Camtasia Audio Help...

Hey all, I recently created some videos in camtasia and I'm running into an audio issue. I have gotten some direction on the best way to resolve the problem from a friend, but I thought I should ask some might sharp minds of the warrior forum for additional feedback.

The main problem I am having is that the audio I have recorded seems abit loud and uneven in certain spots. I do need a better mic and amp setup since audio source is the key factor in this situation, but it's not like i used junk either.

I recorded the audio using a Andrea ANC-700 headset with a usb sound pod.

What can I do to clean and balance the audio before I encode the files into swf/flv? Camtasias internal audio tools seem shoddy to me. A friend told me to pull the audio and use something like audacity or audition to clean and level the audio and then reattach it to the video.

I have both these tools but my experience with them is limited, if anyone can point me to a tutorial or give me a general idea of the ideal settings I want to modify along with any associated values it would be much appreciated.

Once everything else is right I plan to encode in On Flix Pro to swf/flv.

    I think there is a button near the timeline that evens the audio out.

    Try that...and then decrease the volume by pressing the decrease volume button.

    Dave, save the audio out to a wav file.

    Open it in Audacity and take a look. If you've gone into distortion clipping (i.e. the waveforms get clipped as you got way too loud), then you're stuck - a lot of processing may help but take ages and it would be easier to re-record the audio with the volume lower.

    (Not necessarily re-record the video though - you can sync the two up together afterwards.

    If you just want to even out the loud bits then save the wav file, open in audacity - select the whole wave and use the compression effect with a low threshold and a ratio of about 1:2.5, fastest attack possible. Experiment a bit.

      Dave,

      Here's the easiest way to do it.

      Click on "audio enhancements" in camtasia (it's on the left near "produce video"). Then, there is a button to click to even out the audio. Technically it's called a compressor, but you can even it out with free settings. I usually use medium, and tweak it a bit. You can see how it changes the waveform to even out the audio.

      Also, while you're there, remove noise
