A Post that's been 5 Years in the Making

Hi Guys

I joined the forum in 2006, two years after I had begun my main project, and for the past 5 years have been just dying to make this post. Finally, I have managed to build my website income to a level that is comparable with my well-paid day job and so I have decided to give up the day job to concentrate on my internet business full time.

Actually, I have been working part-time for just over the past year, thanks to my internet business, but now is the time for me to really take things forward. It is a great feeling! A good chunk of my income is passive and that's why it has taken me so long to build it up to the level I wanted. But what a reward: I know I will never have to do a day's work again in my life.

Of course I am going to be busy over the next 5 years building the site up even further, but do you know something? I don't think of that as work; it is sheer pleasure for me because I absolutely love what I do. There are many Warriors who have helped me along the way simply by making great contributions to the forum.

Eventually, I learned the lessons and this last year my business has doubled its income, so who knows where all this will end? For anyone just starting out, perhaps this little post will encourage you. You need to stick at it, whatever you decide to do. So be persistent. First, look for the action of cause and effect in your online activity and when you can correlate measurable results with measurable effort, you are on the right track. You just then need to focus all your efforts on the causes.

I love waking up to posts like this...especially on a Saturday morning.

Internet business is really a great thing. Like you, I've been able to turn it into pure fun and enjoyment--meshing things I LOVE doing, with the ability to earn an income at the same time. I've had to balance alot of 'other' obligations, simultaneously, but, I definitely strive to take my business to the same level as you have, Will.

Thanks again for the post! Keep up the good work

That is great news, congratulations Will!

I'm sure Will is too modest to mention some of his impressive statistics, so I hope he won't mind if I do:

    Domain: White Dove Books
    Page Rank: 5
Daily Page Views: Significantly over 30,000!
    Daily Ads Revenue: $100+
Keywords: #1 in Google for pretty much anything to do with personal development

I hope you can share a few words of wisdom for those hoping to reach their goals.

How much have you invested into your business?

Do you have any tips for getting the first place rankings in Google?

Thanks Will, I know that your business will just keep on getting bigger.

      Hi Mike

It's a pleasure to receive this comment from you. I know we didn't start well all those years ago, but that again is what makes Warriors special. I love your own business model (licencing) and it is something I intend to replicate at some future stage; not the products of course, just the strategy.

      Thanks again and good luck.

I think that Will has built something that he can be very proud off. I remember being told that you should build a business that your Granddad would be proud off. I think quite a few people here might not be that proud of their business.

Maybe there is a trade off when it comes to making money. I bet Will could make much more if he did: HOW I MADE A ZILLON ONLINE. Food for thought...What value does your business do for the World?

I am so happy to read this Will - not only a fellow Brit but a fellow author as well. You are a superb example of someone who has followed where their passion led and got a bonus in the way of a pot of gold at the end of that particular rainbow. I bet, though, that although the gold was one motivator it was all the other factors driving you on that got you where you wanted to be.

    You're an inspiration!

It is interesting that it is a .co.uk domain and the .com seems to be either available, or for sale. Another nice example of how you don't need a .com to do it. Inspiration for all the .ca people. (like me)

I was looking at the code and there were the signs of a wysiwyg at work, then you mentioned FP and EW. I also could not understand the nav buttons, but since they won't open a site page in a new tab, guess I won't bother.

I had saved the list of things you did without a plan, and appreciate the 'recommended' and 'not recommended' comments.

But I'd guess that a couple of items on the list that involved writing seem to me to be the most valuable. Wrote a lot of books and created a lot of products, and loved writing. Even though those parts of the list did not have a comment, I would have to give them 'the most highly recommended.' It's having products that are a priority, and the website details are secondary.

And for the exrat part of this topic, it just reminded me of something I heard in an ashram hundreds of years ago. 'They say that Satsang can turn a crow into a swan, but I know what it can do for a rat.' (enjoyed that )

Actually, the .com became available a few years ago and I should have grabbed it at the time. As you say, the guy who has it is just awaiting a sale.

Don't understand. So do the buttons not work for you?

Congratulations Will. I love reading posts like these because it's just more social proof that people CAN do this if they focus on the right things. At least several times a week there's a newbie or someone who's been at it for awhile and they are looking for examples or stories of people who have made it.

I also echo Ron Douglas's sentiments. When I left corporate America it allowed me to hone in on my business with laser-like focus which it allowed it to grow much quicker; more opportunities presented themselves. I'm sure you leaving your job will allow you to do this as well. You have the right attitude and only see more great things for you.

And you're right, when you're doing something you love, it's not work (except for that book keeping / accounting stuff, but that's one of the first things I outsourced...lol).

    Godspeed.

If I left click on the buttons in the top menu, they will open the page. But if I middle click, they don't do anything. I believe any other link I've wheel clicked on, except for flash sites, will them in a new tab for me. On right click, there is no option to open in a new tab or window on your site. That's with FF 5.

Just tried with IE 9 and a middle click opens them in the same tab, not a new one. A right click doesn't produce any options except grayed out ones. None of them related to opening a new page, just copy, paste, undo, select all, delete.

At least for me on my sites that produces a feeling like 'that's enough of a good time. Time to panic and get back to work.' I'm all too familiar with it.

Will, I read your earlier posts as suggested above. You said, "For years now, this site has been ranked on the #1 page of Google for many competitive keywords." Can you give examples of the keywords, as I can't figure them out (I tried various long tails using personal development, inspirational, motivational, ebooks, free, etc). That's for the overall site and, based on your technique, the internal pages will have their own keywords. Also, I'm not seeing backlinks with significant pagerank. Which sites are you referring to? Or is it just the number of sites that are getting White Dove Books ranked? You have great traffic and I'm trying to see how it's getting there based on what you've shared with us. Nice work and very nice writing style. Thanks.

And what struck me the most from your post was that its mostly PASSIVE. So, if you wanted to, you could put in a small amount of maintenance work each day and otherwise have your time all to yourself.

Two things to understand from this:
    • Needs hard work
    • Is Possible!
    • And definitely PROFITABLE

      Will, if you don't mind...

I have a few questions to ask from you.
      1. What niche do you work in?
      2. You main source of traffic? Secret to that?
      3. Your main monetization method?
      4. Most crucial thing in your success?
      5. Biggest roadblock in your success?
      6. Your advice to the newbies?

Hope you have the time to answer them.

        Hi Schttrj

I think I need to allow this thread to die. It has run its course I feel. The answers to your questions are all in the thread and you could also visit my Warrior blog if you need further details.

        Cheers,
