Has Paypal been hacked?

Just tried to go to paypal and I am being redirected to

https://www.paypal.com/ro

Romania.

Does anyone else get this? I show nothing in my virus scan and I've erased all cookies.

Is this just advertising from Paypal for a new country? Afraid to enter my password now.

        Hi,

Check the plugins and add-ons in FireFox.

Disable all of them and see whether you still go to /ro. Could be it.

If it still does, then get this small software called MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

        Do a scan.

Perhaps it's something inside of YOUR computer. Do you have a good antivirus program on it?

    I'm running a second scan.

Also I notice when I go to Paypal in IE it resolves just fine. The problem looks to be only in Firefox.

I've been having all kinds of trouble with paypal recently. I haven't been redirected to another countries page but almost every time I make a payment I get these annoying security checks where they make me change my password and at one stage even restricted my account until I did a credit card verification. I'm getting extremely annoyed.

I have to agree. It won't let me pay for a WSO, so I don't get to be apart of it... This is so frustrating.

This sounds like a typical browser hyjack. Find Hyjackthis, just search it. Its free and extensive. Post your findings on their forums and EXPERIENCED people will help you fix any problems they find.

Check your browsers language settings and see if maybe that got changed. PayPal may be looking at that setting to determine what page to show.

Paypal redirects to your country-specific page. I type www,paypal.com and it goes to www,paypal.com/ph. It's perfectly normal.

My language is english as well. I'm in the U.S. but was still redirected to /ro.

I just switched it back to the U.S. using Paypal's drop down menu. I'll see how long it holds. I last logged in a couple of days ago -- no problems. This all just seemed to start today/tonight.

This typically happens when you buy a product from someone in that country.

    Nothing to worry about.

That's interesting hoot. This may be the case. I did attempt to purchase a product in Euros a couple of days ago. Never went through with it, but its quite possible that was it.

PayPal has been all kinds of weird for me lately.

The main page with payments received and sent has had a weird glitch where the same event is repeated on multiple lines.

I've had recurring customers charged twice in the same month, being reported as "Skipped Payments".

My recurring billing agreement being canceled for no reason multiple times.

On top of it, their support is useless.

PayPal is a fantastic service when working, but lately its been a trying experience.

My payal is fine. You should get a virus software from zonealarm like Internet security suite. I've been using it for years. Many financial institutions use it and trust it.

It's easy, clear your browser history, caches, and cookies. Try to go to paypal now. I bet it's no longer redirecting to another country.

Cheers I already did that - I'm not too concerned as the green ssl cert is still paypal just weird

@designtoconvert yeah that's what I am doing and it auto redirects

@chris I'll try and do that will figure it out in the morning as it seems I'm not alone with this issue thanks for the advice - I have a direct number too for paypal I'll have to dig that out

@mike I use and develop code that uses geo tech too and i know my ip is showing correct country against maxmind - like you said it could be their side having a couple of issues a blip in the matrix lol

Am a web developer and a bit of a techie so am pretty familiar with caching, cookies, proxies etc just very bizarre

Same thing is happening with ClickBank. Wherever they are getting their GEO data from (I think it's called that) is the problem. This is so they can redirect to your own countries currency when you go to buy something. Nothing to worry about, just make sure you change the currency before you buy something

Have you tried contacting Paypal to see what their opinion of this is? - You could also take a screenshot of this and have it as evidence to provide to them.

They will have a dept that deals with this all of the time and they might already be aware if there are any issues to worry about.

Also go get the malwarebytes and do a full scan!
