Hi guys, i am thinking of starting a recipe site and i ve got plenty recipes(free ones gotten online) around but problem is i cant cook to save my life and have no idea what these recipes taste like.is it then proper to paste these recipes on my site with a little tweaking cos of duplicate content and let my visitors try them out?in addition to that i was thinking of adding the benefits of each ingredients healthwise to make my articles a little more unique.would that work? Thanks.

    Hi man

Recipe site is a nice idea, however, how long have you been involved in the internet marketing side of things? I am a bit of a health and food nut myself, and I have seen absolutely no shortage of large "authority" sites out there doing the two things you are suggesting. Although there isn't as many, I'm pretty sure I've seen sites that give you nutritional break-downs of meal recipes as well.

If you are a newbie, it would do you some good getting some practise and gaining an understanding of it all through practising on some smaller projects of your own; perhaps delving into affiliate or adsense stuff to at least gain a better understanding of what you're up against. Many people start internet marketing full of enthusiasm and then get deflated when it's working out any time soon (happened to me and wouldn't want it to happen to you).

If you are still going to go for it, perhaps think about focusing on what your unique selling point is. Perhaps you could create a site that searches things in a counter intuitive way such as having a kind of alpha numeric search for recipes. Example, you could type in meals with a particular percentage of protein along with carbohydrates for low-protein diets, low-fat diets or search recipes that have high vitamin c content etc. Wow I'm a genius, that would be awsome.

As far as the duplicate content idea goes, you could probably get away with it if you were careful. However, if google recognised it as duplicate content you may find it very difficult to rank highly for it (google often chooses only one or two of the articles to show). I think I would maybe have issues with the ethics of that if I was to do it.

If you are going to steal recipes I would suggest you steal them from actual paper books. I used to do this myself when I was experimenting with article marketing for backlinks etc. Rather than copying off of a copy of a copy of a copy of an article I would just paraphrase and copy stuff out of a book that didn't exist online. There are sooo many books out there that nobody will ever get chance to read. Check out second hand shops especially. The quality of the content is so much better when taken from books and it is original (at least on the web).

Please don't take what I say as gold advice though, I am by no means an expert and I am still learning things at the moment. Someone else will probably have something better to say.

    Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

If you don't know anything about recipes then you can outsource the process and pay someone else to write these articles for you. You can go on to elance or odesk to find people who would be willing to do anything you ask.

    I agree with techlunatic here.

It is great when you are an expert in what you are writing about. It will be easier for you to promote your website coz if it's really good people will find it and tell their friends, friends will tell their friends and so on. But that scheme is good when your website is your hobby and you don't plan to make money on it.

But when you are working with websites for money making soon you'll get used to work with content you are not fully confident in.

Birdman..maybe i should mention that this is tailored for a group of people with a specific health problem so its kind of like a more targeted recipe site.

hehe well then that makes a lot more sense to me now. It sounds a lot more viable. I heard of something similar to that once. It was called the prostate cancer recipe book or something. That could work out very well IMO, provided the competition is low enough and there is enough searches.

From what I have noticed, there are already plenty of sites like the one you are thinking of setting up. I've found plenty of free recipes all over the internet. How would you earn money from this site?
