The first step to starting your online business...

The first step to starting your online business is to ask yourself what would you be happy doing. You might find a very profitable method of making money online, but if it doesn't make you happy, then is it really worth doing?

I have fallen into that trap before and it is a losing battle. You're better off working a nine to fiver. At least there you get to be with other people that also hate what they are doing.

    I totally agree on this.

When i had just started i focused on the weight loss niche for 5 months and really hated what i was doing.

Pure IM niche is really what i like doing

    Cheers,

      Solid advice.

I think at the very start you are excited by the prospect of making money any which way you can online and you don't mind the grind of it or even notice it, but after a certain period you begin to get a tad jaded and I think thats when you need to be in something that doesn't make you want to cry when you hear your laptop boot up.

While I'm in this thread, bought your Google news WSO last year EBR. One of the top returns I have ever had on a wso too. Tip of the hat.

I already told you nobody wants to buy my sand art online. Plus it doesn't ship very well.

At least there you get to be with other people that also hate what they are doing.
But, you also have to ask yourself whether you want to be surrounded by those people. I mean, being surrounded by people who also hate what they do might forever hold you back from moving into something you might not hate doing simply do to all the negativity, whereas working alone at something you hate doing might be more of a motivating factor to find something you love doing, without others beating you down about it.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Sometimes, deep is good, just depends if you can climb back up.

That's a very good point! That's precisely why it took me so long to get started, I wanted to be sure of exactly what it is I wanted to do

I agree. When I first started I got into one niche that I had interest in and the others I was just getting into because the keyword research had GO-GO-GO written all over them.

Guess which niche most of my sites that get the most attention today are in?

It's a chore to write content for a niche you don't really care about. On the contrary I find it quite enjoyable to write and find products to promote for the niche and sub-niches I really have an interest in.

Direct response is the only business model I like. No relationship marketing, either you buy, or, you don't. The problem is many will tell you, you need relationship marketing, and, direct response marketing is dead unless you are into infomercials.

Some people get caught up doing too much at once - stick to one thing, do it and continue to upscale your efforts. Don't do too much at once or you'll fall into that information overload again.

I agree that you do have to be happy at doing something if you want to make it long term but money could be enough of a motivating factor at least for a couple years. What someone likes to do may not be in demand so you have to have a plan B. Thanks
