Newbie Clickbank/DLGuard Qestion

Hi everybody,

I have a product that I want to market on clickbank. From what I understand I need a thank you page (which should be a random .html name) with a link on it to where the actual digital media is stored (which I'm assuming should be another random name). I just have a couple questions

-should I store this in the public root of my website?
-How does a program like DlGuard work with a thank you page that has a link on it? Or does it only work for email? I'm confused on what I should submit to clickbank as my thank you page...

I am brand new to this so I apologize if i'm not clear...but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

Your "Thank You" page is where your customers get your product from and as such will have to be under the public root of the domain (although it could be in a subdirectory).

In a nutshell its a page that says, "Wow you're the coolest person in the world, thank you for buying my stuff, now click here to get it."

What DLGuard does is implement the Clickbank payment notification system so you can make sure that no one has found your "Thank You" page without paying first. Eg you can say, "Wow, you suck, my product is a measly $20 and you still felt the need to rip me off."

If you're new to this game I highly recommend buying DLGuard just for the customer support Sam S (the product creator) offers.

        Hey thanks for the replies!

So a program Like DlGuard never masks the location of the actual digital media? It just restricts access to the thank you page? How does that help prevent link sharing?

Say someone clicks the "Download Now" link (which leads to www (dot) mysite.com/downloads) on my thank you page. How Does DLGuard prevent people from just writing down where the files are?

I'm still a little hazy on this clickbank thing but its something I would really like to learn and not have to outsource.

        Thanks Everyone!

If Sam were online right now he would quickly and easily answer your question. Until then, try going to the dlguard website. You might find all your answers there. This is one product that I found nothing but rave reviews for and now I see why.
          Hope this helps.

When you add your product to Clickbank, you give CB the url of your thankyou page. If you're using DL Guard, you give CB a special link provided by DL Guard. DLG will dynamically generate a thankyou page when you make a sale. That page has a special link that consists of a lot of gibberish. It's got a ticking clock on it, so it's only good for a certain period of time or a limited number of downloads.

After that, it doesn't work anymore, which completely eliminates link sharing.

    It's a great product.

RIght... DLG turns .....com/thankyou.htm into ....com/asijdoiwfowcsdici.htm (or similar), then a different URL for the next customer download. That way they never know that the real thankyou page is ....com/thankyou.htm

You guys have any suggestions on where I should store my actual product? Right now i just made up a folder full of random characters and put my product there. Is that secure?

    Hi Gigabit,

I'm not sure how I missed this post originally! I usually try and keep up to date with all posts here with DLGuard questions

Yes, DLGuard does create a secure download page for your customers but it ALSO creates secure download links as well.

So the links themselves, that DLGuard automatically displays for you, are also secure.

There are a few places you can store your files, depending on your experience and how your server operates:

The easiest method is to put your file into a randomly named folder like you've done. DLGuard never reveals this location, and since it's randomly named, no one can guess it.

The next step, if you wish, is you can use your hosting control panel to put a password on that folder. DLGuard will still be able to access it.

Or lastly, if you've got a bit of experience with working with file paths, you can store your files outside of your public_html folder. This means no one can access them, except through DLGuard.

So there are a few methods there!

By the way, when you set up a product in DLGuard for Clickbank, there is a box labelled "Custom Download Template" near the bottom of the screen. Enter: clickbank.html

...into that box, and this will display a dowload page template that conforms to Clickbank's thankyou page requirements.

Thanks for choosing DLGuard, I appreciate the support!

    cheers

    gigabit,

i know that sam wil tell you that clickbank now accepts DLG, eg. if you have a site with your DLG links already.

But what i do...before i submit to clickbank i just have a "normal" thank you page with "open" links, no DLG installed. Then i let the product approve.
After approval i change my links to the DLG links. But it might be the case this is not even needed anymore since clickbank knows bout DLG

DLGuard started life as a program called "Clickbank Download Manager" or CBDM. It has evolved a bit since then!
Heh, I remember you being around since those early days David! I don't think many people know of, or remember, the CBDM days!

It's facinating to look back on how all of our businesses here have changed.

It's one of the things I love about this forum - you get to work alongside other professionals and watch their business change and grow as well.

    Now I'm getting all sentimental....

Heh, yes I certainly will Georg

I know a few people sometimes do have some customer service reps question it, but the majority know about DLGuard.

As a tiny aside, Clickbank has also given the thumbs up for upsells post-sale for Clickbank using DLGuard's system

    cheers

Where is that red X image pointing to on my thank you page? I would like to put an image in there but I don't know where DLGuard is trying to obtain it from.
