Cleaning up old lists?

Hey all,

I have some old lists that I haven't used in a couple of years. They were people that originally opted in, but it's been so long I'm sure that many of the addresses are incorrect now or their opinions or thoughts have changed.

So, I'm interested in the best, most legal way to clean and re-label the lists. I'm thinking about sending an email with a "new opt in request" that lists a few options of things they're familiar and interested in (with an incentive to fill out the form) and has them check them off.

Any thoughts or experience with doing this? Any reasons I shouldn't try to clean up this list and get it ready for use again?

    You can try to salvage the list in a few ways.

    A series of emails to the lists with an incentive to re-opt-in should work for those still interested in what you have to offer.

    I would make that apart of my business to send reopt-ins. That way I know the value of my list and keep those customers. One day they will buy if I continue to do followups.
