Has anyone used "Text To Speech" In Vista?

hey all,

I saw 'text to speech' in my computer. Have any of you checked this feature out yet? What do you think of it?

  Wow, I have been contemplating buying a program to turn text into speech so tell me where do I find this on my Vista? My eyes are having a hard time reading everything on the screen.

  I either saw in Speech Recognition, or I saw it in 'Sounds' on Control Panel.
  
  I think it was in 'sounds' because I think I saw it when I was trying to configure my new mic.

Hi Norma go to Start menu/Control Panel/Speech Recognition icon and you can click on the links. I haven't tried it yet For text to Speech go to Start/control panel/text to speech and follow the instructions.

Wow I just tried the speech to text and it was EASY! Can't believe I was contemplating spending money for a similar program when this is right here! For once, I've found something great about vista.

I found it in control panel, but how do you use it?

How do you create a text to be converted to speech? I don't see anything there that would really allow me to do anything with it...

OK, I see now... all you have to do is to type your text into a ONE line window and click "preview voice'.

However, I couldn't copy and paste anything into that window... Also I couldn't
find a way to convert it into an audio file of any sort...

I love vista's voice to text...

It takes a well enunciated recital of "Row Row Row Your Boat" and turns it into this:

Roa row to row your boat jet Li down this Trina narrowly merrily narrowly Malik life is but a dream

Now I know how those spammers who sent nonsense phrases at the end of their emails to help them get through email filterss came up with them :-)

It's pretty much like dragon naturally speaking but needs to be trained as usual. The more you talk the better it gets.

This is pretty cool for people who don't know about it...

In Adobe Reader open any pdf. and click view, then click read out loud, it will read your book to you.

  Reg! That is a GEM! I LOVE it. I just gave it a pdf report to convert... it took less than two minutes for it to generate a 15 minute audio recording.
  
  I've only tried one voice so far, and it definitely sounds 'computer generated' but it's still an cool app.
  
  Used with the right message, it might actually be a really effective marketing tool.

@HDRider - I've never noticed that before ... do you know how to make it talk slower? I just gave it a whirl and it's a pretty cool feature

Ive used it ever since I got my first Vista and like DNS it does need to be trained but it really works wonders. Didn't know I could get it to read PDF's etc. Could be a quick way to turn your articles and e-books into audio files to futher expand on your efforts without added work. Thanks for the headsup about that part of the program, will come in handy.
