Yahoo shutting down Site Explorer.. What's Next?

Well, Site Explorer of Yahoo has been appreciated by a lots of webmasters to trace their competitors and improve own optimization quality of website. As yahoo has already announced to shut down it's site Explorer this year, what do you think you will be using next?

Although there are other best options and other best tools to determine these works, Yahoo has been the easiest tool to summarize my report. Now, I might use OpenSiteExplorer.com more than I have been using.

What will be your options to overlap the loss of Site Explorer?

*Opensiteexplorer.org is the best free option now, especially since you can export the reports into Excel spreadsheets - but their bots don't cover as much of the index as Yahoo's. It can be tough to get reports on less popular keywords.

*Majesticseo.com is the other option I know about - this is where Market Samurai and Traffic Travis (SEO software) get their backlinks (or will).

Bing powering the search results has no relevance over the YSE results.

YSE has been working as usual for the last few years, I've seen no changes and use it more than a few times a day.

I guess I'll be checking out MajesticSEO once YSE gets turned off for good.

Bing API TOS prohibits us using their search engine to get this kind of data.

While Yahoo has said they are shutting it down, they seem to be leaving the door open to provide a similar iteration of it. I think that hinges on the options they will have available once the Powered By Bing results are fully implemented in the Yahoo results.

Bing may make an exception on their seeming hatred for Internet Marketers, if Yahoo is willing to pay them extra for that data. The question I suspect is whether Yahoo will continue to feel it is useful to them and worth the extra cost.

Thanks to everyone else for the suggestions, because I also was quite unsure what options would be available to us when and if it completely shut down.

Honest to god, I don't get why anyone would care?

The data that they give you is dooooo dooooo. Not to mention....you can find more accurate and complete data just doing an inanchor search in Google as to who your competition is and just how hard they are trying to "win".

We've included yahoo site explorer results in some of the software we've created...But, only because people think they need it.

doooo dooo LOL. and that is puttin it nicely dude.

We do a lot of reverse engineering these days, and google is really all your need. yes it has some problems, but really its a powerful tool if you know how to use it.

How powerful will it remain in the absence of other options?

And how will you know how useful it is, without comparing it to something else?

With YSE gone, Google can start scaling down what they give us, and we will be none the wiser...

I know google made changes to how they rank websites on early this year, and I guess now yahoo going through new changes as well.

Yahoo was great for using Linkdomain: reverse traces on competitors websites.

Yet I could see this coming for a long time.
The Internet sites like google and yahoo, spent years allowing people to build and grow using a free system....but...nothing is free.
The truth is google wants money and so does yahoo.
They know they know have online business trapped into doing business, or they'll force businesses out of business online.
Either businesses will pay to get ranked and use thier services or else.
I have seen this already for the past couple of years.
Google now charges to be ranked in area's like Real Estate, Law,Music sales online, Internet distrubutors and affiliate companies.
It's only a matter of time before the smaller less visited area's of google and yahoo, will be used also for paying customers who want to rank online,

We have already been i contact with google.....if you're heavy into SEO abd rankin sites, good luck, if they find your site ranked online and you're not paying, expect to get crushed soon.......I've seen this happen to over 100 of my sites !!

          What was

I couldn't understand, what are you trying to let us know? I have never experienced to pay Google to rank on music keywords. I own a nice established local music webiste which ranks good for most of the major keywords.

Jeremy: It is more about a different point of view. YSE always includes info that is not necessarily covered by Google, and vice versa.

Of course, I am an exception to all "rules" of that nature, because I use both as a snapshot overview, rather than a tool to do extra work.

The question is though - What good is the data?

      What does it tell you?

So...people try to rank in Google, and then get there by depending on the data that an outdated useless tool gives them?

Just doesn't make sense to me.

That is where I went wrong. :p

I keep thinking that there is value in the information BEYOND ranking in Google.

I kinda agree with Jeremy on this one-

Sure people like to rank in Yahoo, but I never see posts saying "OMG Yahoo sandboxed me!'

If you want to rank in Google, it's important to know what the Big G sees, not Yahoo

I have read some good alternatives over here. Im still not sure on what toold to use now that yahoo site explorer is gone. They are shutting each one of their services one by one and I got several of emails that I might need to export by now.

Change is the only constant thing in this world. All we have to do is to adapt on the changes. Yahoo will surely do a lot of changes for its development.
