100+ Visitors A DAY = *NO* Sales

I have this weight loss website now for over a year I would say, maybe more I've forgotten . It's ranking strongly at 3rd in Google for quite sometime now.

I'm getting 100+ organic visitors a day. My site, How To Shrink Belly Fat is about weight loss and is basically a review site for the top ClickBank products.

I'm just wondering why I haven't been getting any sales, not even one? My goal is at the minimum, 1 sale a day. Not too much to ask right?

I've done my research and I've found out that review sites tend to convert better than normal sites. I had the contents all outsourced. The only thing I did was the SEO.

So from what you see on my site what do you think needs to be changed?

I'm kinda desperate right now since the site is basically wasting money. I don't want to sell it because I have a feeling it has the potential to make daily sales.

So please any positive and progressive help to get sales would be greatly appreciated.

You need more traffic sources than just SEO alone. Do you have a small budget for promotion?

Yep, but problem is I got banned from Google Adwords. I'm with 7search now but I've heard their traffic doesn't convert that well.

    • How targeted is the traffic you are getting? If you don't know, install Google Analytics and see where it is coming from. Online Marketing is just a sales funnel basically.

If you can get targeted traffic, who want what you are offering them, you will make sales. If you get traffic that are simply browsing, you won't. Focus on that for now.

I looked into it via the sites own built in analytic tool. Most traffic is just coming from random long tail keywords. Not really targeted huh?

To be honest I have zero sale to this site. Absolutely nada. So I guess my true conversion rate is 0.

Good point with the aff links. I was thinking of adding call to actions every couple of paragraphs that go something like this... "Try it for your self here..." or "Download your copy here..."

      Any thoughts?

how long has it been pulling 100 a day? where are your visitors landing and are they coming from highly targeted organic searches? how the buy arrives and what they searched to get there is a huge part of the equation

For over half a year now I suppose... Well most traffic comes from random long tail keywords (Google, Bing, Yahoo). Some comes from Stumble Upon.

Most of the traffic lands on the the articles not on the actual review pages. So I suppose I'm getting "free info hunters" instead of people who have their credit cards out and ready, right?

How can I change that? The keywords for the review pages are WAY too competitive.

Because it's designed in a bad way. You should install wordpress and put the reviews like posts with 3 aff links in each review.

If you don't change the way you put the articles and reviews , the conversion rate will be very very low.

I wish it was in Wordpress, but its my very first site I've build. I built it using SBI (Site Build It) So design isn't as free as WP.

Thanks for the honesty Andrew, I'm working with CPA right now with a different site. CPA IMO is way easier I'm getting free conversions almost on a daily basis. So it's no biggie if this site fails, I'll probably convert it to a CPA site or Adsense site like you mentioned.

But thank you I did learn that, it does matter where and how a buyer gets to my site from you. It's so obvious but I still missed it .

This is your big problem! If you can over come this by building trust you'll start making money. I've made quite a lot of money selling weight loss products from clickbank so please take this onboard and you'll start making money.

      1. How many opt ins do you get per day? I'm guessing it's pretty low. You need to change the subscribe box to a more benefit related copy and give people an irresistible free offer to get them signed up. So for example write a report: "How I lost 10lbs in 14 days free report" or something like that. You can even just buy PLR and use that if you're short on time. Try to go for a "my journey" type of angle.

However, it's essential you bake your own personality into the emails and the report. Have a pic of you (or a model) and talk about your own weight loss journey and how you came to create this website. They will buy from you when they trust you.

Write follow up emails that are friendly and give really useful weight loss tips as well as telling real life stories of weight loss. Write it like you would write to a friend and only reference the ebooks - dont hard sell.

      2. You MUST have an 'about me' page that rocks! Talk about why you will be the person to help them and what you'll help them achieve. Talk about your own struggles and how you ended up making the site. (because you love helping people of course). Make the 'about me' very easy to find. Affiliate marketing is all about building a relationship and right now by looking at your site I don't know whether you're male or female.

      3. Have an opt in box after every article and on the 'about me' page and after every review. If someone has bothered to read your article to the bottom they definitely value your content. Give them the chance to subscribe right there.

      4. This is one of the biggest conversion secrets you will ever put into action, and hardly anybody is doing it. In your first follow up email write:

"It would be great if you could reply to this email
and tell me what you're struggling with right now.
Even if it's something really small, don't
hesitate. I will reply personally and help you in
      any way I can."
      (Derek Halpern)
Of course change this to match your niche. Then match their response with a product and *BiNgO*

      5. I read one of your reviews and it just seemed too good to be true. Go and read through some reviews on Amazon and see how real reviews are written. Most people have pros and cons. The trick is to include some cons without them being too bad to put the reader off. So say "the program promises you'll lose 14lbs in 14 days but I only lost 10lbs."

There must be a ton of weight loss stuff on Amazon so use the reviews on there to craft a review/story that helps you to hit your prospects emotional hot buttons over and over again. Weight loss is an emotional subject so forget logic, people will buy because of their emotional response.

      6. Video! Just hearing a voice will build instant trust. You can use CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software which is free and talk over a power point presentation on something. Maybe get a cool intro done on Fiverr.com.

Hope that helps! Just drive them to that opt in anyway you can and make them your friend before recommending a product.

I wold suggest you to try for targeted traffic. My belief is that Social Media sites traffic is not good for conversion as people joins Facebook, Twitter etc to express themselves and get connected with others. They don't remember credit card even good offer comes in their way. It is not their fault. They are in different mood at that point. You said that you are getting traffic from Stumbleupon also. My experience is that when I put my new posts link at Stumbleupon same day or next day I get 30-40 visitors, but all are just stumblers! I think you got my point. Though you are getting 100 visitors per day, I recommend you to analyze it and make new strategy.

Yeah I used social media traffic for my CPA site, its free and works great. I figured it would also work with this site but it was a fail .

My plan to get more, "non-social" traffic is just create more content.

One Word.. WOW ! Jimmy this is the stuff you get off of $199 WSO. Big thanks for these useful advice. Looks like I have a lot over hauling to do.

Jimmy, quick question though, when you say put up an "about me" page is putting up my own personal story okay? Since I was a little kid I did struggle with weight issues but I took control and lost the weight.

Should I just bare it all and just come out like some other marketers, for example, Lisa from "2 Create A Website"?

        Thank you so much!

That would be a great idea. One guy I've learned a lot from is someone called Seth Goddin. He says that people relate to any information best when it's told in the form of a story.

So tell your story, but dont get bogged down in detail, and make sure that even though it's your story you make it about the reader and what they can learn from it.

          Here's something that may help:

Seth's Blog: Ode: How to tell a great story

but don't get worry about gettting it exactly right.

          Happy to help.

I'd like to echo 3000. Wow, Jimmy that's quite a powerful explanation. I love what you said about video. In fact, if I could add anything it might be to build the video around what you mentioned in point five.

Because video is so personal building an emotional story into video can do so much more than text. It's certainly something to consider. And I also like what Jimmy said about using a strong personal appeal in your first auto response email.

        Hope that helps, take care!

I really like that advice. I think that is the way I made my first sales quickly without knowing anything about IM. I realised that the more personal I got the more sales I got. People like to feel as though you genuinely care. Obviously it's easier if you do and you are passionate about what you are writing about. I have this mantra that I keep close. Build the relationship, build the business. People do not buy unless they trust you (this trust is at the subconcious level).

Not all affiliate networks allow that. So make sure you check with your network before you do something like that.

When it comes to keywords, and how people get to your sites, you might want to see if you can find some keywords that have actual product names in them to target. If a person is searching for something like "product name review" or "product name scam" that person is already much more interested in buying the product than some one who just searches for "weight loss tips".

So maybe you could look for products that are so popular that there are people searching for it by name and then start targeting the keywords people use to search for info about that product.

Why not benefit another way from the visitors you're getting by building a subscribers list? You can later contact your subscribers list at regular times, providing them with additional information, making them offers, etc.

      Hi 3000,

As mentioned before, this is a pretty sceptical market and you are trying to sell ebooks that are normally much more expensive than actual books, so your copy has to be spot on.

If I owned your site, here are a few things that I would try:

      1) Change the Pic on the front page.

I haven't worked in weight loss so I don't really know what the hot buttons are but my gut feeling about people typing "shrink belly fat" is that they aren't that fat. The fact that they are targeting the "belly" means that they are relatively happy with the rest of their body, but they want to shrink the belly part. So take out the really fat pic and put one more likely to be similar to your target audience. (Also, your before and after has to be realistic. Your current one, although might be true, just doesn't look realistic. Your visitors are going to write you off as a scam. Sorry to be harsh)

      2) Pick a Gender

As I said earlier your copy has to be spot on. Men and Women want to lose weight for different reasons. You will alienate some of your visitors by picking a gender but you will relate much more to the rest. You need a certain level of connection to make a sale and in this industry I would be surprised if you could do that appealing to both Genders. A quick look at amazon.com suggests that the books for "shrink belly fat" are targeted at women. Might need a bit more research. So, if you go for women, take out the pics of the men.

      3) Change Home Page

I would change your home page to include mini reviews of your product in order of quality. Make sure you have a Clear Winner. Without a clear winner you are confusing the visitor. They can't decide which book is best so they buy none. You want to do the work for them, so they don't have to. Most people scan websites and take what they want from it. They are not going to sit and read all your reviews and then make a reasoned decision on the matter. Make that decision for them (for example, choose the book with the lowest refund rate. That way you know that it is actually going to help them)

      4) Opt in bait

You need to give the visitor a reason to opt in. Pick up some PLR and offer them something.

      5) Copy

Go to amazon and find the books/products that are most relevant to your visitors. Find out the hot buttons that the best selling products are using and use them in your copy. I noticed you used health on your home page. For me that would not be what I would use. People looking to lose belly fat are more likely to be motivated by vanity rather than health.

Anyway, I have gone on for long enough. Hope this helps

This is in my opinion the best thing you coudl do here. Make a free gift offer related to shrink belly fat - that they can't pass up. Get building the list and you can market other CB or affliate products to them within the weight loss market. Make sure you continue to provide good content.

Yup, already doing that. I've gotten an opt-in box above the fold on every page I get a few here and there. Nothing to brag about though...

    Nice looking site.
The keywords you're targeting could just be bringing tire kickers.
at least you have a sign up form on your blog. I would word the verbage to be more compelling than what you have now. More detail about exactly what they are going to get.
I would also suggest an exit pop up too offering a valuable freebie.
And putting some advertising on there as well as the products you're trying to sell.

"Tire Kickers" for sure, I've concluded that yeah the keywords that the searchers are mostly that of people who just want free info.

I will definitely take your advice Gary of changing the verbiage. Once I get my other site in order.

Why not change the site into one big squeeze page, offer a free ebook to increase opt-ins. Your site is a "how to" site and if you offer a free ebook that provides a solution you will get a lot of subscribers, then like any email marketing campaign, send high value emails to your list interspersed with promotional emails.

I looked into that but there's a lot of my competition with the same main keywords doing that strategy. I just wanted something that was different but still helped that visitor.

One word: credibility. Thats why you don't make any sales. As soon as you give visual credibility to the site, it will convert something. From there you can tweak everything from top to bottom, including sales copy.

Since you're asking for honest reviews, here it goes ..

Many overweight people find the word "fat" offensive - Instant turn off

The sales copy is terrible! it's obvious that it was written by someone other than an English speaking person

    The photos are disturbing ...

Sorry to sound so harsh but....you asked

Maybe you should take the time to write the sales copy yourself and choose more socially acceptable wording

    Just sayin ..

Nope you weren't harsh at all . Your right I totally over looked the wording. I should of read the articles more closely. The girl I outsource the content to is actually from Canada, but I'll give other writers a look at.

Totally forgot how the word "fat" could be offensive. I used to just hate hearing the word "fat" when I was heavier myself. Good catch and thank you.

A good Call To Action will make you the first sale.

You don't have to change anything else to make your first sale. Just instruct your visitor to a product. You are giving them too many choices and your content is really very long.

Once after the 2nd para like "Click Here To Reduce Belly Fat In 1 Minute" (joke, obviously). Put a call to action that will take the user to the affiliate site.

Each article should promote 1 product. If you confuse the visitor he will obviously not even bother to click. So stop providing him with too many links (options).

Do make this change and tell me about your first sale.

    Good Luck!

great job on the inner link building but that won't make any sales

your affiliate link should be your first link in your article put it "above the fold" and definitely put a call to action saying click here .

Like mentioned above just make it easier for people to find your offer.

    what I would do
    1) put one affiliate link in the first sentence , somewhere in the middle body and near the end
2)all those inner links you have pointing to your other post put them at the every end of your articles saying something like more related articles below

Before you invest in advertising, since you're getting 100 visitors a day 1st focus on at least a 1% conversion rate. You have to change some things around until you can get at least 1% conversion.

Don't despair I've had sites with the same problem and I kept tweeking and observing over and over again until I increased my conversions to as much as 8% and higher. Don't give up - just change. I'll look at your site and make suggestions.

But I must say I've hadn't had much success with the Click Bank health products either. I do much better seeking out people who don't know IM or affiliate marketing but have great expertise or books, and then creating my own unique affiliate programs with them. I say be proactive and create you own affiliate or revenue share programs so you're not competing with thousands of other affiliates. Just my 2 cents.

Very motivating to hear that, 8% wow that's crazy! If I had a 8% I could seriously quit my day job and do this full time (my dream ). You know funny thing is I was just thinking of creating my own product.

The only thing that's holding me back is the new learning curve with learning how to create pdf files. Create ebooks. Sales page. Creating a copy that sales. Etc

But I guess it has to be done.

That is pretty decent traffic, it is the conversion that is the problem and by looking at your site it is quite easy to see why.

Your sites lacks the visual appearance or the hype for an individual to actually buy the product. I think you should go about placing some testimonials, some images of the products you're attempting to sell and huge red colored buy now buttons on the website.

Also - if I think it would be worth placing some adsense ads so that you can monetize a partial amount of the website and not letting all that traffic go to waste.

okay the sales may be good... moreover what i can see is the website itself has a PR2... means the sight might be getting a good traffic... but have tried to analyze what are the visitors doing at your site?... are they just going through the stuff or are they the potential buyers?... potential buyers will lurk around a 100 places for the same stuff... before buying it out... they can also be some vague visitors there just to read what you write about that product, or whats you gotta say,.... irrespective of the fact that they are not here to buy... convincing someone to buy can at times be really tedious... it is only the courses/WSOs/CB products/etc that claim, in their sales pitch that making money by selling someone's else's product is very simple.

        Thanks

OK after I looked at your site I would have to say I would never try to make money with such a site. Too many clicks to get to the buy links, too much scrolling, it just doesn't appear to be a site proactively about selling.

    I would do to things:

    1. Find sites making money doing health product reviews from Click Bank products. The best way to do this is observe the ones advertising in some form (Over a LONG period of Time - a month or more) because they have to have ROI to continue to advertise.

    2. Use a different design format. I sell products from reviews too but I create a large content portal for targeted industries and keywords. I show the pictures and strong sales like copy with links to the reviews above fold and very in your face for products I'm selling.

The present site you have in my experience wouldn't sell very much. These are my comments based on years of sales and revenue generation online. Sorry.

Fun Weight Loss keyword according to Google Keyword Adword Tool has 3,600 global monthly searches for what looks to be your priority keyword. I don't see your site on the first page of Google or at Yahoo for "Fun Weight Loss" ... your conversions will definitely improve if you get that keyword.

The problem I saw with your website was:
    - Not so easy to find your affiliate link
    - It seems you're not targeting the correct keywords/key phrases to get ideal paid clients mate...

Of course, more info required to make a proper conclusion. The more the better. But the above will help give you some quick ideas on 'reasons why' for the low conversion rates. Do remember that July is also a slow sales month, and if those offers you're promoting don't have a good conversion rate it will definitely slow sales a lot more this month.

I'll work on improvement of the overall structure and design of your reviews and work on your copy editing with some adjustments to see starting conversions. I'm sure this will help.

you could install woopra and find out where your traffic is from.

you could increase traffic by using press releases and hope for a conversion.

otherwise you could try SEOing for more keywords which also increases traffic.

If your site is new, you probably need to wait a while for to see your conversions.

    Hope it helps!

75% commission of $0 is $0. You can offer more than one type of product on your blog. The type of people that may be interested in the info products are the same ones that may be interested in the supplements.

    Hey 3000,

No offence to SBI but get rid of it - I'm not sure if much has changed but it's let down by the design limitations. I had a sucky looking site with them and to make it look nicer I just added html manually..before finding out about Wordpress and slapping myself when realising how easy it would have been to have a beautiful looking site/blog.

Not a barb to SBI as that was where I got my start and learned the ropes..but there really is a time where you outgrow it and start playing with the big boys (and girls )

Also - Another vote for Jimmy and Peter! Awesome, awesome advice! I'm starting to realise that video gives you a face and people trust a face over text.

"Hype" isn't the right word here.

Here's the 3 key factors that are working against you:

    1) The key point you're trying to make is these are 'real honest reviews' yet it's very obvious that the 'before/after' pictures are stock photos of two different people. This makes the site lose all it's credibility as an 'authority site'

    2) People who are coming to your site from an organic search are looking for an answer to their problem "how to shrink belly fat". That being said, I don't think they're looking for reviews - it's your job to show them that you have the answer to their fat-burning questions or they'll simply click away.

    3) As someone else pointed out - your affiliate links are 'hidden' (meaning not easy to find) On top of that, the first link on your home page is broken "The Truth About Six Pack Abs Review".

Before you ponder this further, start by figuring out how to appeal to the desires of your visitors. Give them tidbits of the information they're seeking like breadcrumbs that lead to the product you're promoting.

    Best wishes

It might help to mask your affiliate links.

For such a subject like that, I would go for more targeted traffic such as PPC and test out your landing page. That might've been the reason why your not getting any sales becuase of your lander.

I'm going to try to keep this positive, but it's going to be tough.

There's not a whole lot right about this site if you want to sell product.

The call to action for the opt-in is weak. The language on the home page screams "I want to sell you something."

The actual reviews are superficial, without enough believable benefit to generate clicks.

The articles are fair to mediocre and broken up with multiple Adsense blocks, which screams "I'm just in it to make a buck - so click on something, anything, pleeeaassse..."

There are two really positive things, though.

    1. You actually got off your arse and did something.

    2. You now know one combination of things which does not work for you.

If people are landing on the articles, your job is to get them to the reviews. Try killing the Adsense and replacing it with links to the reviews.

Then start tweaking the reviews to get clicks to the sales pages.

As an affiliate, your job is not to sell the products. Your job is to sell the reader on clicking through to the next step in the process.

Once you make a few sales, you may want to invest in an editor to clean up the writing on your reviews and articles.

    Good luck to you...

Definitely a great thread- I definitely stole Jimmy's idea of asking the client what they're struggling with in the VERY first email.
