Can I buy an email list?

Currently I have no website and no email list. Is there anywhere where I can buy a small list to get started?

Possibly 100 - 1000?

Help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

Good lists aren't sold. Build your own from stratch, it's by far the best option.

Yes you can but you'll get a garbage list . You can use the money to invest in building your own list. You can buy Solo Ads, this is the best way to start if you have money and you want to invest.

But you can buy a list , when you buy a product, and if the owner had a list, it may be probably for sale with the site and the product.

This a legit way to buy a list, but you'll buy the whole business, not just the list. And in many cases the owner doesn't sell the list.

So the best way it's to build your own list using Solo Ads if you have money.

Unless you were looking for something like a compiled list of businesses, like all the tire stores in your state, there's no point in 'buying' an email list. Email lists are more about how they were built, what caused the subscribers to join.

        Guys,
With all due respect, building a lit is a lot bigger than IM....

Big companies do it ALL the time: it's called CPA, cost per action.

If you have the money you can buy LEADS not CLICKS. For instance, you can hire a CPA company and for every lead that opts into say your offer of a free gift, they will pay you.

How is that companies can pay affiliates $1 or $5 or even more just for a name and email (uh, isn't that building a list)?

It's because they've figured out the Customer Lifetime Value per lead.

In other words, the total net worth of a customer across his/her lifetime of business with you. I wouldn't recommend buying leads until you know or have a general idea of your CLV - then you will know how much you can pay per lead. I hope that helps!

Yes you can purchase email lists. However, these are typically just massive lists of email accounts, they will definitely be shut down by your autoresponder if you choose to use them. They bounce, they have dead accounts, and since these people aren't targeted and didn't opt-in to your email list, they will mark you as a spammer.

If you really want to BUY a list, I would look into GetSubscribers... it's a program that getresponse offers to build lists - at a price. They produce active, targeted subscribers for whatever product you wish to promote (or niche) based on actually ads and marketing THEY do themselves. It's a decent way to get a list of people started, but I wouldn't rely on it for long, as it will cost a fortune to produce a large list.

    Hope this helps!

For most internet marketing purposes, the value of an email list is in the relationships between the list-compiler and the subscribers. When a list changes hands, its value is typically lost.

Couldn't agree more . even though it may seem like buying a list is quick way to get it ... They don't know and they don't trust you . there isn't that initiial connection between you and your list ...

And if you buy the list how do you know that it is a list of buyers ??

Consider running some targeted solo ads to build your list. This method may shorten the timeframe, and there is a wide array to choose from in the JV Forum. The investment for solo ads will have a far better ROI than spending anything on a list from questionable sources.

    Hey Mike,

lots of the lists that individuals sell online are a complete waste of money and time. You'll get very little results from these lists unless you can weed out the users who are not active in reading your emails.

Lots of times your CTR will be low for every email you send out, because lots times, some of these lists even have made up emails or are just extracted from somewhere on the internet.

My advice? Stay away from buying an email list, unless you know it's from a trusted source. Hope that helps man.

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like I'll have to start and build my way up, may take time, but the long term results will be worth it!

I never bought a list, and I never opened an email coming from a list. It is already spammed for sure, I would say some may actually check the email but the question does it worth it ? if most of these emails will be considered as spams and your website name is in it ? I believe it can cause more damage than help.

The only mail list that I would trust is for a website I signed up by myself.

See, I did buy a list forever ago, failed miserably. It was just a ton of emails randomly compiled with no real niche or targeting at all. Because of that my autoresponder shut me down for a month. Definitely don't just go to a website and buy an outright list. Pay other marketers to use their list until yours is built up, use GS to start a targeted list, then build on it, but definitely build it yourself, or you will run into some massive headaches.

    hey michael

you dont want to buy an email list for 2 reasons

    1. No one in there right mind would sell you a good resonsive email list anyway
unless there looking to cash out on there internet marketing buisiness

    2. If you do happen to buy a email list the chances are it will be completely un responsive and dead and it wont even be targeted

the only way to do it is to build one yourself with real methods

i know it does take time but thats the point, it takes time because its a worthwhile asset to have and own

    hope this helps

I don't see how buying a list would be beneficial. If that list is worth anything, it is because the current list owner has built a good relationship with them and is really tapped into their needs. Attentive readers will notice immediately when you take over because you really can't duplicate the other person's writing personality. Build your own list.

how about borrow a list, most of the bought lists are junk and alert spamming authorities, and can get you in trouble.

WE do solo ads, and you are just borrowing lists for a bit. We have found lots of success doing this. I am sure it will work for you too.

Yes you can. You'll be ripped off with some, but you can.

You can buy leads for really cheap and import them into your autoresponder. Of course, almost none will actually open the emails never mind buy anything.

There is also something called "guaranteed sign ups". You pay for so many people to join your list. Again, almost none will actually open the emails never mind buy anything.

Then there are ways to "rent" a list.

These are not scams. Safe lists allow you to "rent" their list and email them so often per month. Some safe lists are definitely better than others. So it pays to be careful.

Another way to rent lists is with companies who sell info for a one time transaction. This can be email or physical address or both. But since in this instance we're talking email, you can buy emails from people in whatever niche you like, so its very targeted.

Or you can basically pay for leads from many sources, like that guy who did the "death of the internet" I think it was called. He started it, and others followed. He paid I think 50 cents per sign up. He just put out that he was paying 50 cents per lead and every man and his dog was throwing leads at him. I think he collected about 50,000 or so in just a few days.

Buying lists are a great way to get your message out there. But the functionality really depends on how you plan to use the lists. Also, if these lists aren't directly opted in to your business then keeping them takes a lot of effort as far as content goes.

    Hi,

I found this thread because I too was thinking of investing in buying a list of businesses.

Equifax sells business leads. I wouldn't just buy a garbage list from anywhere. Equifax offers business lists by NAIC or SIC codes. I would need the list for a very specific industry for a specific campaign. I don't see how this would be a waste of money?

    What does everyone else think?

I agree. It's the necessary ground work but focus your efforts on building a list fast rather than wasting money on a burnt-out or useless list
