Where do i start? I want to sell services and make some quick money

I'm currently a newbe in everything, i'm willing to spend 13 hours-a-day writing high quality articles, at the best of my current skillset.

My question is... Where do i start? How can i find people willing to pay me?

What kind of services beside article-writing could i offer?

I got my first paid writing gig as a freelancer from Elance.com

There is quite a lot of people bidding for each job, but if you take your time to type a well written application for each job, that is specific to that job (not just a copy and paste application) and just come across as a reliable person then you should have a good chance.

Would also be worth getting your own website set up, with samples and testimonials when they come in, your prices etc.

That way you can contact clients directly and direct them to your website and charge prices that will earn you more money, when compared to all the really low bidding that goes on at the bidding for jobs type freelance sites.

Thanks for the reply, i'll check Elance.com, for now i'm willing to settle for anything decent, i'm not planning to write articles long term, it's just a first step for me to make some cash while still having control over my time and to improve my writing skills at the same time.

Just a friendly warning (re: the power of the written word...)

For me, personally, you started off with something that wouldn't make me trust your services: your thread title suggests you are NOT interested in offering ME the best services, you are only interested in making a quick buck for YOUrself. You don't want to serve me (as in service), you want to sell to me... and nobody likes to be sold.

Now think for a moment: you are offering your writing skills, however, you weren't able to write a positively sounding thread title that would make the reader to trust you. Do you see the irony?

    Good luck, btw!

I understand what you mean, maybe my brain works the other way around, i think everyone understands that both parties want to make money, nowadays in all this fakeness i think a little honesty wouldn't hurt but that was not the point of my thread, i'm not marketing myself, i was sincerely asking fellow members to share their experiences on how they started with me.

        Hi there FLCL (Furi Kuri?)

Welcome to the forum. I completely understand wanting to make money from your services. However, in answer to your question "where do I start" - I suggest starting by changing your mindset.

I believe Istvan was dead on.

your thread title suggests you are NOT interested in offering ME the best services, you are only interested in making a quick buck for YOUrself. You don't want to serve me (as in service), you want to sell to me... and nobody likes to be sold.
You see - he was providing you with the answer to your question.

By having the mindset of 'selling services to make a quick buck', you're setting yourself up for failure.

No one wants to hire you on the premise that you simply want to make money. Think of a job interview. When the interviewer asks "why do you want to work here" do you think they'd hire you over other applicants if you said your prime motivator was "to make money (for yourself)"?

I understand that you're writing this thread to seek help, not sell a service - but bear in mind, when you ask a public question, everyone sees it.

        Including potential clients.

And when they read that you just want to make a quick buck, they'll pass you over and hire someone who is passionate about writing, selling, designing, etc.

This is not about 'honesty.' There's nothing fake about focusing on what would benefit the person you're trying to entice. It's their money/project after all - why should they choose to pay for your services? Simply because you want to make money?

Here's your answer: Bring value. Think to yourself 'what can I do to make my (potential) client's lives easier?'

Then, set up a 'Warrior for Hire' post highlighting the value you'll bring to anyone who hires you.

Provide quality work and deliver what you promise.

You'll have more projects than you can handle.

There is a services section within the warrior forum that you can find on here.

Check it out, see what people are buying and improve and make your own.

You can post an ad in Warriors for Hire section and put a link in your signature to the ad. That's two ways. You can put up a gig at Fiverr and you can bid on projects on freelance sites like Elance, freelancer, etc.

The best and fastest ways to get some writing jobs done is probably through this warriorforum. Build a good relationship with other forum members and you will find warriors willing to pay for your services.

If you go to sites like elance.com, freelancer.com etc, you may need to compete with so many dozens of competitors. but you don't have any credibility and reviews to start off with.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    George

While I agree that you don't want to come off as "wanting to make a quick buck", I understand your concern.

You were just being honest, and explaining your situation. Nothing wrong with that... in this environment.

But as the other Warriors said, when you put up your profile/bids in elance, Fiverr, etc. just make sure you come across as wanting to provide high quality!

Hi, Great way to offer your servcies are on Freelance websites such as:

      Elance
      Freelancer
      ODesk
      Guru
      Fiverr

These websites are great to start off, although it might be slightly longer to be awarded jobs as your new to these website.

As long as you offer High Quality services are a reasonable price, you should be able to get clients.

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks

The sky is truly the limit when it comes to services online. There are literally TONS of different services you can offer.

Need some ideas? Head on over to Fiverr and see what people are doing there. Anything there that you can do or is there something you see that would be easy to offer others? Compile a list and figure out what route you want to go.

From there, I'd suggest even offering a Fiverr gig to gain some experience and feedback. Then, swing on over to the "Warriors for Hire" section, pay the $20 listing fee and offer your services at a discounted rate to bring in some new clientele in exchange for feedback and reviews. Just slowly build it from there. As long as you deliver your work in a timely manner and do a great job for the price you charge, you won't have any problems with getting work consistently.
