Making the most of PLR content

When it comes to re using PLR written content, I understand it is worthless in its current format, although I heard from someone that if you change the main keyword throughout the content (and as long as it still reads normally) that this effectively makes a new piece of content that is as good as a freshly written one.

Are there any warriors who can comment with experience on whether it's possible to re-use PLR content in this way?

I am pretty sure it wouldn't changed enough to make it unique I normally rewrite/spin it. But still keeps the main keywords. Although it still passes an unique content filter

The PLR that has been recycled over and over again throughout the years and available for $1 off tradebit won't be great.

But warriors sell their own PLR articles, ebooks etc. on this forum, and those ones should be of a high quality.

If you are going to publish it online then I think the best way to use PLR would be to completely re-write it in your own words. This should not take long though as all the content is there in front of you.

Or you can package it into autoresponders, ebooks etc and then could just use it as-is.

I think the main advantage of PLR is that it eliminates the research involved. And then you can adjust the content to make it better and to suit your needs better.

It depends on the lisense, but in most cases you will be able to do what you like with the content (including rewriting it, submitting it as-is etc.) apart from sell on the PLR rights to it.

Hope that is of some help!

I wouldn't use it that way because anyone that reads a lot of info in a particular niche, would probably recognize it as being very similar to something else they read.

You could be viewed within your niche as someone who just rehashes the works of others.
As a result, your credibility as someone as an authority on that subject could be at stake.

If you were just going to use it for SEO purposes, you should read some of the threads concerning Google's new Panda algorithm.

The best thing to do with PLR, in my opinion, is to re-purpose it into another format. Audio, video...

Many years ago, Rebecca Fine, took a free giveaway book (The Science Of Getting Rich) and turned it into an entire network of products including a membership.

You can see it in action here: The Science of Getting Rich Network - Law of Attraction resources free since 1999!

    (Not an affiliate link)

I think her site is probably the best example of what can be done using PLR and free products.

p.s. I don't agree that all PLR is worthless. I think that using it in the way that the OP is talking about is not really taking advantage of everything you can do with good PLR.

    Hello Warren,

Good question and interesting technique. I had never heard of this way to reuse PLR before but here is my opinion.

If I understood this approach well, it suggests using PLR for your website or for an article (or any other piece of online content). Changing only one keyword throughout the article will result in your PLR still containing about 95% duplicate content (if for example your keyword density was a high 5%).

Now in my understanding of IM, a reused PLR with 5% uniqueness would not be good enough to qualify as a new piece content. But if in addition of modifying the keyword you rephrased your PLR to a point of let's say 30-50% uniqueness, then it might be worth using the approach you have found out.

I might have missed the point since I am not sure of the purpose of the rewritten PLR (online content or info products). If you meant rewriting PLR in order to resell them as info products, then it would yield better results to do more than changing the main keywords throughout the text: in order to add real value, you can always partially rewrite your PLR, invent a new product name, rebrand, get graphics and repackage is as 'new'.

I hope I managed my answer will help you to decide whether or not it is worth trying out this technique,

    Cheers,
    Bertrand.

In most cases (if not all), exchanging a few keywords is not enough to make a PLR document original. It's important that you read through and rewrite the content to ensure that you are providing good information to your website visitors, list subscribers, and whomever else you are giving this info to.

PLR content, especially articles and ebooks that are free, may be outdated and/or have been used by so many people that it will not benefit you to use it as is or with very little rewriting being done.

I would never buy that overused, worn out stuff on Tradebit, but there are always great PLR WSOs here with fresh content. I rewrite my PLR that I buy but it saves a lot of time having good PLR to go from.

I agree with the above comments, rewriting is a must. One of the best uses of PLR is to turn it into a video. Another is to combine a number of pieces into giveaway reports. It's much easier than starting from scratch, that's for sure. And stay away from the free stuff... As tempting as free is sometimes, ya get what ya pay for.

Nothing wrong with grabbing all the free PLR you can but you have to read it to see if it's worth keeping. Some of the free stuff seems to be written by third-graders.

However, even old, widely distributed PLR can be used again if you get creative with it. Use paragraphs or even sentences from multiple articles to create a new one. Combine parts of a bunch of decent articles into a short report to post on document sharing sites or give as a freebie to your subscribers. Use the content in your autoresponders.

Believe it or not, MOST people will not realize it's PLR even if they have that content sitting on their own machines, as long as it's not in the same format as they had it.

In addition to the importance of rewriting the plr content significantly and adding audio, video or other modules, it would be important to change the graphics and sales letter to make it unique. You can also add in an interview or two to make the product stand out.

I assume you're just talking about PLR articles, right?

Because you can turn it into videos (as was already mentioned), and that works well.

You can also hire someone to re-write it, which may be cheaper than writing a completely new article.

If you buy a complete piece of PLR with a sales page, graphics, etc. then just changing the graphics will make it look very different and might sell better

This is certainly not true at all. On some of my sites I use a mixture of as-is PLR with rewritten PLR and unique content and it does just fine. And you may also want to consider the fact that using PLR for reports, eBooks or autoresponder messages means that you don't even need to worry about using it as-is (Google don't come into it)

As long as you buy well written PLR, of course. If you're buying re-hashed PLR that's not written well then yes I would say it's not going to be much use to you.

Now to your next question. Changing a keyword is most definitely not enough to make it "unique". If you want that then I would recommend changing the title and at least a couple of paragraphs too. Though I stil personally feel PLR saves me a load of time even if I do decide to rewrite it.

One thing with PLR is to reuse it to get your money's worth. Don't just feel as though you can only use it for blog content. Add it to autoresponders, create free reports, maybe even use it for scripts for a video - all of this will make it "unique" in a way that provides value to your visitors, even if the words aren't technically unique.

    Hi,
I have a related question on this topic. How much should we expect to pay a writer to re-write PLR content? What is the average rate? I would expect it to be very quick and easy to re-write PLR, so would expect it to cost quite a bit less than authoring an original article, but want to make sure I'm correct on those expectations.

    Thanks,
    Anna

It really depends on the writer. Some view it as they are providing you with unique content, which should be almost as valuable as if they wrote content for you completely from scratch. Others offer rates that are about half off of their original content rates.

Rewrites are so quick and easy that you should be able to get someone to do them for pretty cheap. In my opinion, anything is going to be better than using a stupid spinner.

I agree with all the above.... when it comes to plr articles it's not enough to only alter the keywords, I doubt that they will pass copyscape.

It's better to rewrite yourself or hire someone to do this for really cheap as $1 or $1.5 per article.

As for PLR ebooks you can rewrite very easy a small report combining 2 or 3 ebooks together and adding a few original pargraphs from your own.....

Then you can give it away for free......to build your list !

    Hi All;

One of the ways I was thinking of using PLR is to put a blurb from the article on my site and then include a podcast of the whole article. I think this might be a way to get someone to stay on your site for a bit longer and I think a lot of people might like to listen rather than read.
