Hello,
I am new to all of this. I have stupidly made the mistake of purchasing products to help me "get started" in making money online. All of the crap out there seems to be the same. Where do I start? I need help, if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it!! I'm not looking to make millions over night or even thousands, I am just looking to supplement my income, to help support my family, an automotive mechanic doesn't make much in rural Iowa. With a new baby in the house now I need to do something to make a little more money. Please anyone out there that can and is willing to help me get started I will appreciate it more then you could imagine! Thank-You to all who have responded or looked at this.

    Hi Dave,

I've only been at it for about 8 months now but have started to make some good money online. Not enough to quit my day job but enough to supplement my income (I have my first baby on the way).

I'd be more than happy to chat via email etc and give you any pointers that might help.

Hopefully someone more experienced than I can lend their services but the offers there if you need it.

The Challenge by Ed Dale is really great for helping anyone get started online. It's free. The info is top notch and it will give you a solid system for getting starting and learning all the basics. You can either look through the old videos etc. from last years Challenge or start with them for the new 2011 Challenge in August I believe. Anyways just google it.

      Hi and congratulations.

There's a lot of good advice here which may help yur direction. Don't do whar Demian V said. Buying WSOs is just the same as buying other products, only maybe cheaper.
Contrary to your self criticism, you weren't stupid buying all that stuff, most of us did the same.

You may consider getting some GOOD coaching. With trustworthy mentors, you can speed up the process, and avoid tons of mistakes.

But before you hier one - check him out!

Agree with this the Challenge is an excellent place to start. You learn everything you need to know about internet marketing and learn to start up a fully optimized site and flip it all in 30 days. I highly recommend this as a way to start.

Here is the link The Challenge

Here are some good groups that help newbies:

    Lynn Terry's ClickNewz.com

David Perdew's Niche Affiliate Marketing Systems

    Paul Evans' Nicheology

    Mark Hendricks' Internet Success System

The ClickNewz forum has free and paid levels. NAMS has a free forum, but most of the training and the accountability groups are part of the paid service. Nicheology is mostly a content resource membership site, but there is a wealth of great training material there as well. ISS has free and paid levels but lots of business training.

The thing to remember is that you are not just "making money online". You are starting a business and basic business principles apply.

      Hi Tinkerz,

      Congrats for the new baby!

I can only say that you will have to go through a learning curve. I know it is not easy as I have started my own business in the IM world and am still learning new techniques. Keep positive and if you really want to make it then take action and follow it through. There is some great advice on this forum and I suggest that you do not spend any more money on hyped up programmes most of them do not work.

      Good luck

If you need some quick cash you could try selling on ebay or fiverr, or offer any services or knowledge you have on places like freelancer.com

Internet Marketing has quite a big learning curve and there's just so much information out there it makes your brain want to explode!

I think you should start blogging about your experiences in life, your family, your knowledge, cars, being a mechanic, etc. Then you could just join other forums related to your interests and become a helpful member and share your ideas and refer to your blog there. On your blog you could have google adsense as a way to start making some cash.

starting a business in IM is hard... but like any other business though.. you have to stay focus, learn fast, have small objectives at first, and best of all: take action!
and don't waste your time too much in "over-learning" everything, like lots of people usually do at first (including myself) - this is the main common mistake, as my opinion.
    hope this helps..

Nope I have seen people take years to make money, and then again, the newest of newbie make 5k a month starting from nothiing with $0.

It all comes down to how much you are willing to learn and how much you want to succeed.

then it comes down to how much ACTION you are willing to take.

Hint that last bit is responsible to making the big money. SO its up to you and nobody else.

I must agree with the other post. It is hard to start up and you must take action. As I have learned since 2-2011 is it take a great deal of work to get up and started. But I advice you treat this like a real business instead of just making money online and you will see the difference.
Good luck in your IM journey.

      Hi Dave,
Congrats on the new baby. Sounds like you and I have alot in common both have new babies (my daughter was born 04/2010), both are new to IM and both not looking to be millionaires overnight.

I got Matt Carter's Rapid Profit Formula course back in March It was $77 then not sure if it is still. Anyway there are video tutorials along with PDF's that I found easy to follow. Using this course I have started seeing sales from my sites which is the first return from any of my online efforts.

I do have to agree with other opinions and say that maybe using your background in mechanics is a great place to start. I know too well how easy it is to get distracted from all of the techniques people want sell you but really you just have to pick something to focus and apply your efforts to. Good Luck!

If you are just getting into im, I would start with fiverr. The reason I say this is because it's easy to build up your confidence. Make a few gigs (it's free) about something you are passionate about. Maybe you could hold up a sign while your wife is in labor saying something crazy for five bucks (you would be amazed whats on fiverr). You won't make the wifey happy, but hey, you just made $5 bucks. And then you're on your way.

I think a lot of making money online has to do with your mindset. You see thousands and thousands of offers saying you'll make a million dollars in two minutes, so people get discouraged when they don't. You just have to build confidence and go from there.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forum. Best wishes to you and your new baby...

You have a niche right there: Automotive Mechanics - People have needs and problems under this niche and relevant sub niches. Sub niches can be particular brand names and models of cars...

Pinpoint those needs and problems. Determine which of those are people regularly searching for solutions online. Perhaps they're looking for a simple to follow video to fix or improve their cars on their own, or perhaps a detailed ebook guide with images that can allow them to convert their trucks into something else and so on...

Identify relevant exact match keywords they use...

List down the online social communities they frequently hang out, because they expect to find relevant answers and solutions to their needs and problems about their cars and talk to experts like you to help them out with their problems and needs...

Build your website. Develop something, a video or an ebook, which can entice them to sign up to your mailing list. Write the content of your website. The benefits offered by your onsite content shouldn't be found elsewhere, and the benefits of your ebook guide shouldn't be found elsewhere nor on your onsite pages...

Develop your digital info product, such as a more detailed video or a more detailed ebook guide that can provide solutions to their most immediate needs and most urgent solutions about relevant topics and sub topics. Mention this in your free ebook guide and in your onsite content pages...

Hang out in the online social communities where your target market frequently hangs out. Help out the members of those communities, by answering their inquiries and questions. Develop mutually beneficial professional relationships with them and possible joint venture partners...

Try to have your onsite content published by other webmasters looking for content to publish on their contextually relevant websites for their daily viewers...

Establish mutually beneficial relationships with your mailing list subscribers by providing them with useful, updated content in your newsletters and mailing list updates...

Once you're earning from your online business: Consider developing more products, onsite and mailing list newsletter/update content. Improve your free ebook guide. Study effective paid and free online advertising opportunities. Paid ones include PPC/PPM, email ad and private ad space rentals...

Monitor your results. Study campaigns which provide positive results, and get rid of those that just waste your time and resources. Improve your campaigns...

      Hi Tinkerz,

Keep your head, your sweet little newborn angel is relying on you!

A little tip that might help you is to set up a Wordpress blog to sell high ticket Amazon products. Its really easy with the right know how, and can bring in the cash fast! Which is what youy need right now.

This is exactly how I presently earn my living, even before realising that the Warrior forum existed.

So do check out Amazon, as its very instructive on how to sell as an affiliate.

And congrats on the new baby.

Well, to start with, you're in the right place if you want to learn a ton about IM!

I'd suggest joining the War Room (WELL worth the cost) and purchasing a few WSOs that interest you.

And just use the internet as a learning tool- there's so much info out there for free,
    take advantage of that.

Also, you are an auto mechanic, so why not use your expertise in that area?

Hope you have great success in your pursuit of an additional income!

    Hi Tinkerz,

Sadly we all go through a load of BS when starting out.

The two people I have found most useful are Mark Thompson and George Brown. Both deliver without the c**p!

Mark has Wordpress Goldmine as his main forum and product and is a very well regarded ethical marketer...you will find him here on WF.

George is the Google Sniper man and his way of getting small 5 page sites built and up and running quickly is excellent. So check that out too.

It can be very confusing to know who and what to listen to. I can tell you this much, most good information can be found for nothing. Being in this forum is one of the best places you can be to get some very good content for nothing, not to mention some of the top marketers here to answer any question you might have.

Being a member here and reading everything you can get your hands on here, and you can get your hands on a lot here! You will likely get your education faster in this forum. Then by paying for products that might offer you a trinket of good content but not enough to warrant the cost.

Keep reading and implement the things you learn, it is very important that you put things into action, don't look for shortcuts. Give everything you learn a very good testing. This is how you find the methods that work for you.

And lastly hang in there, you will make it.

Hi there. I am also a newbie in internet marketing. I started learning about this last April 2011 and one thing I learned is that don't waste your time reading and downloading free ebooks/guides/blueprints out there. I always find myself getting frustrated because I don't have that much knowledge in web design and all that technical stuff but it is never to late to learn or if you don't have time, you can outsource the technical stuff. Cheers to our internet marketing journey.

Hey tinkerz and welcome to the forum

First of all: DON'T buy anything that claims it will make you hundreds of dollars without work, as much as sweet this could be but it doesn't exist yet.

Second: Go get a War-Room membership, it is only $37 one-time payment and it has all the training in the world on how to go from Beginner to Advanced in no time without wasting all your money on hundreds of useless products.

Third: If you are good at writing or any kind of skill you have, you can go to Fiverr at Fiverr and offer your services there where they pay you $4 instantly to your PayPal account once you do a service so this can be a way to generate small income while you are looking for a way to reach your goals.

Fourth: Don't go trying HUNDREDS of methods at the same time, there are like 1,000,000 ways to make money online and they are ALL attractive! Pick a method which appeal to you most and STICK with it for the next 30 days WHATEVER the results are.

Don't go buy anything, don't go reading about other methods, you are just devoting all your focus and productivity to that method alone.

Good luck and congratulations for your first baby

    Hey Dave,
I just had a discussion with a couple of my blog subscribers the other day about this. The best advice I can give you is to find one thing, and I mean ONLY one thing and implement it. Doesnt matter if it's promoting Amazon Products, Product Creation, Adsense, etc. Just find an area to make money and stick to it for 90 days. Dont buy anymore WSO's during these 3 months. If it works, great, keep at it. If it doesnt, then move onto something new.

The biggest fear with new folks is that they are scared of failure. They think that if they work for 90 days on something and dont make any money then what is the point. It is ok to fail. You learn better that way. Trust me on this.

Now, if you need money fast then find something you do well and outsource yourself. This way you can get some income coming in right away. In between doing services for folks, you can continue to work on the IM project.

So jump in with 2 feet and start on something, anything and stick with it.

    Rich

My advice is to treat internet marketing as a real business, as this is what it is, write down your daily goals and work schedule, as well as your monthly targets.

All the techie stuff, I would say outsource if you can, and if you have big tasks to achieve in your business, break them down into smaller more achieveable chunks, and you will find you will get more done.

Hope you do well in your new venture

    Hey Tinkerz,
    Congratz on the new baby!

When I started doing IM, I fell for all of those 'to good to be true'-programs, lost some good money on that. Finally I found Travis Sago's Bum marketing method (this was about 4 or 5 years ago). I followed every step, setup a free site with weebly.com and started writing articles (I think I wrote 200 articles in a 3 week period) and today still, those articles are making me money, sure the terms of both weebly and ezinearticles has changed but it still works.
It is a lot of work to set up a campaign but as long as you write about something that you are passionate about, it is a h*ll of a lot easier to crank out both quantity and quality.
This is where I would start if I had to start all over.
If I had a small budget I would go for Mike Longs and Kelly Felix's program called 'Bring The Fresh' (although this requires that you have some money to spend on domains and hosting too)

Good luck adn if I can help you with anything, send a PM

There is only one way to start you need to educate yourself first. There is a learning curving to any career you decide to take on board. Stop buying or looking at every get rich scheme on the internet because it just does not exist. There is hard work and commitment needed to build a internet business.

    Hi Dave,

Congrats on the baby, and welcome to the forum.

As you can see people here are giving you the best advice they can. I'd like to put my 2 cent here, too.

Since you've already bought some IM material, no matter how crappy they can be, please try to find something that you can act upon, be it building a list, affilate marketing, or anything that is at least decently described, maybe you can find your starting point here, and if not - some education at least. Go through those courses, no matter how bitter you are about them now. Make yourself familiar with them, because they DO contain some knowledge you can use and act upon.

I would stick with what you know which is automotive mechanics. There is a huge amount demand for information about vehicles and vehicle repair and I don't think that the market is very well serviced.

Develop a blog or informational site, learn how to create information products and how to market them and take it step by step.

There is a lot of free information on WF and there is really no need to buy a WSO to learn the basics.

Dave, welcome! Just hang in there my friend, with a little
help from the forum and your determination, you'll make it.

As I tell my list, it doesn't hurt to buy a few things if you're
trying to find your niche, your path if you will, within IM.
But don't spend a lot and avoid falling into the the next shiny
object syndrome. If you're having info and email overload,
take Charles Kirkland's (#1 Clickbank affiliate) advice and
unsubscribe from everyone that hasn't offered you value in
the last 2 weeks. But once you decide on the one thing
you want to do, that one niche you want to follow, ignore
everything else and go after it with single-mindedness.
Don't be distracted by anything else.

It's always good to go into something you're familiar with
since you'll likely have more enthusiasm for it. So I would
agree with the advice here that says to possibly consider
something to do with your automotive background. Let's
say you decided to do an automotive blog, then you could
promote all sorts of automotive products from Amazon,
and some of those products you might be able to give a
first hand review of. Again, that's just one of many paths
you could follow since there's likely other affiliate programs
with auto related products out there.

Don't forget, when you're trying to educate yourself, there
are no stupid questions so don't hesitate to ask for help.

You already have an idea there right in front of you my friend.

The industry you are in is perfect.

You could start your own blog and perhaps answer questions live on how to fix my car.

It wouldn't take you long to get up-and-running and it will also be a test for you as to whether you think the internet is for you.

12-years ago I was in a similar situation (not the baby though) and I was in the construction business. I made that transition very well from working really hard in the physical sense to the internet world.

    Good luck!

You basically need to pick on thing and stick with it. Something that will scale, blogging, adsense, etc. Unless you know a lot about stuff like SEO, etc, I would stick with something that's fairly easy and repeatable. Did I say stick with it! I'm pretty sure I did.

Start a blog about automotive which you are good at. It's free. Once you build the traffics, monetize with adsense. Gradually, the money will roll in.

Also, you can read my twitter guide at http://www.facebook.com/blogandretire

Also, you probably shouldn't have posted your email here because now tons of people are going to spam you (maybe) hopefully not though.

It's always a good idea to have a subject you would like to try, be it article submission, social marketing, e.t.c before buying a product, the problem with so many newbies is that they are inundated with too much info, and are trying too many things at once

I'm new to IM also so I appreciate this thread (and others like it). One thing I've picked up is that 1) you must FOCUS and 2) just DO it! You can get into analysis paralysis. It's good to research and learn, but at some point you need to fish or cut bait

You'll have to do some serious research to figure out the area of IM that interests you. Read books, search the forums, invest in a reputable course, find a mentor, watch videos, anything really just to absorb as much as you can.

Definitely avoid the get rich quick hype. They don't work and will cause you to give up too easily. It will take work and you will have to learn how it's done from those that have had success. Good luck.
