Buying An Email List is Good or Bad

Hi there,

don`t buy lists! They were most probably already spammed to death and the response rate will be VERY low. Plus, any kind of unrequested emailing is automatically considered as spam.

Building your own list ensures that your opt-ins are active, REQUESTED more information and are therefore more likely to be interested in what you offer.

now i want to now that autoresponder generally awaber, getesponce are quite costly for a newbie. i have searched at fiverr.com for email list but a person giving a autoresponder functionally like awaber,getresponce.
So should i purchase that one bcz i am also new and do not have that much traffic. In that condition other autoresponders are costly.

Actually GetResponse offer a free option for 100 subscribers or less. That may be a good way to start because, as your list gets bigger, you can easily upgrade.

Save your 5 bucks, good luck trying to explain to an ESP that you bought the list on fiver and wanted to send them offers!

Spend your $5 on a domain set up wordpress, signup to Email Marketing and Email List Manager | MailChimp its free for 2000 subscribers. Get people to opt in to your list by giving something valuable away (something you created yourself).

Send 3 emails of content then one related offer, build relationship - make money.

No don't buy lists. Most of those emails they sell are junk.

Build your own list, preferably through google adwords.

And if you don't think you want to spend any money on building a list or that a paid autoresponder like aweber is too costly then perhaps you shouldn't be in the IM business.

Reasons not to buy a list:
1. You can't be completely sure what is the history behind the list. How the owner communicated, what he promised, etc.
2. You can't control the quality of the list you're buying. What if 99% are freebie-seekers?
3. Sending your first email from a new address might not work at all because they will not even open it. There's even no initial interest about you.

I wouldn't even saying buying a list will help you. I would say building solid backlinks and getting targeted traffic to your website is going to be the factor in increasing sales and visitors per month.

Regardless of the fact that the emails will most likely be useless
and already spammed to death... You would also be conducting
ILLEGAL spamming. You can actually get in trouble with the LAW
for sending unsolicited emails, which is spamming.

Be careful and I don't suggest buying any email list.

You're better off buying a "Solo Ad" from a marketer who already
has a list in your niche. This way, you will be able to build your own
opt-in list right from their list and do it the right way.

Never buy an email list. It could wind up costing you a LOT
more money in fines, etc. than a $19/month autoresponder!

Buying a list is not illegal and neither is mailing them. The problem comes is most people don't understand that they are allowed to make a initial offer to optin or purchase. If the client requests to receive no more emails or does not respond to the optin then they are off limits. Thats the legality 411.

The reality is list buying is a very advanced email concept that requires multiple server instances, AR software, IP's and understanding how to wash the list. Now every single optin system should have a similar single wash process, but a bought list brings unique challenges including unknown users, spam traps and complaints. All of which in any significant volume over 1% of your aggregate delivery will get you blacklisted.

In short if you don't have 5 years email experience including knowing the difference in bounce codes then stay far far away as you will only hurt your AR and possibly get yourself in trouble with ISP's and the FTC.

Semi related topic. Have you noticed all the big gurus are hitting the spam box? Well heres a funny story. Back in January a big bought list was going around and most of the big dogs snagged it and started running it for themselves. Big names and a few members here. Hardly a single one can send a email now and most are blacklisted to infinity. Two were even roksod. I've made about 10k cleaning up the effects of this for a couple of guys. They thought because they had a ton of money to throw at the problem they can make the list work. They were wrong and now email costs them 300% more than you or I and their reputations are still being damaged as the only place they can send email is the spam box.

From a legal standpoint...If your mailings are can-spam compliant then you can email any user until they unsubscribe.

What your suggesting is more of a strategy of buying a list that is already targeted and then attempt to get the subscribers to optin to another similar targeted lists VS a co-reg list that the subscriber knows or was specified in the TOS that they would receive other 3rd party offers / thier info would be sold.

There is no reason that anyone needs to have any prior experience. However, it certainly can't hurt. They just have to know what they are doing and fully understand the process they need to go through from buying a list to mailing it, etc... Granted they will either need to know someone in the business that they can get to teach them or find someone and pay them. As I don't know of any course that teaches the business.

No I agree with your points technically, I use the 5 year # because most people can't dedicate the time needed to learn the process and system because they're trying to squeeze cash out of it. The reason for the one time mailing strategy is that it reduces your infrastructure exposure from complaints.

The fact is you don't buy a coreg list to pull cash out of it. If you try to do that you will fail in the long game and damage your reputation. A coreg, bought or questionable list (outlook contact list, found on desktop list, business cards in fishbowl manually entered list) all have to be treated like potential poison to your operation. The goal of all email strategies is to move leads up the grading scale or remove them from the process. Sales from promotions in the email are a side benefit in the wash process.

I have currently 35 different grades of optins in my system. 250k in overall optins,coreg,dbl optins, buyers etc. All have different frequency sends and rules for movement within the system. We place large contact #'s, unsub links and email support in our emails so we can get people out of the system who want out.
In my first year of email marketing I went through about a IP every other day. Now I have ran the same ips for almost 2 years. Our reputation scores on our top lists are high 90s.

Again though I want to express, if you are new this is not for you. If you don't build a structure to handle the leads properly, treat the list respectfully and have a small chunk of cash to invest do not attempt this. You will not be able to use a third party service, you will be responsible for all the good bad and ugly things that happen, and could end up bunking with a guy named bubba who plays a banjo.

Hi, Buying list just wasting your money and get unresponsive emai list.

Currently I buy solo ads, the result is pretty good, I get the email list plus I get some sales to cover my fees, so is quite worth in long term, plus the email list is responsive.

I also use others service like Viralurl, I can send email through their service to get subscribers.

So you can send the emails to them, and until they request to be unsubscribed, you're not violating any laws?

Also, if an email is not commercial, say, you are offering a free service or seminar, can you avoid being classified as spam that way?

When it comes to the law take no ones advice here and talk to a real attorney who knows FTC rules and regulations. There are much better ways to get a active email marketing system going than coreg for new IM'ers.

Buying lists can be extremely profitable. All I do is buy co-reg lists. But I don't market IM products. I market products, services that have a large mass appeal because the response rate is going to be much lower. The upside is that we are talking large volume lists that can be turned into higher responsive sub lists.

Where most everyone here or at least it seems like they want to market internet marketing products or they go after small niches, which your going to need a target list and for the reasons that everyone has said that it's not a good idea to buy lists is true.

Anyway, I just wanted to add my 2 cents because buying lists isn't always a bad thing...it just a totally different game.

yeah anyway there are great services out there that help you grow your list.

i know someone i think by the name of harry that is offering some sign up package where you pay him a certain amount for a certain size of sign ups and he will set up a campaign to drive traffic and aquire the sign ups that u paid for.

so u get fresh sign ups under ur list.

better than buying list i think..

Actually it depends on the source. If you are unable to manage or collect email then you need to buy; but I recommend not to buy email list there; may be off niche email.

This first thing I would do is set your site up with a great..better that great..free offer. Then go to the jv section of this forum and see pay to send your offer to their list. or sign up for a viral free giveaway. Many times you can find them in here also. Just so a search. There are some running right now and thru the summer. Make sure your page is tracked and that you have your auto responder sequence set up. This will start your list building. and you'll have a much better qualified list to get you started. I wouldn't waste your time and money on buying lists, been there, done that. Hope this helps.

Its just throwing of money nothing else. I think all of the such emails were fake, some peoples asking to make emails in bulks and then sell them to other members. But its always get in loss, its better to use some social sites rather wasting money on such foolish stuffs. Email marketing is now a days very low slow response giver and in case of these email list you can't expect to get even 5 to 10% response from such email id's.

Don't send email to anyone who didn't ask you to email them.

You can still convert money into a list. Instead of outright buying a list, you simply set up a squeeze page, then buy traffic to that squeeze page.

Like others said, I would not buy a list and more than ever I would not send emails to that list. That would be regarded as spamming by the recipients and illegal by many.

Le me share a little experience that occurred a few years back, I hired someone from a freelancer site to do SEO and get traffic to a new website. He did SEO to some extent but on the negative site he collected a lot of emails probably using scrapers (I don't know) and sent unsolicited emails to all those emails to get traffic.

Among this recipients, one person was mailserver admin or sys admin of a large company. He most likely sent email back to freelancer's email complaining about the smap mail. I assume he did not answer, then the admin collected my email from the site and contacted me. After a lot of discussion I proved to him that it was not my doing and I was not aware of it at all. He understood completely but he was still eager to take legal actions against the freelancer who did it. (he stuck to it for 2 weeks i think then he left the issue).

I canceled the contract with the freelance and was cautious as ever before hiring someone for work.

Having an email list great but collecting those emails without owners permission can be hazardous.

This is a real event and I hope this information helps you understand better.

I purchased a list once. Promoted a product off clickbank using it and my account was shut down because of spam and bounce backs. Never buy a list, they are shams, and will also jam up your business. Create your list the old fashion way, with hard work.

here is one quick way to build your list, since all the warriors already agreed that building a list is much better

type "your niche forums" on google and find where your people are. Go there and answer their questions and have a signature where they can click to sign up. Also offer them some freebies in the forums that can help them.

There you have a targeted list which trust you and are willing to buy from you. Takes time to build though.

The only thing you’re really buying when you buy an email list… is a massive headache.

People can say anything bad about buying list, and you have a right to believe it or not. People hate spam, so do I.

However, if you want to know for sure I think you need to try it, but don't ruin your existing and establish business. For example, some people tell that solo ad is better, but with simple reason, people don't like seeing an ad on their email. But it still work for some people.

So if people tell it better, why bother to try both since some people got a result from sending blast email to list they bought too. cmiiw.

On the other hand, I think to attract subscriber is not that hard. Here if you are too lazy. Pay a freelancer to write about your niche, get cool ebook cover called "Ultimate [Your Niche] Report." Set subscriber form.

Pay someone to write 10 articles about your niche. Search your related and authority blogger who open guess blogging opportunity, register on their blog and submit the articles. Create an author signature that pointing to your free report page with attractive ebook cover and above the fold subscription form.

Totally agree with most of the warriors, buying a list (that is probably dead or burnt out) is a fatal mistake.

In most cases the easy / lazy way is not the best path to follow.

Nope...you have to build your own...because first and foremost it should be you who understands your market. You have to get good knowledge of this to know what they want, how they spend and why they joined your list in the first place as this will help you know how to effectively deliver your content to them and also how to ensure they buy any product you recommend.Some things you can do it create a lead magnet, autoresponder series, landing page and then market this by guest blogging or article marketing.

it's a bad idea since you will never know how those emails were used. You might get some trojans and virus from those email adds.

The reality is you can make a lot of money buying lists, but doing such really needs to be your core business because it comes with a lot of challenges that you have to know how to handle.

If list buying / email marketing isn't your core business, then you are 99.999...% of the time going to be much better off developing your own list!
