I just registered a domain name. I was searching for a short 2 keyword phrase with a relatively high global search volume and I think I got a good one for selling resale products.

forresell(dot)com = 550,000 global monthly searches according to google kw tool!

What do you think? I was thinking I got lucky to snatch up this domain name.

Unfortunately you were looking at the broad match figures.

The exact match figures for "for resell" are <10.

This is a very common mistake. If you find a keyword that seems to have incredible search volume, then always, always check you are looking at the exact match results.

I'm in Canada so I don't know if Google is showing me the correct Global search because I only get 3600 for resell and zero for forresell. Did you do an exact match search?

Also it depends on what you want to use the website for because I would think that most of the searches for resell are for folks looking for ebooks with resell rights.

Don't get hung up on having the keyword in the domain name. Yes it helps a little to tell Google what your site is about, but if you can't find one just think of all the big webite's out there that do not have a keyword in their name EG Google, Bing, Youtube, CNN, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter etc etc.

    • Yip, never ever use broad to determine how much traffic you can expect. Always use Exact. This is a much better indication. Sorry

I looked at global and local for the two keywords not grouped together. So exact match would be "forresell" and not "for resell"?

    • No, exact match would be 'for resell' but if you tick the 'exact match' box.
It will then look like this in the tool [for resell].

This means that this is the number of times people are typing only those two words exactly like that into google. Broad could be thousands of variations on those two words E.g. resell rights, for sale, toys for you.

      Always use exact.

Okay............ I just went back to the keyword tool.......... And checked for this exactly "for-resell" and I got the same = 550,000 global monthly searches and 360,000 local monthly searches.

So believe it or not, I got lucky and it was available to. So I got for-resell(dot)com
