Wow, I came here to ask why all my Google places sites are suspended. I have done nothing out of the ordinary, but when I went to the admin panel of google places I had to click to try and re instate them, and it says they will review it over the next few weeks.

I think something might be stuffing up in the google machinery.

What do you mean they are suspended? Are they gone completely from google places and not able to be viewed or can you see them when you search for them?

OK - I have four websites/ businesses that I have google place listings I created. When I went to the admin screen to check out why I was not listed in my usual searches for local terms such as 'dog walkers melbourne' I found that google had a problem with each site (EACH OF THEM, NOT JUST A ONE OFF ISSUE).

SO I clicked a button to get them re instated, and it just came up with a message saying it would take up to a few weeks to review!?!

I just checked the admin screen again and the ***** (my self edit) have said that each one was REJECTED and that they NEED ATTENTION. What crock is this? They are just normal websites for real businesses. they are not affiliate sites or junk sites.

So i clicked the EDIT button on each one and there were no warning messages for the content I had on most of these admin pages????

except one: "Please correct the following error(s):
        • Select at least 1 category that matches suggestions as you type"

which is bizarre as I had about five entries still showing on the page, that have been valid for the last three years. i delete all categories, add one by one whatever, but it wont allow me to save the page.

        G**GLE YOU ARE ****ED

soooo I went to my gmail account (that I never use) and it gave me some more info.

it suggested (doesnt state outright) that it could be my business name. this is a conflict as it says dont add locations or generic description of what your business does BUT it also says you must use the exact real business name you have. I am Dog Walkers Melbourne - which means that my registered business name and url probably dont work with new google rules.

also my wife has as business at the same address as me (funny that) but google doesnt allow you to have multiple businesses at the same address.

it looks like they just tightened up all the rules with one foul sweep, and with no manual checking made all my entries invalid. So I had to TWEAK my listings and resubmit and now wait another week or so until I get another automated message. Gee these guys really deserve to be billionaires!

Here is a link to what might have happened the other day when everything went haywire. Google To Fix Maps Reviews Bug.

BTW, all seven of my reviews are back as of yesterday. A glitch? Who knows!

Does anyone know if there is a google support system that you can actually speak to a person live about issues that you have with google places?

well mine are all still "BEING REVIEWED" which following on from a few weeks ago when it suspended them, it is likely to take another two weeks before I get their verdict and some automated half hint email to my gmail account how I might get them back up. then I will try and tweak as the google gods request and wait another two weeks in google hell.

this leaves a very bad taste in my mouth about google. they are so big they can just do whatever they want unilaterally. makes me wish bing was bigger ...

I think you're right Bruce, something is definitely going on with google. I went to "my maps" and I can see how many reviews I had before but when I click on the map it just shows the one review that was written yesterday.

You may have recently noticed a graphical change as well to Google and also Places Listings. I think Google is just in a Places update phase and could possibly be the reason reviews were dropped etc. etc. Just inform your clients that its something beyond your control and we'll just keep working and watching whats going on.

If some listings were suspended its usually due to a violation, most likely a category or title issue.

Thanks Rus for you reply. Do you think that google will bring back my reviews. The reason I ask is, I worked hard for these reviews. What would be the use in getting your customers to write a review as long as google is going to decide on what stays and what goes.

Google is going through a lot of changes lately. I think the Google Place Page Reviews will come back, I hope so actually. I would not worry too much that you violated some kind of rule and they deleted the reviews. More people are experiencing the same thing as you right now, missing reviews. Don't worry

Thanks sandrax, I hope you're right. I have been shuffled around a lot lately with my place page but I finally made it to the first page in the #3 position last week for my search terms. Woke up this morning, my reviews were gone and I had fallen to the #4 spot. So maybe it's not as bad as it could be.

It would be nice to believe that this is just a "glitch" of some sort at Google, but ask the thousands of YouTube accounts that have been terminated in the last few weeks how temporary that "glitch" was. Or the thousands of Adwords accounts that were terminated a few months ago, or the thousands of Adsense accounts that were terminated or the thousands of Blogger blogs.....

    Need I go on?

Just curious, but when you say YOU worked hard for these reviews, were these actual customer reviews entered by the actual customers with their own Google account or were they all eb=ntered by new accounts that were made for "the customers" but not really by the customers?

A lot of people try to outsmart Google and enter reviews for their customers as opposed to unsolicited testimonials/reviews left freely by actual customers. Google is pretty smart. (Actually they are WAY smarter than smart) and will start zapping these.

Reviews that are "encouraged" and "coached" are pretty easy to tell the difference from an actual customer provided review.

Not saying this is what happened to you, I am just throwing that out there in case others see this in their search as well.

These were honest reviews, not coached or encouraged. I ask my customers if they are satisfied with the customer service we provide to leave a review on google about the experience they had with our company. We try go above and beyond what people expect to get for the money they spend having their equipment worked on.

Awesome, glad to see some people still put in honest hard work these days!!

I would say keep it up and keep moving forward while the google "glitch" works itself out.

Five of the seven reviews are back up. This is probably not a glitch! But all seven reviews were honest reviews by customers. So I don't know what google is up to. I know there is a lot of changes going on though.

Or was this done as an attempt at self promotion so people would PM you as per your signature?

update a month or so later.

There is no actual help line but I went to a help forum that people external to the company have to help you with. is this how anyone in the real world would run a business?

Anyway they asked me to provide all contact details etc I have in each listing and they will look at it, they say they are a google places expert.

So here I am waiting for my second review.

Does anyone know if google places allows you to have the same phone number for different business listings. It appears you cant have the same physical address - because of course nobody every has run more than one business from one home address, EVER, right?
