The Challenge by Ed Dale

I am seriously interested in starting a small online business that makes a few hundred dollars a month. It would be a great side income on top of my part-time job in retail. But my question is how do I get started? I recently came across The Challenge by Ed Dale and to be honest it sounds too good to be true so my question is will it help me to make money online.

I meditate a lot in spare time, could I create a niche website that provide online courses, books and guides and tutorials for people who may be interested in meditation. Could The Challenge really help me to make a great side-income or is it just a waste of time? Has any-one on this forum made a few hundred dollars from what the course teaches? Does it really work?

The challenge by Ed Dale is to make a SINGLE dollar online. And it gives you a significant amount of time to accomplish your first dollar. So Ed Dale's course is definitely not too good to be true. If anything, it's more realistic than most beginner marketing courses out there.

It takes awhile for most people to learn how to 'make money online,' and The Challenge is a great place to learn the basics. You probably won't make the money you're looking for just by following the simplified steps of Ed's Challenge, but it is a great place to start.

I started with the 30 day challenge and managed to pull it off on the very last day. <---- ie. I made a single dollar on the last day of the course.

But I have since then learned how to make significantly more by continuing to learn ways that work well for my business model. It was more than worth spending time on for me, so hopefully it helps you get started as well.

Yes; I know from earlier conversations here that plenty of people have made a few hundred out of what they learned on it.

It's quite a big niche. Plenty available. And your knowledge of/interest in the subject will help you a lot, because you'll be able to write well about it.

The Challenge (formerly known as The 30 Day Challenge) is a fantastic way to begin. You'll learn so much and when you are finished the challenge you'll realize just how much you do know compared to when you first began.

I went through the challenge several years ago just to see what it was all about and even though I have been marketing since 2003 I learned a ton.

Ed Dale is a very good teacher and explains things better than anyone else I've ever come across.

The biggest thing you'll take away from the Challenge is that you will have proven to yourself that YOU can make money online with a bit of focused effort in the right areas and Ed leads you the entire way.

Good to see you are already thinking about your market.

That's certainly the place to start - and mixing a commercially viable market with an interest is a great way to look at it...that's what has always worked for us.

Next step? Take a look at what meditation sites are doing well.

Do some basic market research. You will typically find sites that sell a product and sites that focus on building community around content (sometimes you will get both, but pretty quickly you will isolate them around those two categories)

I would specifically look at two things:

    1. Product directories such as Amazon, Clickbank, Commission Junction - and even places like eBay or other shopping sites where you can guage which meditation products (ebooks, books, courses, music, etc...) are popular and...

    2. Look at the sites that are most popular around the topic (top articles on ezine articles, top blogs (in terms of both popularity as well as comments), top videos on YouTube, top press releases, top articles on Google News, etc....

This will give you a pretty good feel for a) what products are popular and b) what content is attracting the most interest

All of this is so you can figure out how you will approach the market, what value you will add and how you will make money (what you will sell)

Once you have all of this done, you can begin the process of setting up your onsite presence which should involve content, ideally a blog and pages dedicated to reviewing/or re-directing traffic to products that you recommend.

Along the way - you should be building the concept of capturing leads (via email) into your funnel so that you can communicate with them on an ongoing basis.

    To summarize:

    1. Understand your market - what is selling, what is getting traffic and capturing attention
    2. Decide what your value in the marketplace will be
    3. Setup a lead capture and sales funnel based on attracting traffic via high quality content in line with #2
    4. Execute

That will most certainly get you to a few hundred dollars a month - and most probably, more.

The Challenge is ok. I would think that Chris Farrell Membership might be more helpful to you because he really shows you how to create an online course, offering books and guides on any niche you'd like. He pretty much shows you how he created a successful online course in the internet marketing niche, and how you can follow his step by step plan to do the same for the meditation niche, how to build a list of customers and market properly to that list.

The Challenge, at least when I went through it was a lot more basic. It didn't really focus on building a list, just creating a website, and getting it to Google front page and hoping someone clicks on it and buys whatever it is you're promoting.

The Challenge is free, Chris Farrell Membership is $37/month. For what you are trying to do, I recommend CFM. It is beginner focused, and has a great community of helpful members.

I've gone through The Challenge (and two previous Thirty Day Challenges), and highly recommend it. It is a really good introduction to Internet Marketing headed up by one of the IM leaders, Ed Dale.

The challenge is a year round affair and can be started almost at any time. The main advantage of doing the challenge live is the incredible amount of help that is available from experienced marketers in the forums.

The next Challenge is due to start on August 1st although last years training is still available on the site. An official announcement about this years challenge is due any time now.

Its great that you have a niche that you understand well and will therefore be able to easily product good content.
Meditation is a broad niche I imagine (I'm assuming here) so probably has plenty of scope for effective subniches which could be very easy to target.
The principles taught on the course of usable throughout a whole range of methods so it definitely is a great place to start!

The challenge is another great tutorial by a great marketer here in OZ.

Ed dale is getting older and greyer, but his info is rock solid. I have met him in person and is the real deal. Lots of great tips for newbie.

I think he was at his best when he partnered up with Frank kern some years back, but the interenet and web environment has changed since then, so that is why His course has changed too a bit. I feel he adapts well with the internet especailly since the whole web 2.0 stuff, and iphone stuff as well.

I did The Challenge Twice (in 2009 and 2010). It basically teaches how to do market research and some SEO that will drive organic visitors to your site (hence make money).

To me, it worth 100% worth the time. The only costs are hosting and domain registration fee. Everything else is free. Even the marketing tools.

I didn't make any money during The Challenge session. But, I did learn how to. In January of this year, I began taking actions on what I've learned. Now I am currently making more money than what I was getting on my part time job.

The Challenge is fabulous. I went through it in 2009. It teaches you everything you need to know to get going to make money online. The challenge crew are a great bunch of people. And best of all the entire thing is free. I might take it again because the whole atmosphere is so positive and inspiring there.

I've been through the Challenge, too, and I think it's a great place to start. What I love is that it's really and truly step-by-step; many courses that say they are for beginners really assume quite a bit of knowledge that a true beginner wouldn't have (how to register a domain name, set up hosting, etc.) The Challenge starts with a "prep week" that helps you get familiar with some of the tools so that when the meaty teaching begins, you're ready.

I like Ed Dale's teaching style and the fact that The Challenge is always staying on top of developing trends in social networking and other ways of promoting free, organic traffic. I might do it again this year, just for fun! I always learn something!

    Best,
    Kim
