The Antidote For "Information Overload"- Construction Paper And Magic Markers. Step 1

Happy New Year Everyone.

The Best Thing You Can Do For Yourself in 2009 is to cure the "Information Overload Syndrome."

In a moment, I'll show you two pictures of the 'cure' that I created using construction paper and magic markers. Of course, you can't see the writing because 1.) I'm a lousy photographer and 2.) well, ok, so I don't want to give away my niches, but the visual aid might just be the "Antidote" you've been looking for.

I thought with today being January 1, 2009, this would be a good time for anyone who is resolving (or 'solving' if you are a JMO fan), to 'embrace their Internet business' or other such similiar resolutions, to start with 'filtering out the noise of Information Overload' by just looking at a very simple mind map. Nothing fancy done with software, but something as simple as construction paper and magic markers. But first,

Here's the cause of Information Overload.

You've been programmed to believe that you can exploit a method
without a model. That you can implement a strategy without a
system. That you can use a tool without technology. And still make
money.
This is a half-truth. You can 'make money' but you can't build a business on 'methods' alone. A business has to have 'legs' to stand on. Like a house, it needs a 'foundation' to rest on, support systems to hold the roof up, doors and windows for 'light,' plumbing systems for movement, electrical systems to support new technologies.

A business needs:

  • A model
  • A market
  • Systems
  • Strategies
  • Tools
  • Technologies
  • Methods

Getting into 'Internet Marketing' is seductive to
say the least. You've been told that you don't have to know anything
or have any money to start making money. And that's partly true.
If you implement the system that makes the method work, you might
be lucky enough to make a few bucks.

If you're a smart cookie you'll be able to 'leverage' those few bucks into more profitable ventures and build a business. But if not, look at these two pictures below:

A business model identifies the 'type' of business that exists within an
industry. A business model determines who your customers are. A
business model has a marketing plan defined by it's target market
and it has systems, strategies, tools and technologies for creating it's
products, services, marketing messages and for distributing those
products, services and marketing messages through defined
distribution channels.

As you can see in the picture, I have this model color coded.
In green I have two business models. You don't have to have two. I
just do. You'll understand why in a moment, but let's stay on track
for now...
I have Products on one side, and Services on the other side.
Products then has two branches on it, one for products I have
created, or own some kind of MRR or PLR to, and another branch for
products I am 'affiliated' with. These two types of products are
separately color coded so that I can easily distinguish between the
two.
Each of them falls under the same 'color' of 'Products', and each of
them also has a common color to denote the 'niche' that it would fall
under, or in the case of 'affiliate marketing,' fit in with.

Some of my 'affiliate' products fall under the same
'niche' as products I 'own.' So the book I have own in the Health
Niche, which is a depression book could also have links within the
book to my 'affiliate products' that I have a domain name for in my
'affiliate products' branch. However, as you can see in my Pets niche,
I don't have my own book on the topic, so I would only drive traffic to
that site via marketing methods and distribution channels.

The Pets niche has a different colored
'cloud' under the niche header color cloud, is because it's 'yet to be
developed'. But by using that color, I know that it is something I
want to develop.

Hey Marcus, thanks for the pointers on getting organized. I know as an IM'er I get so flustered and baffled with everything coming in.

      Hi Marcus,

      Thanks for the great info.

I downloaded your report, but when I extracted it with WinRAR, it said that the file was empty. Any other options?

Also, when I completed the optin for the free video, I was taken to the paypal login page. The sign up process does not seem to have completed properly, as I have received no follow up via email.

Can you help me get this sorted out?

      Thanks a lot,

      Kat

            Thanks Marcus,

I agree with you. Strong Business Foundations are needed if you don't want to become "addicted" to information and jump from one thing to the next, never really achieving anything.

Once you have a good structure in place you can begin to fill in the blanks with the tools, tactics and methods to take your business to the next level.

Also, it helps to keep things in perspective, and view the whole internet marketing thing as a system and not as a huge cloud of unrelated informations. It helps connect the dots and understand what you're trying to do in a much better way.

One of the best things I did was to purchase a MindMap software and organize my whole business with process maps and checklists.
It took me a while to create those, but now that I'm done, I only have to follow a set of action steps in order to get the results I'm after, without having to think about everything. It saves so much time, it's great...

Plus, it helps to free your mind, which is usually full of ideas and information from hours of reading. And if your model change, you can update the whole mindmap in just a few clicks and keystrokes.
(I think there are many free MindMapping Softwares online, just google it)

Anyway, thanks again Marcus for your post and your reports (3 of them!).
I loved your breaking down of all the levels, from the Industry to the Tools...

            Happy new year to all!

Michael! Thanks, man. Gotta keep the writers busy or they won't be there to write for me.

              Damien,

Mindmaps are AWESOME. I just wanted to bring it 'back to basics' for the newbies. A nice litte 'creative' project to get the idea of a 'science.'

They say Algebra is the basis for all higher mathematics because it teaches you how to organize your thoughts. But I seriously doubt anyone wants to me to pull out an Algebra book to teach that, LOL. (I'd probably be hunted down with pitchforks and burned at the stake if I did)

My VA, Becky is remaking it with her kids as a 'project' for the video. God knows no one wants to see my mug on their computer screen.

I just hope it helps the newb's get some 'organizational structure' about a 'business.'

We all get 'seduced' by the 'sizzle' and forget about the things like the 'model' behind the 'method.'

And with the 'information overload' frustration, I thought this would be a good tool for everyone to get thier 'technology' organized and keep their New Year's Resolutions to get thier 'business' off the ground.

The funny thing is.. I think the 'basics' of business are probably the most valuable things you need to learn to run any business.

And yet, no one would BUY this, because it doesn't have any 'dazzle' factor.

It won't put $fifty trillion in your Paypal account tomorrow, but it will gave you the 'structure' you need to know the route you are going to take to get that $fifty trillion.

              Happy New Year,
              Marcus

you're right, keeping it simple is sooo important, especially when you're just starting out, facing this huge moutain of information...and not knowing where to start.

if you MASTER the basics, you're already far ahead of the pack who is trying to keep up with the latest innovations, never really becoming very good at anything.

As for the 'dazzle' factor, I'm sure we could come up with some creative idea to make it more attractive than it seems to be (starting with not calling it 'basics' but a much more cool-sounding name...). Plus it would be easy to find proof that you can't "win" without it...

                happy weekend!
