it up again. That way you can figure out the best price for the most profit.

Congradulations. You have obviously completed several ebooks that are getting regular sales.
There really is a brilliant opportunity with kindle right now.
Its still relatively new, yet is gaining in usage.
One writer I've heard of is making over a million dollars a year writing vampire books. Taking advantage of the vampire craze that's been going on the past few years and publishing only via kindle.
Like anything else, some people will make almost zero, while others will make a killing with it.
But if you don't put the content out there, you will never know.
And the more content you put out there, the more chances you have of having a best seller on your hands.

I bought a WSO on here about Kindle formatting and it was great information…(wish I could think of it to give the author credit….sorry…). To that end, a lot of books on Kindle are formatted horribly or not at all.

Making a good table of contents and making sure it is clickable it the key. I sold over 30 last month… my best month ever. I am building just like you… keep up the good work and congrats!

I think 25 sales in the first month is a good start. In my experience with Kindle it has taken my books at least two weeks to start seeing sales come in.

My first book was published on February 19th, and each month since then my sales have continued to grow. I started out with only 4 sales my first month with this one particular book but since then I've topped 800 sales.

This book ranks #1 in two out of three categories(#2 in the third category) and is now in the Top 100 rated books.

Here is what I did (Which really wasn't much).......
      1. Had a professional cover designed. Paid $5 through Fiverr.
      2. Wrote a straight to the point description.
      3. Targeted my keywords.
      4. Created a facebook fanpage for the book.

What has really helped my sales is the outside promotion I am getting, I have noticed that a very large number of Amazon affiliates have promoted this book in some way or another.

I have over 20 books up on Amazon right now and although this is my best performing book I have about 5 others that are not very far behind and I've followed the same formula for all.

Very inspiring cage73...I'm thinking the same in that everything I've heard from people who succeed with Kindle has been based on sales continuing to build as time goes on...I haven't figured out the FB thing, yet, although I've certainly read about it...Thanks for your input...

I have never used facebook, so I really don't know about it. I have heard that one person can only have one account even if it is just a business. Is this not the case or is there ways round it?

Why do you think you had so many affiliates promoting your book? Do you think it was facebook? What did you put on your facebook page?

I do apologize for all the questions. it is just eagerness to know how to go about things.

I'm no expert on Facebook but I believe you can have one account with as many fanpages tied to your main account as you'd like.

Creating a Facebook fanpage is something I only recently did, maybe a month or two ago. It wasn't immediate. Of course, now when I publish a book I have a fanpage created within a couple of days. My page consist of nothing more than my books cover, with links to my Kindle page and Createspace page.

As far as affiliates, I can't really say why affiliates are promoting it, other than I've targeted a pretty tight niche that is hungry for fresh, new information.

I bought this WSO for formatting and it's perfect - straight and to the point and comes with a template. Before that I had to struggle to get my books in the right format:

Just do a google search for your books and you should be able to determine from there if your book is being promoted by others based on the search results.

Like anything else in life, its very much a hit and miss affair.
One person will sell dozens there first month, another zero.
The one selling dozens will have a lot of encouragement from their results,
but the one who sells zero definitely shouldn't give up.
Kindle and Amazon is a really good avenue to sell additional product if you

Okay...I took action in early June...created 3 ebooks I uploaded to Kindle...so far, 25 sales and included transactions for all 3 books...One is clearly ahead of the other two...all deal with relationships...

I'm writing three more this week in a different niche...albeit evergreen...

    Thoughts?

Great.. keep it up... Would love to know about your marketing strategy tho.

Outside of press releases, I do not have a solid marketing strategy...have set up a FB page for two of the ebooks, but that hasn't done much...I'm also working to sell them via Barnes & Noble's Nook, and would like to hear from anyone who's had success with selling ebooks via eBay...is it worth it?
The best advice I can give you is understand your target market (men? women? demos, etc) and then write excellent content...

How long are you're eBooks? I've written two myself, but they're both over 250 pages long. Not sure if Kindle is where I should publish them or not.

One ebook is around 70 pages...another is about 50 pages...and the third is around 26 pages, more of a guide...I don't know if Kindle cares about length...I think it's more about the content...is it good...does it interest people?

That is really awesome. I recently got interested in Kindle books and read some stuff by Will Clark He has some WSO's on writing Kindle books. You might want to check out his methods of promoting your books. Very interesting.

    Keep up the good work.

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a Warrior named Bob. He was sad. And frustrated. You see, Warrior Bob spent every last nickel on Internet Marketing e-books. But nothing panned out. No traffic. No sales. He was one sad Bob. Then one day Bob found a bottle. He rubbed it and out came a Genie who granted him 3 wishes. For Wish #1 Bob asked for a pet Dragon. Wish Granted. For Wish #2, Bob wanted Warriors' websites seen by 53 million TV viewers, for under $5 per broadcast. The Genie said... (click here)

Keep at it. There's no question that the Kindle platform presents an excellent opportunity for many people and the more titles you put out, the more you'll see what sells well and what doesn't.

You can do all the right digging up front in search of a perfect niche and topic, but nothing is more valuable than the actual up-to-the-minute sales data Amazon provides for steering you in profitable directions.

What's interesting is that sales tend to increase month after month, without any extra effort on your part. Very cool!

Forgive me for throwing in a random question:

For those who publish Kindle books, do you make use of pictures in your work or do you publish without in a "novel" style?

You're doing brilliantly. It will take time to get traction.

Are you referencing the first book in your next books? (In the following books, as well as in the description.)

Your aim should be to get a higher ranking for your first book, with the next ones you post.

Eventually, because you keep referencing book #1, it will improve in the rankings, dragging your other books with it.

You said "all deal with relationships" -- that's ideal. For your first ten books, stick with one topic area if possible.

Then you can work on topic area #2.

Re promotion, join Kindle Boards if you haven't already done so: Kindle Boards - Index

You should also promote at least one book via KND: Free Kindle Books, Kindle Tips, News & Commentary | Kindle Nation Daily |

I'd suggest also that you build a list.

For each topic area you cover, create a blog, in order to get signups -- people who are interested in that topic.

Yes, creating a list is a slow process. However, it will help you in the months and years to come.

Good luck, 25 sales is great. From tiny acorns... :-)

It could be a good thing if you are getting a positive return on your investment. Are you getting some good positive feedback from your buyers?

You've made a great start. Once you have a seller then it should keep going for years. That is real passive income.

I promote some of my books with a dedicated website that points to my amazon listing. It depends on the subject of the book.

I list some of my books on createspace and sell a paperback version as well.

Good luck with your new titles

Congrats on being a successful Kindle publisher. Certainly take advatnage of the Barnes & Noble platform.

If you have eBooks that are selling well, turn them into a paperback and use a Print On Demand service like Lightning Source or CreateSpace.

A good standout cover always ups those sales!

    Best,

That's a great advice... especially because I found out that paperback books are selling better than Kindle books, at least for me... so if you have a "winner" on Kindle, don't think too much before releasing a paperback version too...

I think it's an excellent start!

If you have not done this already, make sure you have a page in your book that links to your blog, website, or about the author along with an email sign up form.
