Does a WSO thread still last 3 weeks before it is removed ?

I can't see any mention of this in the rules.

I don't know about the 3 weeks rule but a have heard about the 6 page rule, once it pass the sixth page, it will be deleted. Anyway WSO are moving off faster than ever before

My experience says that the '6 page rule' has always been more implemented than the 3 week rule. Perhaps this is because my WSOs always seemed to be around for more than 3 weeks, , , it might be because I posted WSOs during a slower period, hence my WSO didnt go past page 6 in the allotted 3 weeks.

I would suspect though, that if there were TONS of WSOs being posted that the WSO forum would go beyond 6 pages if particular WSOs got beyond page 6 in under a 3 week period

    Hi Harvey,

Sales are pretty much dead after the second week anyway, in fact, after the first week, they
seem to tail off sharply. Nobody wants to look deeper than the second page. Shame really,
because they miss out on some great deals. WSO's have been known to go up to about 7 to
8 pages before they fall off the end. So in theory you could last longer than 3 weeks in slow
WSO posting times, but I suspect, not much longer.

I know that doesn't directly answer your question directly, but hopefully it'll help a little.

Since you can adjust how many posts show on each post from within your user CP, from what I have heard anyway, I don't think the page rule will have as much weight on the new forum software.

I noticed that using the forum defaults there are now 10 pages of WSO's.

Looking at some stats in my WSO Tracker database, only a total of 16 WSOs have been deleted since the new forum was released.

Also, based on the date these WSOs were created, it doesn't seem that the date they were posted has any bearing on when they were deleted, suggesting that they were deleted because the seller requested their removal.

Time will tell - or Allen will respond to this thread!

Once your WSO leaves page 2 its basically a wrap when it comes to sales.
In the old forum we could bump it once it reached page 3 but now we have to start a whole new thread which kinda stinks because if you have a hot WSO thread you basically lost that one and need to start from scratch.

I actually haven't even figured out what the duration is yet. We're still working on the bumping mod. Should be done today or tomorrow...

If I get the bumping mod done and working ok it'll go back to being like it was on the old forum...

Now that'll be fantastic...no more having to start again from scratch + social proof!

That will be good news, and will hopefully take care of all the crazy reposts.

I am surprised there is not some simple way to do this in vBulletin already, or a mod that already exists. But then again, I can see how it would be complicated from the perspective of updating the database and having vBulletin manage it nicely.

Hopefully you can get it all working. If it doesn't work out right, let me know and I might have some ideas for you.

The constant reposting has gotten crazy - and bumping was also abused by some. Good to know it's being worked on.

Maybe it's too simplistic, but I've wondered why WSO's run so long if they are only effective for a few days. If a WSO ran for only 7-10 days with no reposting till they expire, or with bumping after a certain number of days allowed, seems like it would result in a cleaner WSO section and easier management of it.

Perhaps limiting by date or number of days could be done by forum software and avoid the arguments about what page someone is on when they bump.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

That sounds like a reasonable approach, Kay.

I do think that "bumping" based on what page it is on is probably less relevant with the new forum software, since we can sort the forum any way we like.

Perhaps there could be a 3-day window when a post could be bumped, before it is deleted. Say, the post stays up for a total of 10 days, and after 7 days it can be bumped.

It is very easy for vBulletin to delete posts after a certain number of days, as I am sure Allen is aware. The issue is modifying it so it can be bumped back to the top. Obviously, this can be done by modifying the original thread start date (as was done on the old forum), but I imagine the difficult part is automating the payment and processing when someone chooses to bump their thread.

              What do you think, Allen?

Yep Allen comes through again. I liked the bumping, sure made it easier to keep track of my WSO's and when I could run them again.

I still say it is the cheapest form of advertising we can get.

I agree about the sales falling off sharply, but I have found that by posting in topics related to my WSO, I continue to get sales from my sig file linked to the WSO. I average 2 or more sales a day.

            Just my 2 cents worth.
