Help With Article Marketing - keyword competition

I use ezinearticles for all of my articles. I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on keyword competition. For example, how much competition is too much for ezinearticles in an exact phrase search. Another example would be if I do an exact phrase search on "take paid surveys online" and the results show that there are 2,439 results, would that be too much for my ezine article to rank on that first page. It would help me out a lot in keyword research if I knew roughly how much weight ezinearticles carries with exact phrase keywords. Thanks to everyone.

    You can't be exact which articles will end up on the front page and which wouldn't because they have the most viewed and the most published article list right under your articles as well.

    Therefore it affects the keyword density. Just write for the end user and make sure you keep the keyword density between 2-3%. Write several articles around the same title with added subtitles and you will get one on the front page.

      Here is what you do.

      1. Find the number of searches for the keyword monthly.

      2. Find the number of competing sites in quotes at Google.

      3. Use this formula to compute KEI

      (Monthly Searches/Competing Sites) X Monthly Searches

      If the result is 100 or greater, the keyword phrase is good.

      I use this and it rarely lets me down.

        Can you explain a little further? I'm not aware of this method. And do you use Google Keyword tool?

    I use the SEO Toolkit keyword search tool to find popular keywords.. then plug them into google in the following way:

    "keyword"
    intitle:"keyword"
    intitle:"keyword" inanchor:"keyword"

    and watch the numbers and the sites. If there is too many competing articles, hubpages, or squidoo lenses, etc... then I don't use that keyword as my main keyword.

    I shoot for less than 10 competing sites with that keyword in title AND in anchor. That will make it very probably to get into the top 10 in google. It takes time and research, but you can find great keywords that are untapped to their full potential.
