earning money through article writing

A lot of people earn money through online article writing. I have been a writer for a few years now, but I am new to the online article writing stuff. How do you rate articles? I am asking because I have noticed that a lot of people are offering to do article writing jobs on a very low rate.

When I first started I worked for very little. This was to build my reputation and gain experience. I was doing 500 wd articles for $2. With decent experience, you should start being able to get $5 for a 500 wd article. There are some people that will pay you $10 for the same, but this is when you are very experienced and have proven yourself already. But the reason why you see a lot of people doing the articles at a low rate is because there are a lot of people in other countries that will take an even lower rate. Some of it has to do with the exchange rate, and some of it has to do with their level of opportunity.

Have you checked out Sites like Constant Contact? You can write articles and post them there and list different prices for exclusive and non-exclusive license rights. You get 70% (currently) of the sale amount. I've sold articles there. Many articles are in the 20 to 40 dollar range.

It's helpful if you set up a blog and show samples of past work so people can see your style and place that in your signature. There is a range of pricing as well as quality amongst those who write articles. Also some buyers may want a different quality of articles based on whether it's for their website vs for article directory submissions. The warriors for hire section is a good place to display your service as well as to view existing and similar services. Also some people are looking for an all in one service that will submit the articles as well around the net, others will want just to get to place themselves on their blog or website.

Many of those are people who assume that an appropriate way to start is by offering terribly low prices, intending to raise them subsequently, after establishing a base of clientele. In other words, they make the exact mistake referred to here, and there are so many of them that that's almost certainly the most difficult "end of the market" in which to compete.

It seems only at first glance like a paradox (but it isn't really) that it can actually be easier to gather clients for $25 articles than for $5 articles. It's just a different marketplace, but one in which the customers are among the minority who know how to use your articles (i.e. they're not just putting them in article directories hoping for traffic and backlinks!). Of course, as Debbie says just above, you need a website to "display your wares" (and your skills).

Article writing is an extremely competitive occupation.

There are online outsourcing companies that will write a 500 word article for a low rate because they are often in 3rd world countries where $1 goes a long way.

Having said that, if you developed a reputation for quality and speed, there's no reason why you couldn't find IMers who would use your talent for writing.

In summary, I'd take a long hard look at the competition and give some serious thought to how you value your time, i.e. a 500 word article may take 10-15 minutes, and if you're getting $2-$5 per article, you're only looking at $8-$20 per hour--which you can probably make out pan-handling.
