Serious suggestion for WSO people

First of all, I LOVE WSOs! They are the coolest source of marketing products on the web, bar none!

One thing I've noticed: If you buy a lot of WSOs or respond to a lot of free WSOs, you are getting on a lot of peoples' email lists, which is just great because you are most likely now on a list of someone savvy and down to earth rather than a mega-launch-scammer.

Here's the problem: In follow-up emails I quite often am not recognizing the name of the sender, so there's a good chance I'm not going to open that email -

BUT if you put the name of the WSO/Product in the subject line of the email, then I think you'll see a big increase in your open rates.

Sorry, it's just human nature to more easily remember the benefits (the WSO/Product name) instead of the name of the creator of the WSO.

Just my 2 cents, and I hope it helps you guys.

Matthew

The problem with your premise is this: You're getting email from people you didn't buy from. WSO sellers compile lists and do list swaps with other WSO sellers. I bought two WSOs in May and still get two or three offers a week from people I've never seen or heard from before. And unlike you, I don't want to be on a bunch of lists. It’s part of the game and I just unsubscribe from them.

If I end up on your list after buying someone else's WSO you can stick your emails where the sun don't shine.

Chances are I'll immediately unsubscribe and avoid ending up on your list at any stage in the future.

      Good luck though.

Yeah, I don't stay on lists after I buy a WSO. Why would I pay to have someone flood my inbox? I also think that if the WSO is really a high quality product, then I don't need any of the affiliate products they are peddling. The only lists I am a part of are ones that I sought out to join.

I'm not trying to change your mind about being on lists, that's your personal preference, but your reasoning is a bit offbase, IMO. Buying a high quality WSO on one topic doesn't preclude you won't want or need a product on a completely different topic.

For example, if you buy a WSO about list building, it's not going to teach you about traffic generation.

I remember my first go at internet marketing, I fell victim to croc ads and learned real quick to keep junk email accounts for anyone offering something (supposively) free. Even still, i'll get a random email from left field from someone I clearly did not opt-in to receive info from, and honestly when it's my main email it kinda pisses me off.

With all the new hoops set up by the CanSpam Act getting quality/ targeted opt-ins is work. Therefore, I don't hold much respect for those who 'scrape' emails off Facebook or through whois searches. I mean if they at least offer an unsubscribe link I might consider looking, otherwise right to the spam folder!

However, this did hurt alot of JV offers as swapping, selling, and sharing lists has hurt some 'honest' eMarketer who could capitalize on blasting each others lists. Again, it's an area that helps us and hurts us IM'ers dependant upon how you view it. Sadly, thanks to spammers we all get to work harder to legitimize our offers.

Well let me try to clarify - I only stay subscribed to quality people/lists. Like you, I find bombardment with affiliate offers to be rather tiresome - in fact I believe it is passe', and a clue here:

If the list member is a Warrior Forum member, sending them anything other than quality emails is worse than wasting your time, it is hurting your name/brand!!

So if you feel like you have to send out tons of affiliate offers, then segment your list and DON'T send them to WF members - WF members are not dummies and like the posts mentioned above, they won't tolerate it.

Just because this is an internet marketing forum doesn't mean that typical/pitiful "internet marketing" tactics work here.

I think you make a good point.

You buy a WSO - sold by a forum name you recognize. When your paypal payment is recorded it's to a different name. Some sellers know to add the name of the product - some don't.

Then you get emails - which may be from a company name...it can be difficult to put them together. It's detail work that more sellers should pay attention to - carry the name of your product and perhaps your own forum name through the entire process and you might reduce unsubscribes.

Another thing: ONE (and one only) good thing about getting emails about "offers" that are obviously for newbs (at best) such as Chronic Commissions (imo) is that it makes it really easy to decide to unsubscribe from that persons' list, no matter what they've sent me before, clearly they've lost perspective and gone off the deep end.

Another thing that I find is that I don't always remember the name of the wso I bought because the headline is often very different. It might be the headline that attracts me when I click, but the product itself might have a name like blueprint for xyz.

Not a bad idea, actually. It is sort of like branding yourself.

I don't mind being in someone's list, especially if I like the WSO. I welcome additional information that the WSO owner might impart. Besides it is easy to unsubscribe.

The important thing is to make the reader open your email in the first place. Just like what OP said, I rarely remember the name of the WSO creator. But I would remember more or less the name of the product I bought. That would definitely encourage me to open the email than from a name I don't recognize.
